Red Mage use Casting gear!!

Many people still think RDM use Dex gear even yoshida said it is ranged magic DPS. Ranged magic DPS in this game only use casting gear and Gear Design Contest (Ranged Magic DPS/Healer Edition) in JP page already said it clearly. Ranged magic DPS include Red mage which will be added in patch 4.0. (No this detail in english page)

Note that while this is true, it is still possible that Red Mage will be like Dragoon and Ninja and have their own set of gear instead of sharing with Black Mage/Summoner. Given that they will be up close and personal more often then the other two it would probably have higher Defense (though not as much as melee DPS probably).

Armor isn't really applicable when you're a melee mage with low cooldown gap closer and elusive jump

It specifically mentions that it will SHARE gear with casters. It didn't just mention INT.

I have very mixed feelings about sharing gear with Summoner/Black Mage.

On the one hand, I like SMN, I hope I like RDM, shared gear = less grind.
On the other, coming up with a glamour that works for both jobs is going to be hard.

I hope that we will get more diversity in caster/healer designs instead of white/black versions of the same robe now that six jobs are using the same sets.

So this will either mean BLM and SMN may finally see less robes in the future and a less restrictive Glamour-wardrobe... or RDM will join the highly restricted choice in Glamour options Casters and Healers currently have ._.

I think they will share gear with the other two casters.

Why ?
Because adding another new gear category would dilute the loot pool too much.
Right now there are 7 sets combat of gear:

- Tank (PLD/WAR/DRK)
- Healer (WHM/SCH/AST)
- Magic DPS (SMN/BLM)
- Ranged DPS (BRD/MCH)
- Dragoon
- Monk
- Ninja

That's 6 pieces (head, body, hands, waist, legs, feet) times seven sets is 42 different armor loot items. At 2 loot items per chest, that's already a fairly small chance of getting an item you can use. Increasing that number of sets would only decrease the chance even more - if you think you currently have to grind a lot to get your preferred drop, think again.

Even if loot is restricted to a choice from 3 pieces per chest (as in the current 24 man raids, that's still 21 different items of which 2 get picked per chest =)

So for eminently practical reasons, I can understand the upcoming jobs sharing gear with existing jobs -- and I highly suspect any future jobs will end up doing the same!

Considering how tomestones work currently, and is extremely likely to keep working in 4.0 onwards, I don't think SE really cares all that much about bloating the lootdrops from chests, since I'm pretty sure that most peoples gear comes from tokens of one kind or another.
