Or they can just finally put in the real man's WS, Asuran Fists.
I dont get why everyone wants to reuse everything from XI lol.... let Asuran fist stay there
Your sig has convinced me to buy FFXIII, just for the sake of experiencing baby chick chocobos and a guy with an afro in a final fantasy game, even if everyone says it's bad.
I'll be the judge of that for myself.
Back on topic: Familiarity does help sometimes, as S.E said when they made FFXIV, they used characters resembling FFXI to give returning players the familiarity of the races they enjoyed, whilst also giving the game different playing mechanics so that it would feel more like a new FF Online game and not a FFXI sequal.
That being said, if they were to put in attacks and skills from FFXI, many people would praise it and be thankfull, and many people would rage that they were just making FFXI-2.
There is no middle ground sadly...
Asuran Fists = Simian Thrash practically.
but anyhoo, I am still in confusion as to why they would choose PUG to be MNK over THF, because the fact remains, there are only a couple abilities that PUG does that ties in with how MNK is. Also, with how the PUG guild is, they more resemble how THFs would play. Plus, most of the abilities (Apart from Second wind and H2H abilities) tie in with how a THF would play, but then again, this is FFXIV, not FFXI-2....at least not yet.
I think they maybe following the logic that Pugilists don't really use weapons as such, they're hand to hand specialist just like monks, so it'd make more sense that hand-to-hand class > hand-to-hand job. Also since jobs will be able to use the abilities of the class they came from, a thief may look a bit unusual mimicking a Pugilists animations with daggers, unless of course jobs get seperate animations for the same skills as the class they came from.
I know where they're coming from, PUG being MNK doesn't feel right to me, though, I believe if they have the multi class jobs THF would more than likely be ARC and PUG.
EDIT: Also, Eviscerate and Asuran Fists were similar in amount of hits and the flash, just weapons and the motions through them were different. Also, when it comes to logic and SE witht heir games, you might as well say 2 + 2 = Rock.
I can see the PUG + ARC = THF. Archers tend to be sneaky and stay in the shadows, attacking at good opportunity, Pugilists specialise in close-range fighting with lots of evasion, put them together and you get a Thief in all regards.
Hmm... taking the PUGs evasion-based combat style, I can see a lot of sense now in it becoming a Thief. Monks never really had that evasion mechanic come to think of it, they were just hard-hitting hand-2-handers.
But then what other class could they use to become a Monk?
That's why i was referring to the ARC + PUG, because SE would have nothing else to come from it, this is due to lack of competence in the original FFXIV team, had it been Yoshida from the start, we might be in a different position, but then again, thanks to this fail we have somewhat of a team that sorta listens to a community.
Are you kidding me? Pugilists have been tanking both since Darkhold launched. They also can proc after evading an AOE or another mob, and have a skill called taunt which specifically focuses the target on them for 1-2 hits. How much have you played a pugilist?
I'd still be fine with them making Simian Thrash I guess, but evade counters are a big part of how Pugilist is played. I'd rather our evade counters were just even more powerful to compensate.
Hate to necro this thread but when are we gonna reduce the purple flash on this skill it really hurts my eyes.
