So when is this game going free to play?
91 dollar for the new stuff... hoorray \o/
Damn, what a train wreck of a thread. Where to start...
First of all, please stop with the "oh, it gives +2 to some stats, so it can be used to give an advantage! This is P2W!" This is the weakest argument I have probably EVER heard! The only things in the Mogstation that you could argue might be P2W, are the jump potions and MSQ skips. And even then, it's kind of a stretch. Sure, they allow you to bypass a lot of grinding that you otherwise would have had to do (especially as a DPS job), but they both come at a disadvantage. MSQ skippers will have no idea what happened in the story, and jump potion users won't have the same sense of accomplishment that players who leveled from 1-70 have (regardless of whether they care about it or not).
Now I saw a lot of people trying to compare FFXIV to GW2. And you know what? I get it! I think GW2 is A MUCH better game than FFXIV. A lot of its aspects are far ahead. I mean, just look at the inventory system, dyeing system, open-world content, living world content, etc. And all of that FREE from monthly subscriptions! WHAT THE ****?! So I can almost understand people feeling upset about Square-Enix charging us further for additional content like this on a subscription-based game.
HOWEVER... (and here's the real important part)
It's not worth arguing about. It's pointless. And here is why:
Remember when Ixion came out? Hundreds of players on the same map, farming to get a mount. You only got 2 tokens at the time, and you needed 12. People would spend hours and hours flying around the map, keeping track of the spawn times, etc. All so that they could get the glorious... MAJESTIC... IXION MOUNT! Then Square-Enix decides to make things easier, and now you only need to kill Ixion twice to get it.
Now, let me ask you this - how often do you use the Ixion mount? Like seriously, please, think about it - how often do you use the mount you worked so hard for. And by the way, it's also the same mount HUNDREDS OF OTHER PLAYERS also worked very hard for and have. Oh wait, what's that? You use it all the time? Really?
But... wait, now there's this new Carbuncle mount. You still gonna use your Ixion that you worked so hard to get? No? WELL THERE'S MY POINT!
If you really want the new Carbuncle mount and are so butt-hurt that you have to pay actual money for it, please consider just how many other EXTREMELY COOL mounts there are in this game, and how you probably don't even use any of them even though you have them. Think of all those PvP matches you put yourself through to get some dumb horse you don't even use. Think about all those farm parties you joined for a chance to get a stupid bird... that you don't even use. Or the MGP you saved up for over a year to get a flying wolf... which YOU DON'T EVEN USE!
Oh but sure... Carbuncle is gonna be different. Carbuncle you're gonna use all the time, right? lol Gimme a break. xD
What makes it the worst patch yet? That's completely subjective in itself.
Each and every time something new is added to the Mog Station we end up seeing this board flooded with people crying foul and making it seem like the game is in dire straights. I do think things are rather quiet at the moment though I am hoping that 4.2 will breathe new life into the game. If it doesn't, then the developers will be forced to reconsider some of their stances and cease playing things safe. Which may be great for the game. As it stands, though, even though we're in a dry period I see still people logging on consistently.
I'm personally taking the time to catch up on other games. Which is something Yoshi-P suggested, I believe.
not sure why you are so salty Blue, I'd quite like the Carby mount as it cute although I'd be more interested in the gear as the game as really cut back on the in-game glamours and I'd like a new mage glamour. I don't fully get your point I like to have things to do in game and having some interesting to aim for is a nice focus. I've got lots mounts I really use but it's nice to have them to mix things up also I'd probably have used Carby a lot as it looks really cute.
why these mogstation mount cost so much and they look better than the in-game mount. ugh.
Uh, 3.1 wants to have a word with you about that. And slashing the glamour items? We literally just had a Christmas mount. You're assuming the Carbuncle mount was going to be free originally but SE decided to abruptly charge money. That isn't the case. It was always designed with the cash shop in mind. They wouldn't have made at all if they weren't going to make a profit. Regardless, a mount has absolutely nothing to do with a weak patch.
This is an opinion. You think it’s “the worst patch the game has ever seen”; others would probably argue that 3.1 was the worst. Subjective; opinion, not fact. 4.1 is weak, yes, but whether or not it’s “the worst patch” is a subjective matter.
That being said, if you are so disgusted by the Carbuncle Mounts, no one is forcing you to buy them, and it won’t make or break your game to own them or not own them. It’s not at all surprising that they were made for sale outside of the game—if it hadn’t been the cash shop, it would have been tied to external merchandise/apparel.
And to whoever said the outfits are P2W because they have stats on them: yes, those outfits are really going to help me win in this game’s hardest content ever: Sastasha. Because anyone wearing that gear above level 15 are doing nothing but gimping themselves, so they won’t be “winning” anything.
Thanks SE for giving us those really beautiful mounts. Me and everyone in my linkshells loves them :D
And to all those complainers: Stop whining :P
Like how the mount looks, but it looks silly on races that are taller then Lalafell.
In a way, I kind of am salty, but for more complicated reasons. I'm definitely not salty about the new Carbuncle mount, but I wish people would stop complaining about it. My point is that it's pointless. People complain about having to pay for the mount, when the reality is that, were they to get it:
1. They most likely won't use it as much as they think. With some probably even forgetting that they got it after a single week. I've seen this happen with people who farmed the PvP horse and the Phoenix mount.
2. A lot of people are going to have it. Even if you ARE planning to use it all the time, wouldn't it feel kinda lame being in the same mount as everyone else? Wouldn't you rather be original? This is why I used Ixion as an example earlier.
3. This game doesn't have any worthwhile open-world content, and you can't use mounts in cities. Ask yourself if it's really worth getting a mount you will probably only ever use inside housing maps. lol
As for the main reason I'm salty, read my earlier post when I compared this game to GW2. I'm salty because we could be getting a lot more, but we don't.
Carby mounts and outfit are cute and all but that emote is not worth $7 :V
O rly?
They are a paying customer, just like you and me. If they do not like something that the developers are doing, they have the same exact rights to give feedback. Their feedback is just as valuable as yours or mine.
My feedback? Meh, I expected the mounts and outfits to be MogStation or attached to merchandise. They aren’t worth the asking price to me so I will wait for a sale and get them then. I will buy the emote though. I think $5 is a good price for an emote, but I really like this one so I’ll pay $7 for it.
To everyone, if you like a decision or not, you have the same rights to give feedback as everyone else. Don’t let the pro or con camp bully you into silence.
Not going to lie,
As someone who has subbed consistently since 2.0, so many items in the cash shop in a game with a monthly fee is REALLY starting to get annoying. ESPECIALLY recolors of the same items. The game is dead atm and it seems like a slap in the face to release these things via the Mogstation.
Cash shop is helping the game.
Me, I am just waiting for an Infrit mount
After thinking about it a bit, I've come to a realization that the main reason people are upset might be because this is being locked behind the Mogstation, with no way to get it aside from paying real money for it. AND that this would be fine were this not a subscription-based game. We pay 12-15 bucks every month and still they ask us for more money.
And then it hit me - what if they made it so that every 3 months you are subscribed to the game, you are rewarded with a couple of points which you can use to obtain items inside the Mogstation? So the Carbuncle mount for example could be obtained after being subscribed for 6 months. I think this would definitely go a long way to calm people who are unhappy with this system.
Alot of F2P mmorpg already do this, you earn cash shop points every week/month, but I dont think SE will do this. They know that people are willing to buy it, so why give the players the option to get the item for free? Its the same with retainers, before Stormblood when people were in need for more inventory, SE could have given us a free retainer, but they knew that people wanted more inventory space and are willing to rent the retainers.
I mean think about this, SE knew that there was a need and they had the solution, but instead they have decided to monetize on the needs of the players.
As for me, I wont be buying it right now, maybe when there is a sale, but I do have to agree with some of the players that both the Carbuncle outfit and mount could have been part of some content. Maybe something like relics, takes a long time to finish, but the reward is worth it?
Its way too much as it is. I was expecting some kind of bundle with the outfit and mount. Wouldn't have bought it anyway, but I think were going down the wrong direction with this.
And our subs doesn't? Why are we paying a subs if there's a cash shop? Yeah its optional, but its still gay to have those ridiculous price when it should be half of that, cause no ITEMS should be over 12.99$ which is the lowest sub price, a stupid mount isn't worth more than 1 month of this game.,
But hey, i guess im not one those cash whales that the industries love so much huh?
Lol why would anyone expect a popular item like a carby mount be handed out for free when they have an cash shop? Especially after we just got an event mount ingame. Sure people can be salty that is cool, but I hope people did not expect such an item to be obtainable outside the cash shop. Also an item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, being as the mounts are $25 and they have not changed their pricing model must mean the amount of items they are selling are in line with SE expectations. If they were under performing they properly would have lower the price. What people should be saying is that the item is not worth it to them that is more reasonable.
I don't care.
Holla at ya boy.
got a mount cause Im powerless to carbies orz
The cash shop is here to stay people, like it or not. I, and clearly many others, have and continue to purchase content from it.
Oh, thought I'd have to run to the market again when I just came back but there's plenty of salt here!
So it being locked behind, say, a level of content such as Ultimate is okay even though a handful of people might get it? Also, who's starved? PF is full of peeps on Chaos.
I actually use PayPal One Touch so I didn't have to put my credit card info in~
I think it actually looks the best on larger races, it's so cute.
They actually did give us some “unique mounts” in-game: Magitek Predator, the Rival Wings mount, the Christmas Bear... the first may be a reskin of a mob/mob-turned-mount, but the Christmas Bear is actually a brand new model—it is not the same as the WAR tank mounts.
I can agree that the emote is not worth $7. There are certainly some items on there that are overpriced—I can agree with that. But what I do is either decide if my want is worth the cost, or just wait until a sale rolls around.Quote:
Also that much money for such a short emote...I just cant..
The only emotes I can argue are worth the price are the Eastern Dance and the Play Dead emote—the former because it’s so elaborate and is persistent, and the latter because it is different across each race (and gender).
Not P2W, since the mount is not giving the player any advantage, but it would be pay to progress (goal to obtain the mount), now if instead of the mount it was a item for crafting. An example, the item is sold via Mog Station or via long ingame grind and this item is needed to craft epic weapon, then it would be P2W.
Pay to progress is on itself is not that bad, but only if the option to get the item ingame is not locked behind a horrible grindfest. The thing is companies tend to make the grind so bad, that players are incentivized (forced) to take the easy way and pay with their wallet.
One mount should've been in the game while the other is in the mogstation. Could've been a new reward from airship ventures and tradeable to make them useful again. I don't really care about those mounts and I'm not gonna buy them but SE adding all these things straight to the MS while there's currently barely anything to do ingame leaves a bad taste in my mouth, should've waited until 4.2 before releasing this stuff imho.
ehh bear animation is the same between the war and the event one, so can be argued a bit there, but it does come with a special, so meh..adding to this point, even the reskin was a new mount at one point, the bird, while reskinned, was a new modeled mount when the first came out, same for a dog, a horse, etc.a broom, a rocket motor thingy..a dragon...
We have gotten dozens of unique mounts, they even gave us a recolor of a mount they put on the mogstation, so it felt like we had the option of choosing (bennu vs Zu) the amount of mounts on the mogstation are actually suprisingly low, i figured theyd have went way out of hand at this point, but meh.
ithat being said....my only gripe is the reskin for the same price...i bought the carbuncle, so heh, guess im part of the problem...but i wanted them both..however..im not going to pay 24$ more for what is essentially a dye. So im a bit bummed, a mount that is far to expensive as it is, even if i bought it..feels kind of cheap imo
I feel like the legendary weapons in Guild Wars 2 are like that. I have never seen anything so grindy in any of the MMOs I've played. That's why I was surprised when I saw how relatively easy it was to get my Anima done. But again, I wouldn't consider it as P2W either. As someone said in an earlier post, for something to be P2W, a competitive element had to exist. And there is no competitive element in this game.
