Excuse me? Elezen are a form of elves. And people play elves for their unique features which are first and foremost ELVEN EARS...and in this game, also the tall slender bodies.
So saying that odd body proportions is what makes an elezen is IMO an insult to this race.

You really need to sit the f' down and process to full understanding a very, very simple fact here.

Their body proportions aren't odd. They are Elezen proportions.

If you don't like it, Fanta to another race. You have no place to ruin the race for the overwhelming majority who play it just to serve your own selfish ideals.

I bounce between races but female elezen is always my go to. Only thing that irritates me(same could be said for every race except Au Ra) is that the older hairstyles are so BLEH compared to the new ones. Some of them color so damn bad it drives me nuts if I like a older hairstyle but it turns out it doesn't dye right. If I could change one thing about female elezen, it would be the way the eye makeup looks. it just looks off to me /shrug

Show me some good catgirls and au ra girls that don't look the same. 90% of them are the same. It's part of why I don't want to be the same as everyone else but if you play that and it's your thing, you may do so by all means. I just don't find any of them unique.

Just because you lack the eye to actually discern detail, or rather hold the bias to not see what would be obvious, does not mean it isn't there. The same old wishy-washy claim of "they all look the same" is the most base form of bashing, something you were so tired of coming from others. Just between Au Ra and Miqote there is a distinct difference between body shape and posture. Between their own kind there's a variety of options to differentiate them. Certainly more varied than the other races.

This is really the root of the problem, and the reason a lot of people are gonna disagree with your thread. "Elves" don't exist in this game. The Elezen obviously share some similar characteristics that we associate with traditional elves, but they are not, and have never been intended to occupy that particular niche. They are Elezen, and that includes the exaggerated necks, the spindly arms and yes, the head:body ratio that they currently have.

What you and several other people are doing is you're trying to mold a unique race into a preconceived picture of what you think they look should like, but its no less wrong than if I was to argue that Roegadyn should be bright green and have fangs like Orcs just because they both happen to be large.

No, I'm pretty sure I see the same characters everywhere in terms of cats and au ra. They may not be 100% the same but they do look almost like a carbon copy. I don't lack the eye as I see them everywhere. Oh and don't even get me started on them in the same glam. They are almost indistinguishable except hair colour.

I just want more than two faces. That's all. The proportions are fine and I can fix most of what I dislike about the pinheads the women have, yet I hate the current lack of customization we have compared to the other races. Look at this, it's literally two faces but two have make up and the other two don't. That's lazy. I really just want them to make the makeup a facial feature you can toggle and give us two more DISTINCT faces.

I really don't think you have room to say that when Elezen only have two faces to pick from (as shown in the post above). So while there are less Elezen females running around, they are far more likely to look like clones of each other because you essentially have less choices in faces.

Au Ra, on the other hand, have a different problem: we have 4, very different facial structures to pick from that all look great. However you can't change the horns that come with each face. And the horns are a very prominent part of the character's design. And so when creating one, you basically have to decide: pick your favorite horns? Or pick your favorite face? (Unless you were lucky and got the exact combo you wanted from the get-go). Because the horns are more noticeable, it's a big red-flag as to which face was used in the design process, regardless of what other details you put on your Au Ra. Look at the "show your Au Ra" thread: there are dozens of unique Au Ra girls using the same faces. But if you were to see them all run around in the game world? You'd just see the horns, then just assume they're the same as the other players who picked those same horns.

This is why rather than bashing each other's preferred races, we should be working together for more character customization in general. I actually really like female Elezen's proportions, and what Highlander ladies and Fem Roes I have seen are all drop dead gorgeous. However those three races only have two (or even one) face that looks good at all. The only reason female Elezen are unique right now is because less people play them. And less people play them because they just have less options offered to them when creating one. And that's sad. Elezens need more love and options.

Also 10 imaginary moneybucks to whoever can find the edit someone posted on the old forums. I thought it was a very nice edit that kept the elezen looking like elezen, but also fixed the more off-putting issues people seemed to have with the race.

Wow, I'm surprised the Elezen form seems to be so divisive! Compared to the elven race from Final Fantasy XI, the Elvaan, the Elezen's unique proportions have been toned down quite a bit (although their predecessors are still clearly an influence). Personally I'm a fan of both the Elezen and the Elvaan over the typical elf or human look, although I suppose I do agree with many in the thread in that I prefer the men over the women. The male Elezen's proportions in my mind are rather reminiscent of a male lead from a shoujo/bl manga - long limbs, broad shoulders, toned - and that works for me.

I don't think Elezens should be changed but I agree that it would be nice to have more customisation options. To the person that mentioned that they'd like the option to play and Elezen/Hyur hybrid, I believe this is already an option as Hilda's introduction shows the halfs are just shorter Elezens with shorter ears.

But no other race is THAT blatant. There's subtle enough differences in facial features to distinguish practically every single other female variety and yet with Elezen we legit go what should have been a facial preset to tick on and off. It's why I really want more variety across the board now that PS3 support has been dropped, but Elezen in particular need it the most. Don't change their body, don't change anything else, just give me more choices. That's all I want.

This is true too. I have to admit I prefer playing shorter girls, but I'm 5'2" (157 cm I believe?) so it's nice to watch a small girl destroy Gods and big buff characters. But I do have a soft spot for Elezen: I nearly made one after seeing their dance. Awkward giraffes deserve love.

I’m 5’1” and my main is a max height male Au Ra xD I don’t fault people for picking popular races. People are gonna play what they like to look at regardless of what others think- as they should! If anything, it just makes me appreciate the less used combos when I spot a cute one run past me in-game :}

but as for the subject of elezen, since they are so tall like Male Au ra they should be running with longer strides. however they seem to take smaller steps. Other than that I have no problems. They could use a few more hairstyles though.

Well that's a lot more posts than I expected! I'm glad so many people like the Eleven though! :) I'm envious honestly since I'd love to play one, maybe I just need to mess with the creator a bit more!

I tend to really disagree that Elezen are only unique cause people play them rarely. A bad elf is easy to spot and a well made one is very unique, imo. There's really a lot to put into the character creator and I just dont see that for the au ra females and Miqote specifically. It could be the horns or it could be that everyone and their mum is using the same faces. Even with different faces I can still tell that many Miqote and Au ra females look like carbon copies. While it is true that we Elves have less face options... I think it really goes beyond that. I've honestly never seen an exact copy of my elf. I've seen some close but never exact. So in a way I do feel unique because the model of my character hasn't been seen. I do receive feedback on my character saying that she's really well done and I'm cool with that. I know Elezen aren't everyone's cup of tea and that's totally fine. My point is that I dont think we can use faces to compare. I've seen a lot of creative Elezen that look unique on here and sometimes in the duty finder.

As for your other point, we can certainly work together as a community to get more options but Yoshida already said it himself that more customization isn't a plan for the future. But hey there's no problem with trying like you say but I don't really think it will lead to anything major mostly because people will want x new race like Lupin or Viera which imo, is just boring to waste dev resources on. I'm not really bashing other races. I'd call it more disappointment than anything but I like to go out in the overworld and look different.

Youre most likely being unconsciously biased, specially by comparing your own character's face with other Elezens and since you don't really seem to care too much about the other two races not really paying too much attention to them. Not to blame, mind you.

I, on the other hand, since I started as Miqo (and its hard for me to not switch back because the neck droop on highlanders is something I cannot unsee... also I loved my miqo regardless, even if Highlander build is more my jam), see a lot of Miqos I screenshot for the sake of finding them pretty or unique enough. I do that with Elezens too because I find good Elezen faces to be rare, so I enjoy it when I find one. On the other hand, all Lalas look the same to me (because they're the spawn of satan, all small humanoids in mmos are), and so do Au Ras because I just dont dig the whole overdone porcelain girl and dragon features meme. Midlanders are also bland as hell. But every once in a while someone manages to make one that stands out.

Mad props to a Duskwight that actually goes full drow; I actually find the darker skin much more attractive on them. I ran one such during the 1.x days, she still lingers on Balmung from the server merges back then.

I think most Duskwight go for the look I have, namely the lighter skin.

I do see darker skin from time to time, but more often on males and less often on females (and on my server I'm not sure if it's meant seriously, as it usually is accompanied by makeup options that can at best be called garish).

Yeeeees, this is the problem I had with my Au Ra! I like the horns your character in your avatar has the best, but the face was the deal breaker for me.

...And, just wanna throw this out there, I haven't seen any Au Ra who looks super close to what my character looks like yet. Even when my character was a Miqo'te I very rarely saw other miqos who looked too similar to her, even though I would see a lot of them with a similar face but the coloring would always be WAY off from hers and the eyes would almost always be different than the ones I'd pick.

Which honestly suprises me, in my mind you pick Duskwight because you want to go for the darker skin, it just seems like the logical choice, but they work just fine with the light skin tone, like you have. I'm personally a fan of darker skin, hence my Duskwight, and even before I fanta'd my cat had a much darker skin than most.

Dark skin options are great. I went for a grey-blue but I have a very dark retainer and love the way she looks, and for some reason all of my FC's female Miqo'te went for colourful skin options which make them all stand out a lot more.

Male elezen are fine. Ladies, however, suffer from shoulders too broad and heads too small combined with some comparatively poor animation work. Fix those, add a few more face models (all races need more parts to play with in the creator, let's be honest) and they'd fit right in.

Ahhh, I know what you guys mean! I made my duskwight elezen (who was my main dragoon in HW even though I have all the jobs on roe) as dark as I could: black hair, darkest skin option, black eyes and cute black freckles. Don't think I'll ever see a copy of him. I'd show a picture, but I'm at work. If interested, you can just write "Etoileaux" in lodestone. As I recall there's no other Etoileauxes on any servers.

Where did the broad shoulders go on the concept? Why was the swift elegant slender stylized vibe the concept art gives not entirely translated to the 3d models? I just want to understand. I always see the concept and think of what could've been and get sad. Even the arms look slimmer. Hyur and miqote are translated so well, even Roegadyn women. What happened to Elezen females? No one's asking to make them short, just asking to stylize/refine them like they have them in their final concepts. :)
