While i do agree that they dont have do go down the route you talk about I dont think these new weapons look OTT apart from the bow maybe, the game sorely needed some eye candy as it was lacking in weapons that had the "dam i gota have that" factor.

Its that they don't look good, not that they look fantasy.
As I've said, the weapons from well most of the FF games I love, Especially VIII/XII/XIII..

The effect is nice, But the ARC/PUG weapons look far to chunky and OTT, they don't look stylish/effective they just look Big and meh...
lots of games have a much more fantasy look to the weapons then those, but they look a lot better imo.
They look like they could be used easily and well for there Job, and fit with the look of the game.

It's a mute point really, some are happy with the weapons some aren't..
They will keep going that way with the armour/weapons or they will get better.
Personally one of the Good parts of this game looks to be going out the window, its not enough that I want to leave, but it could head that way, I'll just have to wait and see.

Why are you talking about realism? No one is arguing that. We are only saying the style of the weapon (in our opinion) does not fit the style of the game. And also that they are ugly. ;)

I never asked for realism, it's purely a matter of preference in aesthetics.(note the "relatively realistic look", and yes, that's a design style in case you didn't notice). If realism was my criteria, most of the gear right now wouldn't even pass anyway. I've never try to claim you guys who like the designs are wrong, why are you so eager to tell me that my personal artistic taste is wrong?

as much as the new designs are eye candies that screamed "damn i gota have that" to you, to me the new designs are only giving me the "ewww gtfo" feeling.

In a fantasy world, it's not "everything goes, who cares because its fantasy". Things are always based off of what was planned out relative to the world that you create. What if we added spaceships and laser guns?

Would you tell me that is ok because its just a fantasy? I'm guessing you'd say "no... thats sci fi". Which is exactly why people put boundaries on what type of fantasy you are dealing with.

tbh I liked the New Weapons and all. Just that It'd look better(for me) If they resized the PGL and ARC weapon a little. The weapon that looked weirdest to me was that THM wand lol, what's with that Blue sphere? xP

I didn't see any shield in the loot so that means we ain't getting any? :< and here I thought a Flame Shield would look very cool!

You don't incapacitate the chest so it doesn't help your drop chances, and Deepvoid/Batraal at least have no loot table of their own so there is really no point in incapacitating either which is a real shame. If incapacitation had been included then groups could push themselves to incapacitate different areas for a better shot at certain loot. I guess I'm silly for wanting more goals in a fight than just get HP to 0% as quickly as possible, but then again I've been playing MMO's for a long time I guess I expect more.



I think we got enough fun with "chests" in Darkhold to hold us over for one patch... we haven't had an encounter to use incapacitations on since the December NMs.

Except incapacitations brings no added difficulty at all. It's a pointless mechanic that will hopefully be phased out.

Don't forget all the gunblade weapons and empire ships that look straight outta war of the worlds and all that other "Final Fantasy" like stuff >.< Ya these weapons don't belong in Final Fantasy game at all *sarcasm* lmao... 1.19 really does look like the start of making the game feel like a real FF, and more stuff keeps piling up :) Can't wait! Good news is though, most the people complaining will get over it a week or less after its released like alot of the other stuff when first announced lmao Quest markers, agro icons, instance timers, party size reductions, could go on forever... Thank god the dev team is smarter than that though and doesn't listen to these people :D

i think they pulled off the glowing weapon theme with the right amount of balance were they aren't obnoxious. pug/thm weapons look dumb though, but not cause they're glowing.

once there are other primals and a variety of weapons it will really give the game some character, instead of a game were everyone wears either scail male or an alpine.

I'm not a fan of glowing weapons, but the bow and the staff are nice... the lance is aweful '>.> but well, i'm not gonna argue about personal taste.

Btw, is it me or the passive/active mode animation has been sped up?

Don't listen to the haters, they look great and are exactly in line with what I would consider the Final Fantasy style to be. Ever since Cloud's slab of steel in 7, the weapon design has been open to daring and fun items such as these.

Needs to reduce the size of the Pugilist and Archer weapons. They're practically comical in size.

Everything is subject to change at this point. They probably released the video just to get feedback before releaseing :).

It's not that you get over them, they do look bad to some people, I still hope for a toggle so I can hide those quest markers and have them only show on the mini map.
I just feel that once you have made you opinion clear, within a week or so of comments dev's tend to decide if it goes on the to do later list or not.

I'm aware this would never happen, But I would love to see a toggle to replace Silly wow like weapons/armour and replace it with the current style or a style more FF like (imo) close to what we have now.

I'm ok with the effect on the weapon, ok I didn't want and still don't want glowing stuff, but clearly were getting it, but its not as bad as it could have been.
Its the size/shape of the weapons i have issue with, they are just chunky and meh, the weapons on that magazine cover look 100x better.
An look back over recent/older FF games and you can see much better designs that are much more Fantasy then those that would actually fit in with the current world.

oh and the Empire stuff looks great imo, same style just more advanced then us.

The art direction of FF7 =/= the art direction of FF14.
In fact, the closest style I would relate to it would be Final Fantasy Tactics (especially considering the artist).

I just don't feel the weapons match the aesthetic of the rest of the game very well.

Wow that sceptre is so awful! Now that my opinion is over with, I'm still pumped. I agree with Murugan, they're lack of using the incapacitation has led me to meet people who don't even believe it matters to use it or not now. They could of had a really good thing, of course you could still get the drop without incapping it would just be 30-40% harder, or something akin to that. I just wonder why they would drop one of the only things in their game that adding any strategy. Maybe when battle regimens come back fixed (lets hope), they will have some incap system inherent in them. They said BR would be more epic maybe finisher moves, I'm thinking they want to capture the attention of those who wanted a limit break or a overdrive type deal (not 2 hour). But what about a middle tier BR that adds different incaps, varying in percentage of loot drop. So an incap that takes 3-4 people to do lasts longer and is more likely to drop gear that a 1-2 person incap.

Having played FFX this month, it is the brotherhood sword, its blue with kind of a little hook at the end and it glows, but not outward glow, its an inward glow, much like the ifrit weapons except its more like those glitter water things they put in plastic with like mini tourist sites made of plastic, god what are those called, i had one when I was like 5 and adults broke it accidentally 3 mins after I bought it. Wow that was actually sad kinda :/

But anyway Wakka gives you this sword early on, with their weapon customization system honestly, best sword in the game, like for real, doing like 8k dmg to peeps at the end if you pretty much leveled up your people ridiculously.

NOTE: ITS ALL ABOUT LULU in that game, I don't think she should of had sex with Wakka :/ I wouldn't be a badass blm who listens to my bady daddy talk in a fake hawaiian accent all day. As a hawaiian that accent was so offensive! I wish FF would have an option like other jrpgs to change the voice acting to japanese and just put subtitles on, then I feel like I'm watching anime. Whatever dilly dally shilly shally (debatable!)

About the "Hard mode", it might be a raid AFTER you beat the main scenario mission. I think it can be compared to the 3 tiers of FFXi prime fights...one made for solo, one for party and one for alliance...might be the same here...a pretty easy fight at main scenario quest that would unlock the "real" fight...most likely FFXI Diabolos fight.

I would honestly expect nothing less from weapons obtained from essentially the God of Fire. The weapons glow like an ember, that's pretty tame IMO. The only other way to really convey fire would be to physically set the weapons ablaze, I think this is the better approach. If the effects were any more subtle then they would be quite dim and would just essentially be black weapons.

The current equipment is far too bland for my tastes. I always justified it as being the base equipment and essentially just what they're throwing at us until the cool stuff comes up. I was pretty disappointed with Flametongue being just a normal sword, it should have had some kind of indication of its namesake, you know like how it is traditionally in FF. Excusing the current gear's bland look as "artistic direction" is a pretty lame excuse. The gear we have now is recycled over and over and occasionally changed slightly. Going back to Flametongue, it's just a slightly modified version of another sword we currently have.

The game needs more unique looking gear, and if that means the weapons from the God of Fire have an ember glow, I'm okay with that. The weapons should convey the power and look of the boss they come from.

i think its safe to say it wont be too hard for story mode reason(gotta cater to the casual, and it should for story mode). so hardcore im thinking would be after story-mode.

Hmm... I didn't know about FFXI having solo > group > alliance style unlock..
Guess if its just for loot after the story/solo part saves me going again, unless i'm forced to have that bow for specific things later on.

- Glow is ok cos its only when active and not to OTT.
- Lancer weapon looks good it actually has the look of other lances just Fancier..
- All others need to be smaller/less Fat to fit with the style of the game.
(An Seriously with the bow and Pug weapons ... Epic Fail on the chunkiness length is ok I think maybe..! )
- As long as we dont go the way of the huge shoulder pads next its not too bad.
