Actually, D&D Online has functional auction house. It's a timed auction, seller sets an asking price and an optional buyout price, and an expiry period. Prospective buyers place their bids, and are notified by in-game mail if they've been outbid.
It also has Pawn shops, where sellers sell equipment at a fixed price, and buyers buy it at a higher fixed price. Sellers do better here than selling items to NPCs, and it functions as a money sink, and is an anonymous way to buy and sell. In fact, I believe the AH is also anonymous.
I've just played FFXIV for the first time in months, and find it to be more fun than it was regardless of the MW/AH status. Battle system as a higher priority than economy makes sense to me simply because I do not spend most of my time buying and selling things.
Lets try this again since people are so hung up on the PS3 part of my last scenario
Hi my name is Bob. I am a potential future FFXIV PC player. I have decided to do a little reading on FFXIV because I am considering dropping $25-50 up front and then $13+ per month on it. Please direct me to the media you would have me read which shows the game in a positive light. Maybe some media that has good things to say about the market wards.
oh hey there you whipper snapper, my name is wilson, i work at the games and other cool stuff too store. didnt you know ffxiv is f2p until further notice, it will only cost you about 25 dollars to play for now, you may as well try it for your self.
yay, were role playing
Almost 100 replies; no SE response the previous AH thread made THIS WEEK had 300+ replies; no SE response, the several thousand replies to previous AH threads have had no responses from SE.
You shouldnt. You clearly are one of the extreme minority of the population that purchased the game that are happy with it. I am talking about NEW customers the ones that have yet to pay out their hard earned money for the game. Those people may do some research on the game before they purchase it. I was wondering if any of these potential customers will have anything besides extremely negative media to read.
They have nothing to say about it yet so they are not talking about it. simple as that... just calm down and be more patient, you will get your answer soon enough.
Except thinking as an average gamer, I'm not going to look at idiotblogger196's livejournal for a video game review. I'm going to look at metacritic, gamespot, or giantbomb, and none of those sites have any news on the game except what they belched out a year ago.
And they won't have anything new until after the PS3 release.
This thread keeps on bringing the lulz.
That 30 seconds it takes to walk to the retainer to pick up an item must be VERY important to you all.
Threat like this amount to nothing but getting some good laugh's on the amount of bigotry. If SE decides it or not it there decision not to a hand full of poster's on these forums.
No, no it doesn't.
WoW's expansions introduced innovation after innovation. Many of us didn't like them at all - they certainly weren't for the better.Quote:

I personally like the idea behind market wards. The MW + Retainer system has a lot more potential than traditional auction houses. It's much closer to being able to make your character a merchant of sorts than the models we're used to. If your character focuses on crafting or gathering, market wards offer more possibilities.
Unfortunately the market wards still need quit a bit of work.
Why is my retainer only able to buy items for me that are already in my inventory?
Why does the search menu not show which items items currently being bought by retainers?
Why do the market wards only allow you make repair requests, and not repair offers?
Why are they still allowing the market ward floors to be covered in a sea of retainers, instead of expanding the stall system and making it a requirement?
All of those except the first are things that are much easier to implement in the current system than in an auction house, and things the developers need to think about if they want the market ward's strengths to shine instead of feeling like a second rate AH.
It's likely that the establishment of an AH or any major changes to the market ward system will occur only after the server fixes. We don't yet know when the server fixes will be, so we don't know when changes to the system of buying and selling will happen.
The AH was never "taken off" the development list. Only the time frame of the list was changed. The first development list we got had no time frame: it was a simple "to do" list. But late in the spring Yoshida altered the list to reflect only tasks that would release or hit development milestones over the summer. Very long-term tasks were omitted. That includes the zone redesign, which they are obviously working on, but which won't be releasing anytime soon.
Yoshida has already given us a preliminary list of major content expected for 1.20 and 1.21. It's likely that he's going to keep this list relatively short-term. If he doesn't, then we all get overanxious and start complaining. But the fact that changes to the system of buying and selling aren't in our current list doesn't mean they're not happening. It just means they probably won't happen THIS YEAR.
Keep in mind, I'm not arguing that we're definitely getting an AH or anything. But any changes that are likely to put stress on the servers probably aren't going to happen until the server fixes. When we finally approach that point, I think we'll see a lot of items (such as a delivery system) on the to do list.
That's the sad reality, but really why waste your time arguing with whiteknights? Surely it doesn't take a genius to realize MW is ass backwards, a ridiculous time-sink and if anything hurts the game. Granted, i'll give them credit for trying something new, unfortunately it just doesn't cut it.
Let's hope SE listens to the voice of reason and save this game from this impending whiteknight doom that attempts to shut down any positive contribution towards this game.
In the end, If SE does implement an AH, I assure you, everyone including these anti AH people will be happy, simply because it works more efficiently. All that's happening atm is the SE defense force is playing it's role.
@ OP - I support your thread. AH is a definite must for the success of this game.
While i do agree with some people who mentioned that it's not the most urgent issue..and i would stress here, not because it's not urgent, but rather because the more critical features are a total mess, hence priority goes to battle system, transportation, job system, world redesign and what not. Someone did mention that's not actually off the list of things to do, just delayed, so that is a good thing to know. Hopefully it gets tackled in the next live session and comes to fruition.
Belial gets it, why don't the rest of you?
I've never heard anyone say the MW are perfect, just that we don't need an AH. As a matter of fact, most of the folks arguing for an AH and against the wards don't even realize that with a few tweaks, we basically have an AH already.
of course they dont get it
in their eyes, we are against their ideas, when in fact, we are moreso just in favor of BETTER things getting added right now
we wont be mad when/if an AH the way they want it gets added, we would however be mad if that caused us to get less content cuz it was pushed up the priority ladder(which it obviously isnt even on at all)
Well, perhaps you have missed the common notion that anti MW people have which is basically to bring something about that works as efficiently as an AH. Me and anyone else who are requesting an AH, simply request it because it works, not because it's an AH. So, until the MW becomes as efficient as AH, expect people to request an AH, because that is what is known to work and it works good.
i am in favor of either as long as it is functional from all three citys. Also i would put map redo, jobs, and battle reg
i would really like to have the option to buy from the item search menu personally. pay an extra 500 gil for a npc to fetch your goods, idc. atever theyll call it) before market redo/fix.
