Not even close. Finishing fates at least yields you something, however miniscule the gil and seals rewards are. Additionally, you can level up your chocobo or queue for duty while doing atma while you can't even go get a drink for fear of missing out on a fate that will most likely be zerged down in 30 seconds. Its also not 1 fate, but 27 in total in addition to killing 900 mobs, 27 dungeons and 300 brayflox runs. Maybe you like to stand around doing nothing, but I like to keep myself active and doing mindless fates beats staring at your screen for hours never knowing when its going to spawn. I'll take atma any day.

I feel like being picky, so... 270 brayflox runs, if you insist on only doing that for the necessary myths.
I think I have done brayflox maybe 30-40 times during the weeks until I got my Animus weapon...

because the majority of the player base has not achieved animus weapons they decided to delay releasing more zodiac quests till the next major patch instead of today, which means that if your one of the unlucky ones that can't find a group to clear T5 or Titan EM or any of the other extremes your likely not going to be able to get a comparable weapon to those who can... well no shit people don't have the weapon... I don't have a lot of time to spend grinding 1500 myth per book and then proceeding to wait 2-3 hours here and there waiting for a fate to spawn... I do have a life outside of the game... I thought this was supposed to be casual gamer friendly?

Just got my first book (yep, I'm casual, sorry).

Been out at Coerthas for 40 mins. I know it's only 40 minutes (compared to this thread) 2 Bellyfulls and at least two Svara series have completed. Of course, not my fate. Still waiting.

EDIT: it's supposed to pop at Stone Vigil right? That's where I'm standing, but watching map as well. By the way, no one else is standing here lol

It's right outside Stone Vigil yes.
And it has a long respawn timer mainly because outside of books, that FATE is never done since it's a hassle to reach anyway.

By design: you have to get gold on the book fate.

Honestly, I think this one does need some help. After a couple of failed attempts to get there from Dragonhead (I even shouted politely asking them to hold it, only to have people reply quite rudely), I simply grabbed a bunch of crafting mats and sat in Whitebrim watching anime online and doing leves until it popped. I believe it took around three hours. Enmity of my Enemy over in the East Shroud took around the same amount of time.

Some of these were just poor choices, unless they're actively TRYING to make us waste time this way.

Day 2 still waiting for fate.
Day 3 - fate popped but due long sitting and doing nothing my bard cant move blame cold and same sitting position.

How can this possibly be true? For days I've watched everything but this pop (MULTIPLE times), even when there are no FATES to speak of in the zone. Even with RNG there is no way this FATE has the same pop conditions as the others in Coerthas. Even Four Winds has popped 3 times as I camp and write this.

Spent 3 hours waiting on a Friday night and no luck. 8:30am got me this fate and enmity of my enemy back to back. I got my 3rd one at 9:30am.

This fate was a nightmare.. Waited for it for days till friday it poped for me and then around 30 to 45 minutes later I got enmity for my enemy. Dreading the fates part of every book now ._.

My best advice for Seps is to have an alt job in the 35+ range to do surrounding fates while you wait.

I got two levels on DRG in a fate pty before seps spawned. Makes waiting for the fate much more productive.

I think you need to kill the dragonfly closest to the dungeon to trigger it. some kind of place holder mechanic.

I did that and killed two closest dragonflies and in less than 5 minutes, Giant Seps popped ! I am sure it is all coincidence.

Do you really have to get gold on them also? Weird there was no mention of this in game.

The Books clearly state "finish FATE xyz with highest ranking"... so yes, just riding by and doing a few hit´s wont do it...

A FATE in Coerthas forced me to camp, cause it was over in about 25 seconds ^^ (4 ppl waiting there, for a realy rare FATE, so difficulty was incredibly low on this FATE)

tried with a friend together around 45min. Just killed dragons, around 300 together. Nothing happend. U just had timeluck i guess

I did enough FATE farming to get atma's, now I got to FATE farm just to get the FATE I need for my book to pop? Not going to do it! This is incredibly stupid! I feel royally screwed by this.

Do -not- do what Camate suggests.

I simply got up to use the restroom while waiting for this exact FATE to spawn, in a matter of no more than 3 minutes the fate spawned, and was killed before i returned to my PC. I sat down with the words "FATE Completed" over my screen and had to wait another 2 hours.

Just do the fates close in that area and it will pop eventually.

~2h spawn rate for Seps today.

Just waited over 2 hours for this FATE to spawn. Walked out of the room for literally 3 minutes to use the restroom, and it had spawned and was completed by the time I got back. :mad: Seriousy, f this FATE.

Even better was the other guy who I had been standing with asking the two players who ran up to wait for 1 minute for me to get back before they started. One guy didn't respond at all, the other said "LOL, sucks for him". Strong work there fellas.

In my opinion, this is the kind of transparency that would be HIGHLY useful for anyone who needs a FATE, and knowing what to pick apart to improve the system. They're an element of the game that we really have nothing but guesswork on. But just cycling through them to get one to spawn...? Most of the FATEs we have troubles with are largely overshadowed by beast tribe or quest FATES (like the Crystal Tower ones) that fill the holes immediately. It's a pretty extreme imbalance.

The FATE grind for the Atma was very bad. A complete RNG nightmare for almost anyone doing it. Took me over 300 FATES to get my first Atma. That was finally finished, and now I'm on my 6th Animus book. Once again, the FATES are a very serious issue. The spawn rates of the Animus book FATES were slashed to nothing. I've spent a good 15 hours waiting on FATEs just to complete a book. I'm currently sitting in Southern Thanalan, waiting for the Taken FATE to spawn. Before the Atma/Animus debacle, I would see this FATE DOZENS of times, almost every time I passed through this area. Now, it never spawns. The same can be said for the Breaking Dawn FATE in the Slyphlands. Waited days for it. It used to be up VERY frequently. This is a very, very poor attempt to force players to do unpopular parts of the game. Whereas I could be doing a hundred of things, instead, I must sit here, and wait for a FATE that NEVER spawns.

Why? Because SE declares I MUST do it to complete this book, while DESTROYING any chance of me doing other things to level my character. I can run duties, and in doing so, risk missing the FATE. I could try running other FATES, and risk missing mine. This is a VERY poor method of content. I'm not paying my hard-earned cash to stand around and do absolutely NOTHING while waiting on some idiotic content that I don't like at all. I work for a living, and do not have the time to waste just sitting on my ass doing nothing. Fix this disgusting mess of a system.

This is still ridiculous... waiting for days here and there no pop

Maybe I am lucky, the longest time I waited for the fate for animus quest was 4+ hrs and all other rare fates were about 2 hrs. But this several hrs time is precious to me that have limit time to play after my child sleeps.

I ve waited there for 3 days...then it popped when I was at boulder downs and get there when it was at 65%.I fought and completed the fate. Got Silver, got no credit for book. It doesn't state that it has to be a gold, right? I don't know, maybe I'm wrong but...I think they owe me that credit.

FATEs have to be gold rating. Of all the Fates in the entire animus quest, I'd say Giant Seps is the only one I've seen that seems to earn the most ire. Even before I got my Atma weapon though, I saw Giant Seps at least 3 times while leveling my first class in Cotheras via FATEs. It really does feel that the more people you have clearing FATEs in the area, the faster it'll cycle through new ones.

The thing is that it doesn't feel like they'd pop in a set order, just "pick out of a hat" sort of deal. And with how big cotheras is, I can see how that can lead to Giant Seps being the biggest blockade for the books.

there IS a special condition that makes it pop faster, just murder all the dragon flies for a few (less than 5 sometimes) minutes and it pops. i've done it 4 times (once for book and 3 more to confirm) and these were all within 20 minutes after it had already ended. this was on admantoise. Same with "make it rain", kill plasmids for a bit and it pops.

I just went through this last night.

I was waiting by myself for close to 2 hours, before a few of my FC friends came to help. 3 of us remained near where Giant Seps spawns and we killed everything around the area, while the remaining FC member went off to clear any other FATE he could get to in Coerthas. Finally, nearly an hour later, Giant Seps started...

Why is this FATE made to be so rare and important for progressing through a key part of the game?

It's just one level 40 "boss", and not terribly interesting at that. It seems like a pretty silly game design decision.

I have only a limited amount of time to play this game. I spent months getting all the Atma I needed to upgrade my relic. It was annoying, but I could still queue in for other things and FATE grind for the Atma in between. Now that I'm on the books... *sigh* all I can do is sit on my butt and wait/hope for the FATES I need to pop. Instead of running dungeons with my friends, I'm sitting, doing nothing fun, waiting for a rare FATE to appear. I can't go anywhere, because, I don't want to miss it and continue waiting for even more hours.

SE, PLEASE fix the FATEs needed for the books. Why not have it on a timer, set to pop up every 3 hours? It is insane to ask to us to buy a subscription, then lock us into sitting around doing nothing. Is this your way of getting us to buy more months? I've been around for over a year - I'd much rather pay to play than pay to wait.

This is bull. I understand wanting to create something difficult and time consuming to have players get an ultimate weapon. Totes get it. This fate crap is the worst I've ever had to deal with in any mmo. Who the hell plays a game to just stand around waiting on a special fate to show up or grinds the same fates over and over to get an atma to drop. It's not the idea. Give me epically difficult bosses or raids to finish. Loging into game to stand in coerthas waiting is dumb. And it's been HOURS. You think people in wow or aion or any others are just standing in one spot for hours? See now while I'm waiting I have all this time to rage on a forum ....lol

Just wait there and do something else? I just park my character there and do other things in other windows. You could turn on the speaker volume and go cook a meal or something too.

They have added the Giant Seps FATE to the Daily Hunt mark bills as well, and while I can personally confirm its ridiculously low spawn rate, I was able to ameliorate the waiting by running dungeons with friends, doing quick things in other areas (like the non-FATE daily hunts) and, later, mass slaughtering the Ornery Karakul sheep outside Dragonhead (my FC is gearing up for some massive crafter Spiritbonding & needed mats to craft the Patricians' gear). It was while doing this last bit (along with grabbing the Darksteel Ore spawn when it came up) that the FATE FINALLY popped, and I was able to get to it and get credit for the daily hunt before it was done. Still, having FATEs like this being required for quest progression or daily hunts is pretty ridiculous.

I never understood that kind of reasoning. Are you defending horrible game design that everyone hated 12 years ago because... 12 years ago it was common? Games have evolved and falling back on archaic game design is just sad. One of the reasons I believe Wild Star is such a horrible game is because it decided to ignore a decade worth of advancements in gameplay. Up to this point I would say FFXIV was generally adhering to good design choices, the ATMA grinding was a bit obnoxious but at the very least you could do it on your own time. No one enjoys waiting around for hours to finish up a quest. No one enjoyed HNM farming in FFXI, it was obnoxious and boring and created an atmosphere of volatile players who would do everything in their power to grief and troll the LS that won the pull.

I am sick of FATES, and SE forcing them down my throat every step of the way is becoming rather annoying. Did they forget that we just ran god knows how many FATES to get our ATMA weapon... and now they want us to go and wait on specific FATES. Cruel.
