inb4 if you don't like the way jump looks don't use it? lol
Right now walking on a vertical cliff side is more immersion breaking than jumping on the top of this small cliff. So I'm happy they will add it.
Yay! Jumping!! :D
As for the animation of it, relax guys, it's not coming before next year, they'll fix it (they already said it is for testing purpose as of now).
...wonderful, Yoshi just lost a little of my respect -.-
Jumping isn't the problem really, other MMO's allow you to jump of cliffs and fall to your death or lose large amounts of HP, get sprained ankles etc.
FFXIV will have this cool jump feature but I'm guessing there will be invisable walls everywhere, which kind of kills the immersion for me, If I want my Lala to commit suicide then whos this invi-wall to tell me otherwise (\./)
It would be cool to have parts in dungeons that if you fall off or miss a jump you fall to your death also.
I hope they make jump just like in counterstrike where you strafe left and right while jumping
BUNNY HOP FTW!
I wanna get from Uldah to nanawa mines in 10 seconds
every time the jumping issue arise, i reply the same thing: "i don't care if can jump or not, but if i can jump, he need to have a PURPOSE". Simply jumping for the sake of do it it's pointles, i hope it'll serve to something gameplay-related
It's like. You people have completely ignored the fact that Yoshida himself has referenced WoW when talking about the development of FFXIV. It's mind blowing.
Alright, so the argument about whether or not to have jump is apparently over, however much I rather dislike the idea, for my part.
That being said, as much as some apparently hate the idea of anyone expressing their opinions on the matter, the argument about how it ought be implemented begins, so..
For goodness' sake please make it at least vaguely realistic? The concept we were shown just looks bizarre even for a Hyur. I dread to think how a Lalafell or Roegadyn would look with a similar jump, even if it were adjusted proportionately.
If you ask me, jump-height should be either realistic or perhaps a smidge higher than realistic, and ought either be tied to some sort of stamina limiter or have an animation lock on the end both to encourage people to think about how they ought use it and to prevent it simply being spammed freely.
I'm very glad of Reinhart pointing out that Yoshida also said it looked rather silly and too high as presently concepted.
Where is everyone seeing a jump video?
CRAP I thought that letter was tonight, I missed it, *goes to Twitter*
The jumping look dumb i don't mind if they add jumping swiming or even flying mount as long as they look good doing them,.
Yes i wanted jump and we are getting it... i love it now for swimming!
I was neither for nor against jumping when this came up before, but since it's being implimented... I really don't see why it has to be "realistic". We're heros in a Final Fantasy game. There are no shortage of characters making unrealistic jumps in this series.
Wow ... our characters look like they are taking jumping lessons from FFXIII characters. Jumping 2 stories high. Now they just need to add some random flips.
Obvious troll is obvious. We're getting it, it's in production, you lost this battle, move along.
Then again, without jump, your "moving along" does take you along longer, more awkward paths, whereas I can just bounce right over that hurdle and keep going, so I guess it's understandable you're still struggling with it while most everyone else has long since bounded over that issue.
the ifrit battle sucks as it is.
i cant even think about what it would be like to wipe because of a miss placed jump.
i dont wanna play mario.
i want strategy not action.
jump sucks
the end
can someone please explain to me why this game needs to have a jump feature? Are there platforming parts in this game? I'm just a little confused as to why we need jumping?
I WANT ALL THE PEOPLE THAT WANTED JUMP TO GO JUMP OFF A CLIFF
See, while jumping might add new dynamics to combat and obviously zone traversal, it doesn't really imply that new zones would be added.
But swimming, hot damn. Not only can they add more depth(no pun intended) to content like spearfishing, but they can also a whole new slew of zones like underwater ruins, caves, cities, etc. Just think about being able to swim down the Abyss and conduct raids on Sahagin strongholds, or maybe cities lost from the destruction of the 6th Umbral Era. Think of the possibilities for a new aquatic race!
People have been explaining why pretty much since the game launched. Please, read one of those threads and catch yourself up.
The long and the short of it is that this is a standard feature in MMOs though. Regardless of the many other valid reasons, this game has to compete in a market where jump is standard, and last I checked they're not clamoring to have jump removed in Rift or WoW.
The people who have this ridiculous hatred of jump just need to get over it and move on. It's coming, whether you like it or not, because more people want it. That's how both democracies and capitalism work.
In my opinion I don't want jump at all.
There are jumping animations and they are cool because of your lock to the ground.
Just because there are jump animations should not mean your character should jump everywhere.
I don't care about the immersion argument as it can always goes both ways.
I don't want to have to do gimmicky jump games or tactics.
I enjoy so many games without jump and I enjoy some with jump as well. It depends on the game and this game isn't such a game that requires jump. It doesn't need to be a platformer or the next uncharted.
Characters always look weird when they jump. The video is a prime example, even if it is jump "alpha stage".
So what if you have to take the extra step around, enjoy the scenery or take your chocobo. Are we really this lazy we need them to add some feature that is so over the top pointless?
about time they're going to add jump. i think its a bit too high though.
Everything can always change. If enough people say they don't want it they will obviously change their thoughts on the matter. There is obviously a large crowd that are against this decision. So go and debate, let us hear your side. Instead of this inarticulate dribble you keep spewing out at us.
So a game has to have jump not because it is needed for the gameplay but because everyone else is doing it? That is a pretty stupid reason. What I want to know is with this jump are we getting areas with platform elements or we are just getting a tacked on jump to copy everyone else?
People who think wow invented everything, really need to stop, wow copied good ideas from other mmos. Jumping for instance, correct me if I'm wrong, came from Everquest being one of the first 3d mmorpgs, that you could move in x,y,z axis-es. If you want to blame anyone blame Everquest.
There are 3 major mmo generations, each generation bringing new things to the genre.
Being in the in the 3rd generation of mmos, we need to keep with the times of the genre, we can't be a competitive mmo when we are still sticking with the 2nd generation of movement.
No matter how much you old school players want to keep to the old times, you are living in the past, I am not saying its a bad thing, but don't try and hold back what could be a genre changer. If we let ffxiv get its foot in the door by being in the game generation as its direct competitors, and the devs for ffxiv add things that no other mmo has, that change the genre and improve it. We could be in for a treat.
Perhaps that particular animation was for jumping on the moon..or with a (-) gravity spell.
Still, Its a tech demo so any feedback is largely useless at this point.
I'm largely opposed to jumping (except with DRG). Without any in-game relevance, it's just a me-too gimmick to make FF look like the other MMO games out there.
Plus it seems it's not going to have a purpose other than being able to Jump as I figured it would. (Just an animation), since there's still a good possibility they'll have barriers in place, since when he even first mentioned it he mentioned 'emote', which are largely just animations and no real implementation outside of a few quests.
The emote is probably just an afterthought since Dragoon needs it as an ability as well.
the animation of the character moving, and jumping looks fantastic, tho the height is a bit much. This really does seem to make the game look more fluid, not feel so clunk. After people give it a try I'm sure they will come to love it, people are just afraid of change for some reason.
I don't mind jump being in the game, but it definitely need to be reworked. I don't want to see a Lalafell jumping that high. An NBA player can't even jump that high based on height/jump ratio. I'm positive that was just concept to show that they have something coded and are planning to go with it, but yeah, let's make it a bit more realistic. Lalafell should be able to maybe jump 2 foot high. :P
I'm going to laugh if it's just an animation and doesn't allow you to hurdle anything.
While I think it looks stupid (Being Alpha and all), so long as it doesn't follow in the footsteps of Elder Scrolls and make me jump continuously to level up my Acrobatics skill, I think I can live with it.
A request? Please prevent people from using jump in cities.
Yes, for the love of the twelve, please prevent jumping in cities!!!
The last thing we need is people hopping all over the place like Rift. They have that, and it's a BIG reason that I don't play Rift anymore. It's unnecessary. It doesn't make you move faster.
It's bad enough with the emote spammers.
In fact, I'd like the option to block seeing any jumping animations on my screen.
