This. For glamour purposes this is absolutely how it should be. Keep artifacts locked, but anything that is not artifact, open it up. I definitely want to glamour some DoH/DoL for combat myself.

It would totally be a cash grab given that dyeable versions of locked DoH/DoL gear already exist in the game for all character models and the only work they put into the cash shop versions was to strip out a lock they themselves spent time adding in the first place.
Given that we're meant to be the exact same person at all times using multiple jobs, it doesn't even make sense to have the AF locked. Estinien recognises us as a DRG when we do a quest as a BLM. Nobody who hasn't earned it should be able to equip WHM AF, but at the same time if they have earned it then stopping to pick some grass as BTN doesn't make your character any less of a career WHM than if you're standing around in Limsa dancing dressed in your AF boots and a bikini top. There's no lore reason to lock AF, only a minor aesthetic preference.
Unlocking stuff gives players so much more freedom to make their characters distinctive. I hate locks.
I remember Yoshida said that he don't want Tanks wearing cooking outfits and such(or was it robes?), because it does not fit "the role".
However, there's already one million "Bikini Warriors" and such running around, guess he's fine with that, aka pretty much naked aura/miqote/whatever is suited for a Tank role ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'd like to echo the requests for a 'glamor log' type system where looks are saved without having to keep the items around.
Also the ability to dye multiple parts of gear.
And the ability to glamor on a per job basis, and not have all jobs sharing glamor even if they're sharing the same equipment.
I like my bard af50 hat...
I'd use it on more jobs if I could.
An armored caster isn't even impossible to do currently (image below), so "job identity" is already out the window on both ends of the spectrum. Might as well branch it out, i say.

If they insist that they can't do a glamour log, here's what I'd propose instead:
1: Have more achievements activate tabs in the calamity salvager. For example, earning the achievement "Sin of the Son III" would allow you to purchase replica midan items for a couple thousand gil each, with gimped stats so they don't actually have any combat use. On top of this, add additional achievements for killing a primal x amount of times or talking to Johanes wearing a complete tomestone set. This would effectively make all "blue" gear easily re-accessible.
2: Adjust the armoire so it can hold all the level 1 "made for glamour" crafted (cashmere poncho, sailor's set, etc), event and cash shop items.
This isn't an elegant solution and doesn't solve everything, but this mostly came about as me trying to think in terms of dev resources and trying to come up with a patchwork kind of solution in the moment.
All I want is for jobs of the same role to be able to have different looks without sacrificing stats. That's the biggest problem with the current system.
I hope they remove glamour restrictions on the class specific crafting gear. Can't imagine it causing the same "issues" as the combat AF.
Of course they could make it even better and change it so any crafting class can equip the class specific gear (also resulting in no glamour restriction for the class specific crafting gear) . All of the crafting classes use the same stats. I think it would be nice to give the player the option to pick and choose which yellow scrip gear they could wear, instead of gear being locked to a specific class (i.e. choose your own set from the eight sets).
Knowing SE, they'll introduce a new type of stone that needs to be crafted or grinded to acquire, that removes the job restrictions on a single piece of gear of your choosing. ($1 each on mog station, $7.50 for a pack of 10 /sarcasm)
I wonder if they're some sort of "glamour catalog" if it will be introduced in that fancy new app they are working on. Haven't heard anything details about that either.
SWTOR and LoTR has the best outfit system. GW2 has the best storage system for glamour items.
I honestly don't expect much. It's a massive project to do an outfit system properly and I'm not sure the team for FFXIV has the manpower or backing.
The sad part is, if the developers were able to spend the time to create a good outfit system, they could monetize it easily by creating and selling more outfits on the mog station. They could even allow people to buy outfits on the mog station and sell them on the auction house to other players who have more gil than real life money.
The mere fact that the developers still refuse to allow every outfit on their cash shop to be dyed and usable by both male and female characters gives me little hope for a decent outfit system.
- Collapse glamour prisms: It was a good thing the grades on them being removed, now it is time to get rid of the bind with a specific DoH job. Just have "Glamour prism". All DoH can make one.
- Armor can be glamoured with anything: if the "glamour" is magic that makes your piece of armor looking as another, then there is no reason for locking. If my war can wear a shirt, why not a robe?
- Glamour log: (as everyone else already said everyhere...) if you get a piece, you unlock its appearance. Simple as that. Inventory problems gone and done.
compact all prisms into one type.
I am all up for an open glam system. The current job restrictions makes for some very limited choices that make no sense when you consider giant yellow Chocobo helms, mascot pig outfits and Bikini's are allowed to be glamoured for any job.
It was mentioned a few pages back, but I would like to see a ‘fitting room’ akin to the crystal bell where we modify our appearance. The room would have every piece of gear available, even those locked from the current class/job/(race-culture/gender?). You would only be able to apply glamors that met the rules, but you could still save gear combinations you really liked. I feel like this option, in tandem with a section on the lodestone for a gearset/glamorset gallery for voting on favorites, could go a ways toward communicating to the designers what sort of gear we players are interested in.
What part about the cash shop items being un-sellable and un-tradable didn't you get? It's still considered RMT and yes they still care about it, otherwise the gear would be tradable and sellable already.
Also seems you forgot the part about the outrageous prices on the MB for stuff like that. It just wouldn't work...Just stop before you get in over your head anymore.
GW2 Glamour system will always be the best in my opinion. It is organized, Account Bound so all characters old and new can use the stuff, and easy to use.
Sarcasm or not, I will use Mega Holy on you.
At this point in the XIV's lifetime, I think it's just ridiculous we can't glamour whatever the hell we want. I've been thinking that maybe some art director or whatever that handles this kind of stuff at SE is like, "Oh no, I don't want people to glamour any kind of armor other than 'x' armor-type for their class! Not in my art! How absurd! No fun allowed here!"
It's going down something like that in my head. And I was thinking about keeping the artifact armors to their respective jobs, buuut I'm starting to think of things I can do with some pieces from those job armors. There is so many things I want to use. ;;
I just want a glamour log so my glamour activities don't have to include deleting glamours for inventory space. Everything else would be icing on the cake.
I'm curious. Have they ever commented on the bikini tanks, when it comes to their various glamour-related excuses, or do bikini tanks get a free pass?
ilevel 1
need the specific DoH class at level 70 to be able to glamour that gear on other jobs
Mog Shop
I think they only have to change the class/job restriction from "only gears that the current job can wear" to "only gears that the character can already wear"
This will give the players a good motivation to level up multiple classes/jobs again, after the class-cross skills got removed.
Lorewise the bikini is an illusion. It look like a bikini, but it isn't.
I haven't played in years, but when I did you could easily farm those in game. Did they take out the ability to earn them in game?
The glamour restrictions are silly and counterproductive in many ways including financially.
End game is pretty stale with the current restrictions. You can spot what people are wearing a mile away and it's sad. A lot of creativity and player enjoyment is lost because a developer wants to retain a sense of lore that no longer exists considering the bikini clad chocobo head wearing players that run around.
Hell, even the developers bull headed restriction on dying gear in the cash shop is losing them revenue. Why does their vision of how we should look matter more than players enjoyment and the additional revenue they would generate if they stopped being so bull headed?
As a side note, I quit SWTOR a few months after release. I couldn't take my characters all looking like clowns or end game like everyone else. Back then they had no outfit system so what every you found you looked like. I came back when they introduced the cash shop and probably spent a good 100 dollars every month buying outfits for a while. I don't spend money on outfits, but I still subscribe to this day without actually playing. I log on with every new pack and buy up all the new outfits for in game money. I've been doing this for 2 or more years mainly to collect outfits but rarely to leave my "house".
Opening up the outfit system and allowing all gear in the cash shop to be dyed would easily keep players like me around for years to basically do nothing but play dress up and occasionally do holiday content.
You get piles of transmog for free if you pvp win or lose fights since you progress with rewards no matter the out come of the PvP match. Don't need to spend a single cent on GW2 cash shop items since everything can be obtained for free in this game even cash shop items since the game allows players to obtain cash items by converting ingame gold to Gems.
