I can't believe some responses to this thread. So our purpose is to procreate so being gay is wrong? So I guess being single all your life is wrong too? What if you never want a partner? Heck why am I not pregnant right now, it's apparently my purpose in life. I couldn't even read through a lot of these posts, for a similar reason to what Ryndael pointed out. Can we get some positivity up in here?? lol. I'm straight and this is something I really want to see once the wedding service is implemented.

Why is this topic even up for discussion!? What if somebody started the same debate about inter-racial marriages? They'd be banned within seconds. Honestly do you think gay people think that some of your "I don't have a problem with it" comments are some kind of treats from heaven?

Cells don't know race, color, or sex and genes don't know likes, dislikes, attitude, thoughts, etc. My college has actually been doing research on this "gay gene" nonsense and currently, there is no evidence to support the claim that it exists. Hence, there is no such thing as being "born gay." Therefore, it IS a choice. I have no problem with it at all, but people need to understand that you can't be born one way or the other. And where's the evidence to support that it doesn't exist? Has your college managed to completely map human DNA and knows all its secrets? Why aren't you curing cancer then?

This is just like the "God" argument. We have little evidence to prove that it exists and that, alone, is evidence towards proving that it doesn't. No, we haven't completely mapped the DNA sequences, BUT, seeing as how all other life choices are based off of your environment, who you surround yourself with and what not, the same can be said about your choice of sexuality. But, if people want to keep arguing this, apparently, if you are a criminal, it is because you are born a criminal. If you are a rockstar, it is because you were born a musician. If you are an artist, it is because you were born an artist. If you like red-heads, it is because you were born liking red-heads. All of these are choices, as is sexuality. As far as the snide little curing cancer comment, we know how it evolves and we know how to stop it from evolving, if caught early enough, but we don't know how to stop it from forming in the first place. I have never been attracted to a female in my 24 years. I doubt I ever will. I never woke up one day and made any life-altering decision. It's as simple as that.

True, but I can say the same thing about my taste in music, my taste in women, my taste in religions. It doesn't just change over night and I'm not saying anything is wrong with your choice at all, so please don't take it like that. What I'm saying is that you don't just wake up one day and say "Hey...I want to be gay" or "hey, I hate rap music" or "hey, religion is for the weak!" No...things don't happen like that. Same goes for your choice of attire. You don't just swap from one style to another. You experiment and see what you like better and THEN make your decision. If you're into thick jackets, bluejeans and converse, you won't suddenly go BAM! I'm going to shave my head, wear a tank-top and a speedo with wooden clogs! At what point did this thread become a place for this argument. The FFXIV forums arent really a place to be having this debate. The OP was just commenting on whether or not it should be allowed in FFXIV. It doesnt matter whether you agree on a personal RL level.

That said, there's no reason not to include such an option. In FFXI, i knew several people who played the opposite gender so that they could be married. Why not give them the option.

That's a good point to bring up. What if a guy is playing a female character, and becomes really close friends with another player who is female in real life and on the game? I doubt the guy would want to start a new character just to get married.

It started on the first page with people bringing their personal feelings into it. You're right in that people should stick to why they feel it will affect the game itself.

Will they be forcing you to have a same sex marriage (or get married at all)? No. So therefore will it change gameplay dramatically for anyone? For no reason that I can foresee.

Either give us the option to marry whomever we wish or dont give us the option to marry at all. For that matter, just include a crafted wedding ring that doesnt affect slot cost and we can handle the weddings ourselves.

which is what I was getting at in the first place. Since people will get butthurt either way, why not just keep the topic of marriage out of FFXIV to begin with? I mean come on...if I sign my life away in the real world, why would I want to do it in a game? But seriously, keeping marriage out of the game completely would be the best option for SE.

Maybe it doesn't need to be called marriage or wedding, I mean, it's the 'Starlight celebration', not Christmas. It could be binding of hearts or something like that xD (I'm cheesy) But on a personal level, I feel that's sort of pandering to the people who are unnecessarily offended so I don't much like it. But either way it gets it done and kind of fits in with how they do things right now.

I also quite like Leenks idea of handling it ourselves. If they gave us lots of functions to make our own events, like supplies, areas, decorations, and then a ring we can craft names onto, we can organise it ourselves ^^. As well as lots of other fun stuff.

I knew i was gay way before I even knew what that meant. Haven't you had a crush on any of your classmates when you were 6? Well I have. I had a crush on a boy that played with me during all the breaks between classes. We skipped rope played with he other girls and did exactly what other gay kids do. When he moved to another city I waited him to appear to our favorite spot every morning before the school started for a year. I was 7 at that point.

Turning this into a discussion about just sex is just degrading. I love my boyfriend because I'm in love with him. I honestly hope he doesn't read these forums because this would probably be horribly disappointing for him to read. Many gay people are under the illusion that RPG players are a bit less judging as the rest of the population as they're already doing something not so socially acceptable as playing a MMO. Obviously there is no escaping ignorance anywhere.

I'm sure none of you woke up one day and made the "life changing decision" to be straight, asian, black, gay or blue-eyed.

I honestly don't even care about his genetic business even though it's a proven fact that gays and straights have even physically different sweat. (ew) I don't care.

Nothing justifies the prejudice going on here and SE certainly shouldn't enforce it because in this day and age you cannot get away with playing ignorant.

We have to hide in normal life 24/7 and I can tell you it's absolutely exhausting. Don't make us do that especially in a videogame that's supposed to be about fun and playing together with others.

Again, not the place for this argument. We dont need to know about your sexual preferences. In the end, this is simply a topic about adding more content that doesnt have to be combat related. Something extra for RPers and the like. It's like having the seats in each town and on the boats where we can /sit down. Completely unnecessary, but kinda cool nontheless.

There's actually a number of NPCs in game that will mention their love/passion for another same-sex NPC, and a bunch of NPCs who will flirt with you regardless of your sex, so the lore actually supports pretty much every option.

Well, some people are in the game for actual RPing(I don't really know how that works on a videogame with predifined limits), and some people are couples or are married in real life and might want that to reflect in-game. Some people just do it for shits and giggles and others are just curious.

There are plenty of valid reasons.

Maybe you could get reduced tax benefits for the market wards if they added it. :p

Most MMORPGS have some kind of wedding service. We can have this discussion now, or down the road when they inevitably add it. If you don't agree with things being said in the topic, or even including a wedding service in the first place, no one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to read and post.

As I said before, since it is so controversial and SE will end up offending SOMEONE with it's implementation, it may as well just not be put into the game.

the fact is that it won't be just a 1 time thing. Once someone gets married, in the game, they usually flaunt it like they would in real life. My analogy pertains to this more than yours. Yours involves the wedding, mine involves the after effect. If a wedding system is implemented at all, it will split the people in half. If they make it same sex, a lot of straight people are going to be disgusted, but if they make it only for straight couples, the homosexuals will be offended...which is nothing new. Not to knock anyone or anything...but I have yet to see 1 homosexual guy that wasn't a complete pud and is offended by everything -.-
