It specifically mentions that it will SHARE gear with casters. It didn't just mention INT.

"– Red Mage will share gear with casters and it’s main stat will be INT"
Or see original interview in famitsu, Yoshida already told it clearly. RDM use caster gear.

So much for uniqueness then :(
Sigh
Having its own set of gear wouldn't really make Red Mage, 'Unique.' It's gameplay style will make it unique. Let's wait and see what we get, shall we?
Honestly, any set that isn't an Artifact set fits a theme, not a class anyways. Most caster gear is already well disposed towards the Red Mage aesthetic since Coats are SE's way of compromising between players who want robes (back and front covered all the way down to the toes) and those who don't.
The problem is many people can't identified between coat and robe and combine many caster coat with robe. I always told many caster gear have a lot of coat and RDM always wear coat style in past series. Current gear have a lot of coat that can fit with RDM. If people want RDM style so much, they can glamour artifact and abandon other caster glamour same as many people did with AST artifact. It has problem because people want to play everything but don't want to sacrifice something.
Besides the aesthetic oddity, I think it was a fine enough choice, not even sure how much bigger our armory is actually going to get, so it will be nice to have it condensed with my other casters. Besides what matters is the main stats and desirable secondaries, What exactly would a different armor type actually do besides maybe different defense/m def(which I guess could be arguable since rdm used to be a bit sturdier than whm/blm) looks to me like they arent expecting us to be up on the enemies the majority of the time, so no need probably. Saves dev time too, esp with sam also sharing sets with mnk. So I hope they spent that time developing more on the gameplay of these jobs. Just gotta wait and see I guess
I'm happy to hear RDM can share gear with SMN. I dislike having little armory space and having to gather separate gears for the same role, especially while leveling.
If some gear needs be intended only to RDM, SE just will lock it to RDM job and problem solved, as it already happens on other jobs for some gear around, so no need to have new stats.
Less sets we need have, more time we get for other things in the game rather than grinding gear. 5 sets are already too much imo.
Think LalaRu was refering to this
Ill have to find the post, but Yosh stated that they are working on a new looting system. My guess is that each will have their own loot tree. Each class will have its own unique look to it.
That would be, honestly, horrible. Even with expanded inventory space, having to manage equipment for every single job would be nightmare for anyone that actually enjoys playing multiple jobs. I would love a better loot system that makes sure everyone in a run gets something they can actually use, but having to store so many sets of armor is just insane, and does not even count keeping inventory for glamour. Remember the current glamour system also requires you can equip that glamour piece.
You dream like you don't know dev team. Even they separate the set, you will no get unique looks (except only artifact). You will get a lot of swap palette of same model or better like ranged shire gear that be swap texture. You can look back at all gear you have now. Scouting always share model with Striking/Aiming. Scouting gear lack of own unique looks and you hope RDM will get unique looks? Same for aiming, many of it share model with caster/healer as ranged jobs already. How you think dev will crete unique look on each set?
But just separating the sets would allow for glamouring unique looks. The problem with artifact gear is that it currently can't be glamoured to anything else that's going to share a set with other jobs. If we could have separate sets per job (even if their default looks were nothing but pallete swaps of each other), we'd be able to glamour either AF or whatever other looks we like for each of them separately.
I honestly could not care less about RDM using casting gear. I care more about how it plays.
As for glamour...this game has enough as it is and Yoshida said its getting a huge overhaul in Stormblood. I remember at NA fanfest when he said this game is way too much about glamour...I agree.
I personally am excited for RDM, a sword user with magic, easily gonna be my fav class. Plus i always wished i could use some of the magic gear, the melee stuff doesn't even come close to being as cool as the magic sets.
