That might be pushing it. ...but yeah, Balmung thread is yawn.

Not liking an answer doesn't make it not an answer. SE said that servers would be closed/re-opened based on population. They do not need to give constant (or any) updates. When the population decreases enough for the server to be open.. it will be opened. Them saying every month "not there yet" "not there yet" "not there yet" would be a pointless waste of time.
The last census shows Balmung having only 1,000 active players more than Leviathan

Probably due to content drought so I would refrain from being too hopeful about it.

Except for the part that if his FC is older, they didn't pay the current price for their FC house. You've been around long enough, so I'm surprised you've forgotten. Here's a reminder.

500% is LOWBALLING what an old FC paid for theirs on release.

Not sure what census that is because the latest census from 12-1-17 said that Balmung had at least 3.5k more than Louisoix which was 2nd.

What I linked was the December Census. You may have been looking at the November census, I doubt they'd actually have it out and done on the first of the month.
Yup just checked, Balmung was approx. 21k and Leviathan was approx. 17.6k

As a side note, I really do not think it a wise choice to unlock Balmung the moment it's more inline with other server populations, seeing as we do have people who did leave that want to come back. We don't know how many and we could end up with the same exact problem the moment they open it up again. It'd probably be better that they unlock it and just not say anything, that way we won't end up with an anticipated floodgate situation. They should also hold off till afer the release of 4.2, because there will be a mass influx of players on patch day, which is (usually) the norm.
I haven't forgotten about the original house prices. You suggested selling a house for 500% markup. I mentioned that's a no-no in SE's eyes and can be reported. Doesn't matter what housing originally released for if it's not what the particular seller bought it for.
Until NA stops having servers with under 5k active, I don't think we'll even see a new server pop up either. What makes things tougher with the census is that its numbers are still only based on what they deem "active" players. Ones that show some sort of progression. A lv15 alt used just for RP probably won't make it on their list more than once. Especially if said character is only used casually and doesn't need MSQ completion or glamours, etc.
While we'll probably never get the numbers, I'd love to see SE release a chart with active connections in a 24-hour breakdown for each server. My guess is Balmung is still staying over that over 10k too-many-actives lockdown all of the time.
It will continue to decline and eventually open up in another month or two. The concerning part? Consider the following. It may only be open for one day or one maintenance cycle due to the amount of people paying to transfer back in who had left for greener pastures and got disappointed. Many such situations have unfolded.
They could do any number of things, including limiting it to only new charas instead of transfers, or, foreseeing such an inevitability, keep it locked until it goes down even more to preemptively prepare for the influx of transfers
Since you seem so adamant that SE do something the most likely outcome would be that they force the server to split and assign half the population to a different one or even a newly created one and if they're nice about it they will keep FCs together. None of your personal reasons for wanting to be on Balmung change the fact that it will cause instability across the entire datacenter if players are allowed to join, especially since it has in the past. The only time I have seen server merging was back in Everquest and that was for the opposite problem, underpopulated servers and the need to save money.
Instanced housing would make moving servers seamless. Heck a megaserver for each region would also solve issues of friends being spread out. Could even keep the housing districts, just make more of them named after the server they are on.
If they had the server infrastructure to do any of this they would have by now. The problem is that they clearly can't afford to upgrade the capacity of each server or datacenter despite the move to California.
Ugh, I hate megaservers.
dumb question: Balmung is still locked form transfers right ? As in no one can transfer in?
The only reason that could be behind that is an outdated idea that one server's population is better or worse than another and they do not wish to mix them. Having played dozens of servers across dozens of MMOs, I can't attest that is a false assumption. People are the same on one server as another. The position of a server in a list or its name, or in many cases its type, doesn't affect the sort of player that decides to play there.
History has kinda proved that desegregation among homogeneous populations is a good thing.
So I'm mostly in this thread to express my disbelief about people saying RPers are the "minority." I mean they're not over 50% of the population(what demographic is) but they're by no means a small group.
I run into them all the time, sometimes even in old leveling zones. They're by no means some small niche group that you'd have to hunt for to even realize they exist.
Try playing on another server. Balmung was selected by the early RP community to be the unofficial RP server. On my server (which I believe is the 2nd most populated) I can county maybe 2 RPers I've seen in 3 years. The RP playstyle is definitely in the minority in every MMORPG. I used to RP myself in these games, only stopped about 6 years ago. I can pick out a RPer pretty easily.
I only made it to page 6 before I got tired of this guys whining and refusal to understand what's going on.
Hey now, please don't drag us into your balmung problems we aren't even on the same data center! But yeah we are the most populated server on Primal atm. There are times that characters can't be made on Leviathan too. The difference is that we don't make 20 threads a month whining about it.
No one can ever say a world isn't overcrowded during a between-patch lull in activity.
Remember Raubahn EX? Yeah well that sort of thing happens when new patches come out. Times like that is why population caps are important.. Between the odd and even patch is literally the worst time to judge server population.. Because the raiding community finished raiding months ago, and the only content in the game is catch-up stuff that aims to keep people semi-occupied is casual stuff that is irrelevant to a lot of people..
This particular lull is even worse than it has been in previous odd to even patches because normally people have a relic weapon to grind. This time round, all people have to do is a bit of PvP really..
I dont really care I want something done. I understand that their can be improvements but most people here clearly dont they defend SE like their lives depend on it.
They don't really care either - and neither do we.
You're locked out. Tough tatas.
Should have been on Balmung earlier. Have your friends make an alt to play with you.
If they're not interested in doing that even for an hour a day, I got news for you.
And it's sadder than Balmung being locked.
Leviathan not being on the same datacenter isn't really going to matter, if the server starts getting closer to Balmung levels of population. At that point, I can see SE locking it down as well.
The difference is that Leviathan still has times where characters can be made. I'm sure you'll start seeing similar whine threads once Leviathan ends up in full lockdown.Quote:

Because I want to see improvements on a game I enjoy? Knowing full well the company can do that and i'm stomping my feet? The more and more I read the more the more I realize just how silly some people are on these forums and they arent worth defending yet every single post on the forms that ask SE something that isn't generally accepted or wanted leads to the white knights of the forums. Please dont give me that bs if you are going to provide nothing useful in terms of the actual question I ask you leave and everyone else leave respectfully.
You're not asking for improvements to the game though. You're asking for them to upgrade ONE server out of tens because YOU cannot get in. You are asking for something that benefits ONE group. Yes, it's a large group. Yes it's been a "problem" for a long time, however the solution has already been implemented. You like your community? Cool, stay there. Every other server has room though and the people who control the money have no reason to drop money and invest it in one server when they can continue to pull in NEW users who pay money on other servers and not destabilize the datacenter.
That bold part right there is the problem. It's why we can't have an actual discussion. You won't believe any answer we give you because it's not the one you're looking for. You want something done and by something you want Balmung unlocked. That is the ONLY solution you will take and everyone else can suffer the consequences as long as you personally are satisfied. Everything else is just blindly defending SE to you.
We are not yet living in a world where servers have infinite data capacity so what is your suggestion for improvement? A bigger server will still have a cap and it will still be reached. Merging smaller servers...okay that's not going to give Balmung more space. It's only going to peeve off a bunch of people when suddenly they forcibly lose their homes. If your friends don't want to lose theirs, why should we lose ours? Do you have any actual suggestions that don't negatively impact people not on Balmung that go beyond just adding more space?
I am more than willing to listen to any actual suggestion for server improvement, especially if it helps with connection issues. I am not, however, willing to listen to ideas that benefit Balmung at the expense of servers like Goblin, Mateus, or Coeurl. Balmung isn't more special than any of those servers, just more destructive. Even Greg didn't take down the whole datacenter when it crashed...only Balmung holds that honor. If that doesn't tell you how badly it needed a population downsizing I'm not sure what I can say to you that isn't going to bounce off your armor of denial.
Again I read and I just facepalm. If Balmung is an issue which crashes Aether which granted has no actual proof of doing that but is assumed improving it i.e upgrading it will make it more stable capable of holding more people and not "crashing aether" Thats literally an improvement for Aether. This solution isn't a solution at all it's not going to fix anything MORE needs to be done which is what people want. If you can't get into a server to play with friends and again its not just one person theirs tons others who have friends who are on Balmung. Forcing them to leave a server for one-two friends when they have 20+ isn't logically you people refuse to see that, as someone from another balmung post stated along the lines of"SE is right because they say so so theyre right" you blindly follow along what they say without any sort of thought.
I've attempt to have a discussion I realize Balmung is full everyone does many have listed different ways on how to fix it what could work what not yet you list said reason and what do you get? These kinda replies. We want improvements not just Balmung but for every locked server. No person should be locked away from their friends period. No person should be forced to leave a server.
