I mean, I took one look at how the game handled and what the abilities were like and figured it would be pretty terrible. Actually trying it confirmed my suspicions. I'll do it to get gear, but it's really not enjoyable.

We went over this already in another thread, but I'll gladly repeat it again: The means to get a weapon around the ilvl of the oadjal or kinna weapon are fast enough aswell - even if you exlcude the Shire weapon.
PvP-weapons (ilvl 235) for 4.000 wolfmarks - even if you lose every game thats a maximum of 8 frontline battles; still faster than any PotD-weapon gain
Crafted weapons (ilvl 250) - because I remember your argument of how your friend didnt wanted to spend 30 minutes on crafting a weapon: Its still faster than getting one in PotD.
EX-Primal drops - a maximum of 10 runs of Sophia for ilvl255 is still faster than getting the needed aetherpool in PotD; Zurvan offers 265 and as many of them as you like!
So, getting a weapon in this game is fast and easy outside of PotD aswell. Now you might say "But they dont want to do [PvP/EX-Primals/Spending gil/Crafting]" - but it really is the same for a person who wants fast and easy exp from PotD - they might not want to use one of the other ways the game provides. You see thr problem? Both sides have valid alternatives and both sides picked PotD - one isnt more important than the other one and one doesnt has more right to be there.
Communication and finding a comrpomisse is the key - but if your starting point is "NO! I wont go faster because everyone who wants to do that is a jerk who just wants to screw me over and betray me of something that is rightfully mine!" you wont get very far with that ofc...
...I dont think anyone here said that you suck at this game? No one here is attacking you - everyone is just trying to offer you advice or show alternative ways for you to get weapons. No need to throw such a fit...
We all know that its not down to one single person to beat content in this game, thats the very nature of an MMO after all. It is unfortunate that you were paired up with people who might have been new to actually dealing with mechanics or for other reasons not able to handle them and who didnt listen to advice when it was offered. But failing at something in this game (or in general, really) doesnt has to result in nerfing said content.
Content should be allowed to be at least a bit of a challenge without people getting upset straight away - if you feel that you suck you have two options: Get better or give up. Its sad to see that you rather choose the later one, but thats obviously down to you after all...
There's stepping up to take charge of a situation, then there's forcing a decision on others. Similarly, there's also taking charge of yourself and your own actions. THAT speaks of initiative far more than simply being the decisive person in the moment. It's safe to say no one's ever going to force me into a type of run I don't want to do. However I won't pitch a fit and demand things go my way, or force others into it either. You want to speedrun and I don't? No prob. Let me make room for someone else who might be all for it. Everyone wants chests but you wanna race through? Sorry man, no hard feelings if you want to leave and find a group more suited to your aims. All of this "oh just go with it" talk breeds resentment and avoidance of duties and/or players. Being civil and trying to communicate is THAT hard? Treating other players as you'd like to be treated isn't possible? Seriously?
There's a wide spectrum of questions I'd want to ask, but it sounds to me like you went in already intent to dislike it and saw what you wanted to see (or perhaps didn't see what you wanted to see), and thus validated your already pre-formed opinion of it. Conjecture on my part, and it's lacking supporting statements, yes. But at least you tried it.
I mean, this isn't my first MMO. I have a really good idea of what I like and don't like in PVP, so unless there's some truly novel PVP format (and this game doesn't have one), I don't actually need to try it to have a really reliable idea of whether I'll like it or not.
To be fair, what incentives are there to exploration? You cannot just slap some branching pathways into a dungeon design only to throw up your hands when no one bothers looking. Even those who do show interest will do it once or twice, then what? Why explore something you've already seen, especially if it doesn't offer anything worthwhile? All of this is further compounded by the fact we only have two dungeons to run per patch. No matter what the devs do, those dungeons will grow stale. People speedrun now just for efficiency but because there is no incentive not to. When the devs treat content like busy work, people will respond to it as such. Right now, that's all dungeons are after one or two runs: busy work.
This has been my take on it. Though it'd be hard to tell by my posts lol. I'm much nicer in game than in the forums.
First of all, you don't get to tell others not to post in a thread. When you open pandora's box, you can't close it. Second, you're selling yourself short. Don't compare your abilities to others. Hell most of the time people aren't half as good as they appear to be. The tank that pulls rooms and rooms may not know how to do their job properly. All a DRK has to do in that situation is Unleash, Paladin flashes, and Warrior Overpowers or whatnot (one of my few classes not past 30 admittedly). Speed running players aren't always good.
But I will say this. If you choose to quit, then yes you're not good. But if you choose to keep going, learn, and are generally willing to work with a team. Then you are a good player, you don't have to be god's gift to FFXIV to be a great player. Just an open mind, good attitude, and willingness to learn from mistakes. That's literally the secret.
You are just being hard on yourself, its a game first and a game should be enjoyed, you will eventually be able to beat content just have to go at it with the right attitude and angle
I wasn't around for ARR, but back then, 8 man raids had no normal / savage mode distinction like we have today so I don't know if you can really compare the two.
After reading stuff like this, it sounds like you just wanted attention. Go back to tumblr.
If you're going to have that attitude, I'd recommend steering clear of MMOs. Part of the game in this genre is working with other people. Communicating with one another. And being able to take criticism or having a discussion. You don't have to be able to complete crazy endgame content (I've not even stepped into Alexander myself, still working on getting to that point). But at the end of the day, you do need somewhat of a thicker skin then you're displaying.
Getting yourself banned won't stop the discussion. You -might- be able to get the thread locked, but someone can simply create another one and quote from this one. And if you'red banned you can't stop it. If you want out of the discussion, simply stop reading. But IMO its a tad bit arrogant to think you're the sole focus in this discussion simply because you created the thread.
All I'm gonna say is don't let other people's opinion ruin the game for you it's just the forums. People will always disagree with you in one way or the other. But if you let yourself get this bent out of shape because people don't agree with you then you'll never be able to enjoy the game sad to say.
Sorry, but I'm no leftist. I don't try to ban people for spouting BS. Also, this is a forum. If you have ideas or an attitude that the majority does not like, you will be judged for it. It's only natural.
Most people try and try and try until they find a group that's able to get the kill.
You, however, only whine about how it is "impossible" for you to beat it and that you will never be able to get past this challenge. In addition, you chose to whine about in on a (more or less) public forum, as if you wanted other people to console you since you are so "unlucky".
And no, you will not be banned. Stop being such a wimp and be mature about your mistakes.
No you don't. Give the relic quest a go, now that it's nerfed it's even easier to get a "decent" and "up to date" weapon, with just running level 50 & 60 dungeons that are normal/regular content. You won't have to step into any content that's declared as raid or any extreme primals.
What do you need a 200+ weapon for?
Your issue is, as I've said before, is too focused on other players. You want a better weapon because someone else has one. You're too wrapped up around how others see you. You want to be successful and have fun with this game and just about any other MMO? Do what you can. Don't worry about what others think of it.
As for continuing to play, that's entirely up to you. Its not my place to tell you to stop. I can give opinions, advice, or feelings. But that's it.
Honestly this completely goes against what FFXIV set out to do. Everything is super streamlined to avoid the situations that OP gets into. It's an issue that should be fixed.
I used to get upset at speedrunners but I've realized that I can just solo my way through the place, but not everyone can do that and they shouldn't be removed from rewards because of some people.
