POTD floor 200 solo

Yeah I am not even trying to do it anymore. Its just not fun to loose every little bit of progress thanks to a DC that was not even the fault of my own connection..in times where DDOS attacks are happening often and the chaos server being not that stable anymore...not going to throw away hours of my life for that. And when I am finally blessed with a stable connection (the DC on floor 140 hurt like hell..) I have to deal with such a huge amount of RNG?

Like I said congrats to the one doing that but we still need some changes...at least take away the 0 death penality or change it to 3 deaths before we have to go back..

I wish it hadn't been because now SE won't nerf it in the slightest in spite of the fact only one class can do it, the oppressive GarbRNG, the need to know every single caveat and the fact DCing can potentially waste hours of your time. Such a poorly designed system. Grats to the lucky few who were able to spend days of their lives figuring out which mobs on those last levels were even combatable. Just to get a few letters above their head and nothing more. Nothing worse than a game that expects perfection when it in of itself is so god damned flawed.

Grats! I really dislike PoTD, so I've not ever gotten past floor 3. That's not saying its bad for everyone, I just really was like "nope" the 3rd floor in. So its quite an accomplishment you did here! :)

Disconnections aside, nothing else mentioned is unreasonable for a challenge run.

A challenge is supposed to be challenging. This would require work, experience, and a dash of luck.
What it isn't supposed to be is handed to people on a silver platter. I'm glad we have something exciting challenging.

Canadane, we are talking about something only one job even has a chance at doing, and something maybe less than five people in two years have even accomplished. I don't think it was even possible to solo to 200 pre stormblood, since RDM really is the only job that can blend dps and healing in equal amounts to do so. I don't know how this can be considered a challenge run.

The achievement was added only when RDM was added as such it is intended to be this way and probably they wanted this to be something rare, true I agree that there's a bit too much RNG involved to actually complete the challenge, but I think they geniunely wanted this title to be very rare.

You must not understand. At later levels its possible for mobs you CANNOT KILL without pomanders to almost exclusively spawn cause RNG. Then you get layout RNG. Then you have mimic RNG. THEN YOU HAVE CRIT RNG.

It is NOT a dash of luck. Sure there is work involved, but it isn't worth it. It's poorly designed and it pigeonholes you into one of the most stress inducing situations. Nerfing it would NOT be handing it to you on a silver platter. It would be transforming the poison soaked spike pitfalls with sawblades on either side and demons ready to eat you into a pitfall with sawblades, demons and spikes without poison.

I've gotten to floor 150 personally, if that's somewhat important to you. I'm not currently trying to go for 200 I have other tasks to go for right now.

I understand how later floors work. I don't think high stress situations are bad. Quite the contrary, it's nice to have the almost insurmountable challenge available and open to almost all players.

Regarding pomanders, yeah they're needed. Nobody is denying this. Again, not a bad design. It's a tool specific to the game modem. Use it and abuse it. Sorry if you've had some bad RNG, but I've always cleared floor 100 with almost 3x of every pomander. Don't really use them until they're required, like you said. So it minimises the chests I have to open, decreasing mimic chances.

It's a very fun game within our game.

The real pain doesn't start until 180, or so I've heard from friends, and watched being streamed. I don't really care enough to try to solo past what I already have.

Who knows, I may try too soon if I get bored, although I really don't trust the game and/or my connection to keep me online long enough to not DC during the middle of POTD. The connection lately has sucked horribly.

I enjoy challenges. Since getting past 150 in a group later on and knowing the boss mechanics, I've been wanting to go back. When I have the time I genuinely look forward to the challenge.

I don't want to discourage ya at all, but yeah 180+ is where you hit the big wall. Every mob pre 180 can be killed without using a pomander so long as there isn't a floor effect or something. I'd still say go give it a shot though and see how you feel about it, but bear in mind that 180 is when it's hard. Also around 150 you will probably feel the anxiety kick in as you keep looking at the clock wondering if you'll make it in time or if you'll have the boss to 5% and 'duty failed'.

Also I just want to kinda point out the following as far as the RNG goes and list all the RNG there is.

-Pomander RNG (Pomanders are 100% essentially to winning and it's possible later on that you may not get the ones you need. at floor 190 you NEED to have at least 1 steel and possibly two if you can't beat the boss or he will ONE SHOT YOU)
-Trap RNG (Floor 180+ if you hit a luring trap you are dead. this will waste a raising pomander or ruin your run)
-Status debuff RNG (not as big a problem as trap RNG, if you get a floor with the debuff where you can't use pomanders or sustaining potions then you can't beat the floor without clearing the debuff)
-Crit RNG (Floor 190+ some mobs can do attacks that will crit you + do an attack for 80% or so of your hp killing you instantly without a steel)
-Floor Layout RNG (Depending on floor layout, you may have an easier or harder time. this matters because the time is ticking. CONSTANTLY TICKING)
-Monster Layout RNG (Sometimes you will get floors filled with only mobs that you cannot kill without one or two witching pomanders)
-Mimic RNG (On the later floors, the amount of Mimics you encounter goes up and getting infatuation on you will make things harder. Not to mention mimics take a lot to kill)

The thing is: nobody criticized Ultimate because it was too hard, or those were irrelevant people that didn't kill O4S and wanted to try it... But yeah. Those people are irrelevant for that content. In the same way anyone who didn't experience Potd floor 180+ Solo, or didn't "study" it is irrelevant regarding that content. There are people out here that tried for actual years to go to floor 200 solo, and that didn't succeed, not because they weren't "Super excellent", they are, but because the whole challenge is unfair.

So yeah, having an irrelevant person coming out of nowhere to say "You just need a dash of luck" despite the dozens/hundreds of hours you've worked... It probably can trigger many people, and that's legit.

So don't make that a state affair, and do as I do: leave communities alone if you're not interested in what they're doing, except in condescending ways.

I'm curious how they could make this doable on more jobs without nerfing it for light parties. I doubt they'd want to develop and test a party number based scaling system for old content.

I've made my attempts, on my main (blm) and as rdm. Past floor 100 I can fully understand why rdm is lord of the palace. And I also know as it is right now I'll likely be unable to clear it solo, especially after my FC finally got our 200. After seeing 180+ it's... it's just evil.

As an attempting soloist I don't want to see a big nerf, Angelus made some excellent suggestions on another thread as to what can be done for solo potd that will still keep the challenge. This isn't like crying for a nerf on a trial, we're asking for adjustments on a dungeon crawl that takes HOURS and you lose it all for one death. Something only TWO people have achieved on content that has been available since SB release.

Because this is the equivilant of someone saying savage turn 4 is fine when they haven't even completed savage turn 3. Does that help?

This is pretty much what I would like. I liked his suggestions. I don't want it to be easy. I like it hard, just not unfair.

150 solo and 200 in a group is more than enough experience to form an opinion. I suspect it's a hell of a lot more than most of the people asking for it to be nerfed.

Would a savage run that can only be completed by certain jobs be a good challenge too? I dont mean this in a sarcastic way just interesting if that would be fine in other content too.

Its great that after such a long time two people finally did it but its still a bad challenge. Just the danger with the DC alone is making that nearly impossible for most of us. And if you won that RNG battle you have to win the pomander RNG battle too. I have no problem with RNG if there is not so much hours behind it. Would people love it if you can only beat a savage fight if you got certain buffs that are completely RNG? There will be some groups that might beat it but would that feel great? (And no I am not saying that it was not great for those two to win this challenge, just that it does not necessarily makes it into a good one)

They could have made it "easier" by changing the title from 1-200 to 51-200 or even 101-200 which means that people could at least ignore everything below 51 which would save them quite some hours. Then they could have done something against the DC part. Maybe everyone has always three tries to start at 101 again if they fail or you can start three times over at 101 when you DC (so if you are kicked without being killed). This way this might help at least a bit and would also help with training for these runs.

Its probably not possible to make it so that every job will be able to do that because that might just make it much easier with Redmage. But some small changes could at least help a bit.

Its probably not possible to make it so that every job will be able to do that because that might just make it much easier with Redmage. But some small changes could at least help a bit.

Consider that this game gives you the ability to have multiple job on one character
Now consider that PoTD doesn't care about your job level and then consider that your gear doesn't matter at all inside.

Imho I think that it's the current situation is as fair as it can be until the 180 floor shenanigans, since you are not locked from partecipating in this challenge (well you need HW expansion though) if you don't main RDM normally.

Dcs and RNG aspects should not be mixed with job esclusivity since they are a very different chimera and honestly they are valid points of complaints.
Making something similar on savage? I dunno, the conditions are far different between the two systems since you are gated by levels and gear in this setting. It could be done thought the circumstances makes it much more contrived than the actual Potd one

This is honestly one of the biggest things that bugs me about it. I've conquered floors 1-100. I proved I can do them. In fact I've conquered all the way up to 185. If the game didn't push me into wasting around 6-10 hours just to 'try again' it wouldn't be nearly as bad. Being cheated out of those hours due to RNG and DC is literally why it's unfair.

Doing well on floors 180+? Here let me spawn one of those mobs you gotta use two witchings on that aggros you instantly. Used a pomander to make the next floor have less mobs? Have fun with all of them being mobs you gotta use two witchings on. Want that chest? yeah it's a mimic. Oh you still managed to survive somehow? You took too long, go back to start. Then you get back to level 120 or something and you get dced and you realize that it's not worth it to waste your time on something so poorly designed.

I know this post is about the SOLO RUN TO FLOOR 200 & pardon me for going off topic.
One of the big issues that I had with POTD that made me care less for floors 101-200 was the stipulations, especially the one that only fixed parties can go to floors 101-200.
Ever since POTD came out, I was always in matched parties & like it that way. Running parties were you were RED MAGE TANK & every one was healers...was very interesting.
To put a stipulation that only fixed parties can do floors 101-200 & match parties...prevents some players from experiencing the content.

Actually a good deal of us aren't asking for a total nerf... just some alterations to the solo version vs the party version that make it a little more possible for others to be able to enjoy and defeat. When you realize the class you main just isn't equipped to handle the content, or that unless the rng gods are kind you've wasted 15+ hours, and that for some reason you have to qualify to go past 100 again and again because the achievement is 1-200 even though 1-100 is just an aggravating time waste at this point... we're frustrated because we WANT to do this, we WANT to try it but it would be nice to have some of the pointless hurdles kicked aside and maybe a little something extra because we're going alone.

edit: I don't want to just mow everything down, I want to earn the necromancer title... but as it is now I'm tired of wasting so much time just to access relevant floors... or having to start over if I get poop for poms.

In a perfect world we would have a solo PotD run that changes according to the job you are going in. So that it would still be a challenge but for each job or at least for tanks, healers and DD it would be different. But right now I would just be happy to not have to start again and again because the server or the instance cant handle it and DC me..I would love to throw myself at this challenge even for long hours because right now the palace is the only solo fighting content that interests me but I simply cant..Chaos is way to unstable right now and as soon as I try it again I have a DC after one or a handful of floors. THAT is the most frustrating thing to me right now..that I cant even try to get to these hardcore floors of 180+ thanks to the bad connection..
