Neizero is still right for most part. Just because you nitpicked fatigue system doesnt make his point invalid. White kings on this forum will defend SE to death and deny existence of other MMO's like nazis denied holocaust.

Not sure why you reply this to me - Don't include me in that bag, I welcome all of those changes; I love the gobbue, I love my instant airships and I'm generally happy with any and all changes they throw at us. I think SE fail at communicating and at estimating though. Different type of complaint. In my job as software developer, I know I always have to add +15% time to my estimate to allow for shit hitting the fan, I don't know if SE just don't do this, or simply things go very very wrong every time.
So white knight is now an insult? If so I'm sorry I offended you :) I was replying to someone who quoted me, hope that's ok!Quote:
this "white knight here, white knight there" it's getting old and offensive.
Uh, I'm pretty sure Elexia is correct, no one defended anything -- People whether they were a fan or not knew XIV was very much unfinished or unpolished.
Pretty sure the typical forum poster should know what an example is -- which is why she used the fatigue part specifically, because above all no one defended it, so it says a lot more about the people who consider others "white knights" than those who are being accused of being such.
goobbue etc was not aimed to you, but give a nice example how foolish can become criticism on every little subject. I don't think you where around where SE release others "gamebreaking features", like the thread meter or level icons i mentioned, but they were like goobbue now: inflammatory insult to and for everyone, hating thread like rain and again this troll vs white knight subject. This 1 moth before implementing. The day after implemented, NOBODY cried over them, probably because they understanded was nice features. Now it's not different.
Btw i'm not really insulted by white knight, while i'm generally defensive over this game i'm not so desperate to deny some right criticism. Still, since "white knight" it's used as synonimus of "blind fool", it's better not abuse it.
Only read first page so far.
I think keeping us in the dev timetable loop was a double edged sword.
It seems like a lot of games patch when they patch and do not have public announced trajectory dates unless that patch is ready to go.
My concern is with the ongoing overhaul. Will SE reach a point where they're steadily releasing content and doing small tweaks to game systems versus large system changing overhauls? (i.e. Removal of stamina, dated items and craft recipe shuffling, class ability revamp).
I'm hoping once... I'm on a tangent. Will hit post before I go way off topic.
I think at the end of the day, people are so starved for information (because there is so little to do in game), that everything gets blown out of proportions. Things should calm down a bit once FFXIV reaches a state where it's comparable to other popular MMO's.
People, people, people -- you're forgetting to take Squeenix Time into account when figuring these dates. When they say, "mid to late January," expect that to mean, "late February to mid March." Doing so means a lot less frustration and confusion; it's not that they're actively lying, it's just...well, chronically late is as chronically late does. Y'know?
Squeenix Time, people. Squeenix Time.
/em reads thread
/em's head explodes
So true. My first serious experience with the XIV community was in a topic about Fatigue, where people were just getting berated for not "appreciating" it.
At one point I mentioned my frustrations with Fatigue on Twitter and got Tweet-stalked for it, with said person passionately defending the system for months (only to eventually say, "I never REALLY supported it, despite the months-long arguments on Twitter and message boards and random anti-Fatigue bloggers I posted responses to" once Square Enix changed their tune, hah, but I digress).

Yeah, Google is your friend. You can still find all these debates on the various blogs and boards, and there was quite a passionate defense of the system.
And, for the fun of it all:

Jennestia, Posted 04 February 2011 - 05:21 PM: "Fatigue will prevent someone from reaching cap "instantly" because they didn't retune it in conjunction with escalated SP rates, so it's actually a good way to keep players in check while they push out the content, which next patch this month will be a content patch."

Jennestia, Posted 06 April 2011 - 07:55 PM: "It's not really noticeable till you hit the wall or about to."
I do so love the internet, where all your words are archived and recorded. Oh, it wasn't a gung-ho defense on Jennestia's part, I'll concede, but after claiming "no one" at all defended it, well, there's at least two partial defenses there.
inb4 excuses, just like my Twitter buddy whipped out when called on it!

I was for fatigue system for this reason:
It initially allowed casual players to progress at a rate "acceptable" to the casual MMO hordes who have overrun MMO's since WoW launched, and while it never happened I was hoping exp would be fixed to a point where people could feel a noticeable difference from being in a good leveling group and enjoy a gradual progression to cap during which they could get to know a majority of the community playing alongside them.
I wasn't aware that they were going to remove it and along with it completely trivialize the leveling experience so anyone could level a class to cap in days never having to group with the same people twice. I praised it as some sort of compromise for the two groups: people who happen to think that an MMO you play monthly fees for shouldn't be able to be completed in the first month you pay for it, and people who don't want to play the game like a job.
But exp was always broken since launch, and the fact that it is trivial now I guess doesn't matter because that horse is dead. The great MMO congress of 2007 decreed that anyone who enjoyed those types of games no longer can freely advocate for a return to any variation of time invested accomplishments (again in games where you are expected to pay monthly).
We already have project 1999 for that! This is the future where people physically can no longer put a significant amount of time into anything, even things they supposedly do for their own entertainment.
I see you're of the camp that seems to erroneously believe that timesinks are an acceptable replacement for actual challenge. The same camp that believes that spending hours grinding dhalmels, crabs, pugs, and God knows what else, is nothing short of a ritualistic rite of passage that all the worthy must endure if they wish to reap the successes of...spending hours grinding more Dhalmels to get pieces to a key, that will get you to a chest with a single fragment, seventy of which combine into an another key that opens another chest that gives you a seal that lets you open a door to a boss that takes two weeks to gather all the materials to summon him to spend two hours to kill him...
For a few crystals and chunk of +2 dhamel meat.
Oh yes, those are definitely the glory days and worth reliving.
There's a difference between putting time investment into something, and pissing your life away over digital goodies because you're too lazy to just take up a hobby that's actually productive in some way or another. Let's be honest with ourselves, here: video games are a waste of time. At least knitting, or photography, or woodworking makes real items. We spend our time chasing pixels and polygons so our bunch of polygons will be cooler than their bunch of polygons. Thinking that MMOs need to re-implement the Ye Olde Days of Yore via cockblocking anyone that can't devote 6+ hours a day (which, by the way, is a second job) into something because you, somehow, have that time to spend is nonsensical at best.
I hear that Real Life MMO has a stupidly long grind. Sounds like it's right up your alley.
You know why they aren't talking? Because they are trying to meet their Patch on-time for you guys. As time gets closer to patch day, so will the information will come.
I really love SE, really. and FFXIV (wouldn't be paying to play right now otherwise). But if in my work, I always, ALWAYS, miss my deadline like they did with patches, I will be in trouble at work.
Yes, many will defend that you can't predict the timing for these things, but that's the nature of the beast. Either they don't have a good project manager or they really not doing their job in time.
That being said, still waiting for the update, come on SE :)
That would be awesome but like many have stated it's not likely. It's far too strange to add a new mount and music in a "Hotfix" patch if the next large one was around the corner.
Logic would dictate they would unleash the new mount to make the patch seem even bulkier and content heavy. I'm not complaining that they are releasing it this way and it's a good way to please the people and keep us busy. The more time people run around on their Goobue karts the less time they have to hear us complain about patch dates.
On a patch related tangent.
FFXI did Goobue mounts first. (Though it wasn't SE)

See? What did I say? =)
Wasn't it very clear that the patch is coming this week in the beginning? oO
A patch is never late. Nor is it early. It arrives precisely when it means to.
I have never worked in any company where schedules were rigidly kept. Especially when the projected dates are given months in advanced. And from what I have seen in other companies I have delt with outside of work, its pretty much the same. Most of the time, jobs are about a week or two off, though I have seen plenty that ended up being months off.
Projected dates, as the ones that SE have given out, are merely the ideal dates and most likely don't figure in time for possible hangups. This is the way it goes pretty much everywhere.
And so... as I said... They were working.... threads like theses are really stupid sometimes.. lol
Everyone knows they are working, no one doubts that. Everyone wants to be kept in the loop and that is not happening constantly. We get large packets of information infrequently. We need a constant flow of information once available. I see the patch lands tomorrow. You don't think they had all this finalized a few days ago? you don't think they had a firm grasp on what they were including in the patch? done or not. They could have shared all of that. Instead, Patch is tomorrow and they sprung it on us. I am glad I will be able to read the patch notes tomorrow and urge SE to start feeding us regular content/status updates at least once or twice a week.
There is a major patch in less then a month(hopefully) and you can't tell me that there are not large portions of that patch set in stone and ready to go. Share
PS:Mount only available for a limited time better mean you can only get it during this period of the game, not we'll have it for a month and they take it away, and give me back my /snowball!! don't give us something and then take it away later.
ehm, they have
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...l=1#post516244
People really needs to learn to have patience. Patches will be launched WHEN they are ready. Better to have a bugfree patch 1 week later then a buginfested patch.
Plus I dont mind being in the dark sometimes, cause that just ends up suprising me way more once they do let me into the light ^^ Me personally I would go nuts if I saw something I really want and had to wait 3 weeks, instead of just being surprised 2 days before its released. :3
so the b patch is tomorow, just as predicted
the patches are all still ON TIME according to the timeline(since we got 3.5 weeks to get 1.21 out and still have it on time)
i think we are working the developers to the bone
No they have not. Where in that post did you have a confirmation that the patch is gonna be this week or the letter or anything. It's just another of those "we're working on it" but with a picture. Tempestmoon is saying what many of us are thinking while you're trying to pretend you have a telepathic connection with SE. You're obviously the one who understands them, good for you.
