Recently, Yoshi P. said that whether or not the Hildibrand questline continues into 3.0 is up to the players. I am personally of the opinion that development time could better be used on things than an optional questline.

To illustrate what I mean by this, please look at the patch 2.5 trailer and information slides we saw at Fanfest in Japan. Hildibrand is continuing to be implemented all throughout 2.5, but Savage Final Coil appears to not have materialized. This means that when the choice was made, Hildibrand was placed higher on the totem than Savage Final Coil. Savage Second Coil, while not done by many players, was definitely hours upon hours of content that could be tackled (and still can be). Overall, I think this makes the game's content more rich from a purely time based perspective. I guess what I am trying to say is that I think developing something like Savage Coil adds more to the game from a content perspective than a set of optional cutscenes.

Hildebrand appeals to a much much much much much (xAlot) wider portion of the playerbase than Savage Coil, it's a no brainer why Hildebrand would take precedence.

I love the Hildebrand stuff, but I think it needs more relevance to the storyline. Like I do enjoy the callbacks to other FF games from it, but it's seems like the "optional" aspect of it results in less people willing to queue for it. I waited more than 70 minutes (initially short two DPS, then short 1 tank, and then short one dps, then short 1 tank, after it popped several times without commencing.)

I am fairly certain the people working on the Hildibrand aspects of the game are not the same working on Savage Coil.

You've got people that haven't even beaten Second Coil, people that haven't even beat First Coil, and you think Savage Final Coil is going to draw enough players to make it worthwhile? Hildibrand is very widely loved. He was in the 1.x FFXIV, and ARR launched and he wasn't there, so many people were asking for him to return they made a whole ongoing questline.

Even if it's just a bit of lighthearted fun, I'd prefer Hildibrand over anything.
