Yoshi P, please use future development time on content other than Hildibrand.

At the very least push hildebrand to 100% optional content like the moogle mail quests. It was annoying to skip through all those cutscenes to re-unlock trial roulette, twice. Of course, we're likely going to have to suffer through another dozen quests to unlock the golden saucer.

That's how I feel about it, really. Sometimes I go out to that zombie gentlemen event because it's hysterical. I mean, who comes up with a zombie event where the mobs occasionally just stop attacking so they can flex? The whole questline from beginning to now was just so entertaining. I don't think it would be a good idea to start gutting that kind of content from the game. Ideally they should be able to develop both. I can't imagine that YoshiP truly said it would be one or the other. That must be a mistranslation or misinterpretation on the OP's part.

Hildebrand is literally the only thing in this game that has made me laugh out loud while I'm alone. It's hilarious and enjoyable, which is why so many people continue to ask for more. It's so nice to be able to take a break from grinding mindlessly for new shinies to refresh myself with some lighthearted humor and funny homages.

i did the 1st hildy line and thought it was pretty lame. Now I /sigh every time he's in the patch notes because it's just going to waste my time running around this dumb quest line skipping CSs. I wish they would at least separate it from the trial roulette, but now I have to sit through this junk every patch to get my roulette back. It's really getting old and annoying. I don't play ffxiv for over the top goofball humor and stupidly stretched faces in cut scenes. Please spend those dev hrs on ANYTHING else.

Anyone who says less Hildibrand is a joyless person.

I find that this here expresses my point of view about the Hildebrand quests. When I first did them, I found them to be campy (which I'm not a fan of) and I found that I mostly skipped through the cutscenes. The humor in the questline just isn't for me and a lot of the missions are like the main quest missions where it's a lot of go here, no go there, stand here, go back here, go back there. NOW watch your cutscene of progression. ENJOY HIS FUNNY FACES! OMG, IT'S SO FUNNY!!! WE'RE FUNNY, RIGHT!?

...Yeah... It's just not my type of fun and the plot line just never pulled me in. Now that his questline though keeps going and they keep involving the trial roulette, I found it to be pretty annoying. I accepted it for Gilgamesh but when Ultros came out...eeeehhh, I ended up just not getting my trial roulette back until way late.

It was also disappointing when it turned out the Gold Saucer was attached to Hildebrand...

I'm not like the OP though where I would like things like Savage Coil to be worked on. I would prefer more time taken for the main quest line to be something other than a boring series of "go-to" quests and easy dungeons. I would prefer everything to be developed to the same standard that the Hildebrand questline is, honestly. I'd prefer some time taken to develop truly original things that don't involve any past FF titles. I know people have a nostalgia thing going on with them but ST/CT/WoD would be infinitely more fascinating to me if it wasn't content that they just pulled in. I wish this game would get MORE original content.

So yeah, I know that the people will have Hildebrand continue. That's what I have to deal with. It's not my cup of tea though and I'm tired of them forcing him on me to get my roulette back.

Edit: My only real suggestion for this would be to make the Hildebrand questline like coil. Completely optional. Any Coils aren't needed to unlock any roulette. Hildebrand shouldn't be either.

So what you're saying is they should stop wasting time with casual/fun quests and devote all their time to hard core raids and such? Sounds like you should try Wildstar. That game chased away all casual players and embraced the hardcore. I understand it worked out really well for them. >_>

Dislike button is needed. Just for this topic. HILDIBRAND~ <3 I really enjoy his quests, they add some fun. I'm always sad when we get an update with no Hildy.

I tried Wildstar 1 month after it came out and there was literally no one. :D Thats probably what happens when you cater only to one group of comunity. :)))

Get rid of Hildibrand and you get rid of the Mandeville gold saucer too. It plays a massive part in FFXIV in fact id go as far to say that Gilgamesh and Ultros are probably the most FUN battles in the game. People that want to rid the game of that type of content should probably stop playing games as they are taking it far too seriously. It's a game, go have fun.

Hildibrand should be a Grand Company IMO.

Many people here understand it, they just think that Hildy is worth the resources.

I thoroughly enjoy the Hildibrand content and hope that they keep up with either it or something like it. It is a nice tonal departure from the rest of the content and I like variety of content to play, not just more of the same. Things like the Gold Saucer, Hildebrand, etc. add variety to the game and are welcome additions imo.
While things like these may not appeal to everyone and some may feel that it is a waste of resources, based on my experience and observation, far more people like it than do not.

I personally enjoy the Hildibrand storyline. Its a nice break from the main story, and the fights are more fun. I dont think I would ever do Savage Coil.

God no. Hildibrand's questline is amongst the best produced pieces of content in the entire game. It's a fantastic addition.

I tried to like the Hildy quests..I just couldn't.

I see no problem in making them an optional thing, but don't make me have to go through them to unlock anything else in future :<

It's ironic how this thread exploded with support for continued Hildibrand content. Aside from one or two borderline trolls, the loudest objections are "I don't care for it" and "Don't make it part of Trial Roulette."

I like Hildi content well enough, but it's what I do after I've experienced everything else new in a patch. Hildi quests are fun palate-cleansers, especially when most everything else is fairly serious business. When you're in the mood for a farce, they do the job.

Exactly! I like the hildibrand content. It's a great distraction and good for a laugh.

That said, the idea of the team that does Hildirand developing a raid sounds kind of awesome. Assuming they apply the same mindset and level of difficulty that they use for the Hildibrand questline.

I'll bite since WHS has not responded. It comes down to culture; this quest lines use humor and stereotypes that would make sense to people familiar with Japanese culture. The fact that Godbert walks around with little clothing, there's all that posturing and talk about being a gentleman, etc, could all be construed as homosexual to people who have not experienced it before. Personally, I came across this while reading the Oh My Goddess series, so while I am by far no expert in Japanese culture, I know enough to know Godbert is a sterotype. Maybe someone more immersed in the culture to speak.

First thing to do when you play an Eastern game, learn a bit about Eastern culture. Their games, their culture, their references and comical situations. I thought that was a given >_>

If I had to guess (and remember I am speaking on behalf of these people), Godbert's lack of clothing and all the posturing would be the areas that could be construed at homoerotic/homosexual.

Godbert is a little too manly to fall into American gay stereotypes, too, IMO. Maybe it stems from the quest in the storyline where you have to oil Godbert up. If you play a female character it's not gay, but if you play a male character it could be awkard if you forget that it's just a game. ;)

You may be right that that's the issue. I'm on the same page as you (not offended and not taking it as homoerotic). I'm not overly familiar with eastern culture and I took it as just absurdist humor. He's nearly naked and suplexing giant monsters and offing Chimera, a beast that is a pain in the rear for us to fight, with an artisan tool. He runs fast enough to destroy the landscape so he can smash his errant son into the dirt head first. It just seemed like they were going for absurdly funny to me.

I, or one, would prefer if they used further development time into making more Hildibrand quests and arenas. Yoshi Plz.

Hildibrand is a nice diversion and it has some of the best quests and cutscenes in the game. What I'd like is that they'd make its Trial battles actually worth running more than once and not have them become outdated pretty quickly, but that's really a flaw with the whole game itself. Outside of the one time you have to do Gilgamesh for the story and maybe sometimes for farming light, and once you do Ultros for the story and then get your minion there's no real reason or motivation to do them ever again, which is a shame because they're fun. We'll see what happens with Greg EX.

They follow a trope
They have the whole gentle giant thing going on. Big dudes with good intentions, slightly slower in the head, but so damn manly clothing can not contain them. They are proud of there bodies!
When push comes to shove though that gentle side vanishes and out comes the beast.

Usually the sexuality is intentionally left ambiguous but Godbert is a little less questionable because he has a son and a wife.
