Hot damn, Monk is epic to me at least. War is pretty swanky as well but the MNK one tops it IMHO.

Not quite, that particular move is present in more than one martial art. But yes, Capoeira (which is actually a martial art that began with african slaves) uses a large amount of moves like that, often uses the handstand and in fact even has a flip kick like the inital hit (called 'Martelo' or 'Hammer' in english, although you keep a foot on the ground) and actually the second kick he does is ALSO probably a capoeira move.
Edit: Orraite- Not an actual practitioner but I am Brazilian. And personally had been on the recieving end of a move at least once. It hurts

They look really col to me. I'm glad there will be more completely different moves. I'm tired of just swinging my weapon and seeing some light flashs.

Too bad it will likely have a 60 or 80 second cooldown like all the other decent weapon skills =( Serving left and right just became serving occasionally.
Monk WS Looks cooler, but i imagine the warrior one will still be better since the next 2 endgame features are dungeons which will mean we will likely be aoe'ing mobs. We won't be able to run through them like we do in darkhold... Hell, we wont be able to even do darkhold speed runs (which means half the loot from bat will become unobtainable). No more moving while casting = no more healing while kiting for the tanks. And no more self-healing tanks in moogle or darkhold.

the spinning around was pretty cool, but there wasnt anything else flashy about it, just a few split second slashes.... who cares?
i suspect you dont have many problems with the way most of the zones and current animations look too. so sad.
then again i dont think there are a whole lot of fashionistas or die hard art fans on these forums either, so anything SE throws out is accepted as awe inspiring.
Name one move that better in this game.
The characters were barely leaving the ground in 3 attacks (archer, pug and lancer) and this move with the jumps, the spins and the breakdabce at the end is not good enough?

I kind of like the way the MNK WS looks but there is no way they're going to be able to eliminate animation lock and not make that look ridiculous while moving. I think this is a major problem for the game going forward. It wasn't an issue in FFXI because in that game there was much less emphasis on positioning (Eruption, Radiant Plume) but FFXIV is different and while I'm glad they've explored new (for SE) design space, it just isn't compatible with animation locks.
The WAR WS was kind of boring, I think. The axe doesn't make a beefy impact but rather seems to only make a strong gust of wind or something. I really liked the animation for Brutal Swing (pre 1.20) where you pretty much Hulk Smashed the ground to dust. That's the kind of power and oomph I expect from an axe WS.

some of the weapon skills introduced at 1.19 blew both of these weapon skills away but were taken out at 1.20 so i know exactly what im talking about. the old lancer ability where he got all fancy and jumped in the air was pretty amazing, neither of these compare to that.
and you want comparisons? try playing another MMO. the graphics may not be as high as FFXIV but the animations themselves in other MMOs are just as flashy if not more. plus there are other games that will be coming out this year that also have flashier and fancier battle animations. FFXI also has fancier and flashier animations.

thats my biggest problem with WARs animation. it looks weightless and not very "slam/smash/bang" which is exactly what i think of when i think of the words MRD/WAR and the way the class itself looks in its armour.
as for MNK, perhaps im biased but i dont think capoira is a very pretty to look at martial art. this WS looks like a cheesy and non flashy fusion of a chinese art and capoire, just not my taste.

Though I do agree with the person that said the axe did not feel heavy enough. When I think of someone flinging an axe high up in the air, I think of someone using the momentum of the axe after a strong delayed slash. Maybe cause a bit of delay in the movements and make him end it with holding the axe on one hand towards the back and not being as high, or at least not as easy as he made it seem to be.
For Monk, I thought it looked sick. Only potential problem I see is the animation lock, but considering the combo bonus renders the target to be unable to use weapon skills after using pounce which stuns, I'd say in PvP it won't be affected much and in PvE the side affect is pretty deadly.
Edit: Looking at it again, the warrior is using both hands which would make it easier. Maybe the amount of spins and/or the speed of the spins would fix the fact that it seems like a very light axe.
I really don't get how a statement of opinions turn into this big war every time around here. People can't seem to agree to disagree.
Either way, I felt like the Monk's Weapon-Skill animation was pretty awesome. Being as though the Monk is supposed to be a master of martial arts, I pretty much expect to see flashy moves like this as well as even better moves. When I think monk, I think radical movements because, simply put, they're using their bodies as weapons. It needs to look good, otherwise it'd be kind of boring like PUG's "Pummel".
Also, the Warrior's weapon skill seemed kind of normal to me, nothing really to phone home about, but it still looks good. Being as though the Warrior is based around "Brawn" rather than "Speed, Strength, and Agility" like the Monk, I don't expect him to be doing any crazy flips or anything, so that spin jump works just fine.
These are really good, Devs, can't wait to see more!
Edit: For the record, there is no Capoeira in that Monk's Weapon-Skill. I've seen that method of getting up from the ground in a number of games. One such example being Chun-Li's Level 3 Hyper Combo from Marvel vs Capcom 3. im not blind, i stated my opinion of the flashy ness of the WSs being less than what i was expecting and they decided to tell me i was wrong, i then used the WS they gave and then removed from LNC as my example of flashy which by all means was more flashy, and was still told i was wrong. i can be catty too.Quote:

i by no means have to like or approve of these WSs. i already stated i think the MNK one was pretty cool but lacked sparkles. the WAR one is just not impressive and pales in comparison to the LNC ability im talking about.
and as far as pushing my opinions as fact, again, i can be just as catty as that bitch trying to tell me i need to like both these animations completely for what they are, which i dont have to.
second of all, anything less than the aesthetics of FFXIs skill animations is sub par, how can any of you deny that? its mind boggling.
this is untrue as i had a fondness of a one or two WS animations introduced in 1.19.
im not negative for the sake of it, im negative because i dont practice a filter when i feel i dont need to. i genuinely am not blown away by either of these while a handful of people are pretty much going "OH MY GOD /JAW DROP OMFG I CANT BELIEVE IT /SIEZURE" and i just think really? how are you gonna handle the even cooler more elaborate effects that will be added in the games future if you can barely keep your panties dry as it is?
Animation lock is nothing new, they are always there in other games. My suggestion is to learn the proper time to execute them, which is nothing new IMO. It shouldn't be a problem at all in the new graphic engine the dev team is so confident in.
About this silly argument about which WS has more "sparkles" ...... You're entitle of your own opinions and I respect that. I'm entitle of my own and I think they're both "fabulous" Do we have an understanding? I sure hope you do understand.. (this is addressed to Dreadnought)
Every one of these animation could just be your war simulating playing ball-in-a-cup or doing the macerena, and they would still be better then the ones we have now.
