Maybe you also practice something else called psychological devaluation.
I'll touch up on your rogue/ninja. My opinion of why the class is rogue? Serves as a perfect class to implement Thief later in the future if they decide too. just like how Archer would be perfect for Ranger. (Arcanist= SMN/SCH) Typically they are going to use Classic FF jobs for new jobs that come out it, was the trend in FFXI and it is the trend in FFXIV. However Corsair is a FFXI exclusive job, it appears in no other FF title. SO they may release an entirely new job. However I don't think they are going to butcher the Cecil Dark Knight model... Ever.
Except they've explicitly stated that Rogue is Thief, simply with a different name. There are multiple different sources that actually point to this as well. They also said they have no current plans on adding a job that will branch from an existing class.
http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2...DRK_(FFXI).png
They already did.
Gunblade would fit the Dark Knight model much better than a scythe does, but I suppose this is a matter of opinion, isn't it?
Boomstick.
Dark Knight having a scythe like the grim reeper is soooo unfitting xD and Dark Knight having a future weapon is sooo relevant to a dark arts goth knight themed class. okay gotcha.
Garlean Gun class? sure...
It being FFXIVs DRK? not a chance...
You mean the future weapons that already exist within the realm of Eorzea?
The future weapon that a character seeking the power of darkness wields?
The scythe that is actually a farmers tool and is in game already for Botanists?
It's hardly future technology. It's grabbing a sword and slapping a gunpowder device onto it. It isn't even conceivable in any sort of scientific sense, which is why it's fantasy.
There's even already a basis for what sort of skills the player could have with a gunblade. Given Irvine's various bullets in FF8 and the Magic Junction system, it isn't inconceivable for the Dark Knight to be some sort of debilitating Job, which is what it was in XI wasn't it? (I haven't played XI so I am not laying that out as solid info).
It doesnt matter if Eorzea has future weapons. Just listen to yourself lol. The only classic job on 14 whos weapon is not their classic weapon is BRD and there is historical reasoning as to why Bard uses a bow in this game. It has to do with the origins of Bards in history. Summoner also doesnt use a classic weapon but its really irrelevant they just held place holder staves. SE will stick to the style of Dark Knight as it is a Dark Knight and it is not a future weapon wielding job. This would be like if the Garleans had light sabers and so Paladins had them... Ridiculous fantasy, not final fantasy.
Honestly I hope everything to do with Garleans disappears by 3.0 because there was enough Star Wars Empire rip off in FF12 (Arcadian Empire) and its ridiculous they wash/repeated it for 14.
You hope in vain, then. They still have Ala Mihgo under their control and Castrum Oriens still sits in the Black Shroud without having anything done with it. We won't be done done with them fully anytime soon even if in the current line of the story they're not active.Quote:

DRK in XI was debilitating, if you wanna call it that. Then it was the lolDRK instead of lolDRG (that eventually came around as well). But it was a heavy DPS job with some dark magic thrown in there, not very powerful but it was there. Mainly Absorb spells, drains, and spikes. There were elemental spells, but, well you can imagine. That's what BLM's are for ^.^
Dark Knight
RDM had access to guns during vanilla FFXI. Much like PLD there could use axes and great axes when zilart came out. There was something of a jobs revamp at one point, where RDM lost a lot of the stuff it started with (Flash, access to guns) and was turned into the lolenfeebler/refreshbot we know today. This said, guns were VERY minor in FFXI if your class was not Ranger, and even then sparsely used due to how expensive ammo could be. As such, I wouldn't use it as a sign of things to come here. It's a possibility, but one I hope is VERY unlikely.
Which is a female variation of this character's outfit from Tactics Ogre. Yes it looks awesome and I agree that XIV's designers should take some inspiration from this design for the RDM aesthetic (they owe us after the horrible outfits from that third FFXIII game and Bravely Default), but the gun is a very minor detail in the greater whole. Something that should not happen to a gun-centered class.
Honestly, if you talk to me about musketeer, I often think of this. Despite it being from Granado Espada, the outfit design would very easily fit into Limsa's aesthetic with few, if any, adjustments.
Aliquis, I think your idea is cool, but you are giving out way to much bias towards what you want to see (which it's fine, you're the OP and it's essentially your thread and your ideas). It's more than likely not going to go that way, if they continue to go through with their earlier plans for Musketeer:
Live Letter III -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...SH2jkjw#t=925s
Well to this you might say, "Oh, but he didn't go into detail when he said 'dual-wield,' so it could still mean a rapier and a gun." Here is where visual context means much more. Click on the link -- it will take you to the exact moment where he explained dual-wielding with Musketeer. In his very short explanation, he goes on to talk about how Musketeers use a double-barreled gun with both hands, but if they want to dual-wield, it's also cool too. Look closely when he mentions dual-wielding, he puts up both of his hands and makes trigger fingers in a cowboy-esque manner, implying that it would be dual-wielding guns. Ironically, in the 2.2 cutscene "The Sea Rises" we are treated to a scene depicting dual-wield gun slinging by the Admiral herself.Quote:

Y: We don’t have a set date but we are talking about ninja’s, samurai’s and all that so we’re thinking of adding something that’s balance but at this time we haven’t decided yet on which.
Y: For musketeer say for example the gear has left hand, right hand and you want to duel gun we have the system setup so those will work when we do release stuff like that.

Musketeer is planned for after that and also thinking of duel gun
Considering how the system works right now (and how they want to plan the jobs that dual wield weapons), it obviously won't play how they depicted it in 2012, so it's very possible that you will get two guns as your main slotted weapon, similar to how Rogue/Ninja will work. I personally have no problems with it being implemented how you depicted it, but it would severely detract from what they envisioned from this Live Letter.Quote:
Q7: When will musketeer be implemented?
A7: Including samurai and ninja, we are currently at the stage where we are looking into which we would like to add next, so we haven’t yet decided on the specifics. However, in the future we are imagining dual wield and double barrel guns, so please look forward to it!
Anyone stating that it will be a gunblade is too far off the mark. He's for years now stated that it would be double barreled pistols, not gunblades.
Terrible argument. Musketeer isn't around simply because Yoshi-P and his team deemed it more necessary to include a Pet (Arcanist) and a Scout (Rogue) class in the base vanilla game before anything else. He's accomplished this fact with 2.4, so now they can look forward to implementing Musketeer and any other number of jobs they are cooking up now. I can show you referential material stating this if you want, but it's so easy to extract from Google if you go looking for it.
Would just like to point out that Paladin already needs to get two weapons to be effective. They use their shield for attacks so it is classified as a weapon in my book. They could come up with a way for it to be balanced. I have a few rough ideas that I came up with in the 30 seconds since I read your post. Given a few weeks, a game developer could come up with a pretty good system.
I always assumed it was just going to use Cid's primary weapon, just as Yugiri was a tease for Ninja, Cid in the Syrcus Tower cutscenes is a tease for Gunhaver.
They already announced what the new gun class was going to be, it'll be a DoH job called hobbyist, using a hot glue gun to attach rhinestones to your armor.
the gunner class is going to be blue mage
^This guy obviously knows nothing about RDM today. RDM is not a refresh whore. RDM generally gets used in Delves(being in the 2nd party and the only member in the second party) where yes they enfeeble but they also nuke to remove auras and they are the only ones who rely on their Refresh II. Also RDM now gets Haste II that no other class gets but GEO who has their own version. Another spell is Frazzle and Frazzle II that boosts Range attack speed. BRD is the one who gives out the "Refresh" with x3 Ballads giving up to a 30+ mp/tick refresh where RDMs refresh II is 8/tick. EDIT: Oh cor gives refresh with Evokers rolls also
Also COR is a decent DPS with their gun. Since COR often gets brought along for their roles it is highly expected that they contribute with DMG when they are not rolling.
What you know of FFXI at all is of YESTERDAY.
I'm not going to even bother with this guy because of this...

I'm pretty sure the whole speal of what we are NOT expecting is that its not going to fall along the earlier plans and details abotu musketeeer.
Cheeeeemmmiiisssssttttt. It should be Chemist!
Please oh please oh please!
Yoshi P. said it would be something nobody expected, eh?
I'm calling it-
Bandolier slung around their body, cannon hanging from their back, and enough guns strapped in all the right places you would think their armor is their weapon, the gunslinger enters the fight.
I.E. a overly armed FFXIV version of Rambo.
Plain to see to me that a new job HAS to involve guns. They've subtly hinted at various other jobs throughout the years, after all, and we have the following weapons used by NPCs in game with no class associated:
Guns (Merlwyb, female Garlean that we kill, a lot of Garleans period, Cid is probably capable as well)
Hammers (KINDA Nero, plus the fact that they haven't copped out and had hammer skins for MRD/WAR)
Two-handed swords
Scythes (I really hope they save this one for many years down the road, though)
My personal expectation is, since it's going to be "unexpected," the gun wielding class will be a tank class.
Right, and everyone is just supposed to believe your half-random ideas.
OK man, but at least I'm going off of old legitimate facts that were said by the devs themselves. It has more of a basis than your stuff.
BTW I had already mentioned the stuff I posted was old already. However it still holds a basis. Especially when you see some of their ideas come out in a cutscene in 2.2.
Gunner branching off to Red and Blue mage
Please look forward to it (`・ω・´)”
Whatever it is the guild will be downstairs from the Coral tower, I mean, the sign is already there.
I believe Yoshida has stated several times that he is not eager to implement Blue Mage in this game because they are not MMORPG friendly or something. Perhaps someone could pull up the quote.
The same thing can be said of Red Mage though in that this MMO in particular is heavily designed around the specialisation of roles in a party. True Red Mages lack specialisation and nudging the class to favour any single role above others will piss off at least half the RDM fanboy club - because those people don't understand compromise.
My vote is for Chemist as a Healer or Corsair/Fusilier as DPS.
