Dear Yoshi P Tank Mount will not help....

WoW has less tanking problems now but they have 5 very unique tanks. We have 2... one of which is abnormally simple to play. As an added bonus Pld is a really bad tank until around level 40. War has total control from 15+ unless someone in the party is really stupid. Pld has almost no control until 40 and even then it is only if people listen... if not you wont be tanking much.

I also feel that War is far to complicated for the majority of MMO gamers. Pld is simple but there is some people that can't even handle that.

I'm one of these "tanks near 40" they spoke of and while I cannot speak for everyone else I found people started getting quite nasty around the mid 30's. The list is a mile long but to give an example - I was asked to leave my very first Stone Vigil, before the first pull even, so they could get a tank who had experience. I always read up or watched videos multiple times before fights, was always particular about my gear, am usually quite chipper and cracking light jokes, but due to a general negative feeling I ended up leaving Paladin where it sat. There really are no trinkets SE could give me to pick up the job again, the fault really lies in the fact people can be as nasty as they want to someone when they probably will never see them again. After I left Paladin I became a Scholar and I cannot tell you how many different times I've had tanks thank me for being kind and patient with them when they are new. Often I've found out their experiences mirrored my own, which is quite sad.

I'm only a tank because I thought a marauder with an axe was a dd but I was wrong (plus WAR looks badass). But I wished there was more specialized tanks i.e magic tanks.

Duty roulette CM first thing someone says "Finally a non noob tank. Ty for being geared."

This guy had just over half DL and since I was i90 he believed I was "geared" enough for CM. -_-

Why should the tank be the highest geared? Especially for CM. I'd hate to be a new tank and go into dungeons at base ilevel. The amount of crap you would get would be horrible!!

This is my favorite suggestion in this entire thread. Tying it to the Achievement system would be perfect!

A mount is a mount, unless you make a mount thats faster than other mounts, there is no incentive to get said mount. Personally, I still ride my chocobo around, its the same speed as everything else, and I am not really concerned with any other mount.

Now if this game were "Like wow! in the right Areas!!" then there would be normal mounts, and epic mounts. Should an encounter drop an epic mount, (it's faster), I'd want to acquire it.

Except if you made a DPS role for the Tank classes ... People would level them up to be DPS and never Tank ... WoW is a classic example of this, 5 Tank classes, 3 of them can be Healers and DPS also, doesn't help their queue times.

I'd like to see rewards for doing dungeons in all roles, not limited to Tanking.
I'm actually interested in seeing weekly achievements with bonus rewards, in addition to the Achievements we have now.

Tanking is my favorite role! To me, it is the most interesting part of a fight. So, it's just a matter of taste I suppose. I tend to gravitate toward Tanking on every MMO I play. As a Tank, you're responsible for defending your party and maintaining order on the battlefield!

I don't think a mount incentive would be a great idea though. People should play different roles because they enjoy them and a mount should be an an added bonus to that enjoyment, not payment for playing in a way that you don't like.

I agree that a mount won't do much to increase the number of ACTIVE tanks.

Tanking is a thing you have to like.


The sad part is, SE does very little to make people like tanking.
It can be very frustrating and because you are at the front, people will blame you for alot of stuff. Some might even blame you for their own mistakes.

Many fights depend alot on the tank(s) while the other party members don't have to worry about much.
They don't have to worry about aggro. If they get aggro it's the tanks fault.
They don't have to worry about positioning. If the mob moves it's the tanks fault, tanks just stand there and spam hate combo.
If a healer runs out of MP or gets too much hate it's the tanks fault, because he's too weak and requires too much healing (nvm the 3 DDs who got raised because they failed to dodge attacks), or because he didn't use one of his 20 damage mitigation abilities which are always up.

On the other hand, you have the power to make a difference.
If you do a good job your healers will have an easier time and DDs can go all out, making the fight easier and faster for everyone.

I think it would make more people pick up tanks if not 50% of the attacks had the potential to 1-2 hit you.
Make the fights require other mechanics than constant burst healing and CD rotation.
There are only few fights with status ailments that can be cured or enemy buffs which can be dispelled for example.
And how about enemies with more body parts that can be destroyed or incapacitated to prevent the use of certain actions.

Or improve the offensive stances of both tanking classes.
Or give them another completely different stances which support the rest of the party.

As I said at the top of my post, you have to like tanking for playing a tank.
And as long as tanks are just tanks and nothing else, their number will be low, because many players don't like the responsibility.

I've sent your suggestions to mr Yoshida and he told me about this Leviathan he's planning:

- He puts a debuff on you. If you don't Esuna in 3 seconds, it explodes and wipes the party.
- He puts a marker on the ground where if a tank isn't on it, the boat turns and wipes the party.
- He raises his tail up and if you don't tank it, he turns the boat and wipes the party.
- while doing that, be sure to use a cooldown or he'll impale & kill you. Then, of course, he turns the boat and wipes the party.
- He'll aim for the OT + healers and put a mark on the ground, then do a wave that washes you out of the boat. Then he proceeeds to turn the boat and wipe the party.
- Now, finally, the DD mechanic... he starts charging a super tsunami, you have to deal 500 damage on him to interrupt. He casts it again near death, but needs 1000 damage instead.
As an added bonus, if main tank isn't on north and off tank on south when that happens, he'll recover, turn the boat and wipe the party.

what ? until 50 you just stand there spaming flash and regening mana with riot, noone can take aggro from you unless you are full VIT which you should not be tbh
and once you get shield oath, its like 4 flashes and you can go afk

Commenting on the underlined section. I've said it before and believe it to be the case still. The fundamental reason why the FFXIV community has gotten so bad is because of this. If DF was for one-server only, things that happen in DF runs would have reputational consequences. In this game they have none.

If the tank mount is as ugly as the CNJ mount, I can't say it'd incentivize any one. I got the Nightmare; all they did was used the Unicorn, painted it black and lit it's horn on fire. It barely looks like a Nightmare... just a confused unicorn. And the unicorns in this game are the ugliest unicorns I've ever seen.

No, a mount won't incentivize people to play tanks. What we need is for all the people that complain about long queue times and lack of tanks to roll a tank. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. When you whine "but I don't enjoy tank, I want to dps!" just remember that everyone else is saying the same thing, even those people you want to become tanks. Suck it up and take one for the team.

Yeah, I did this. (Well I was healer.. but wanted to try out tanking)... the problem with tanking is it's not fun, it's a struggle against your team holding aggro until 40 (pld), and you get yelled at for any mistake... and the skills are boring. Other than that, it's GREAT!

It doesn't matter if it's boring. All the jobs can, in theory, be viewed as boring. Healing is just playing reverse whack a mole with the Raid Health Bars. I spend most of my time staring at the space surrounding those 8 bars and just enough in the center to avoid stuff.

Point is, people need to stop pretending they are a special snowflake. You wanna play DPS? That's cool. So does every one else. Don't complain about your long queues if you aren't willing to be part of the solution (and roll a Tank). And don't be naive and ask for more servers as part of your DF cluster; all that's going to do is take other servers with a heavily skewed population to DPS and keep your overall proportions heavily skewed to DPS. Your problem isn't solved by adding 50 extra tanks to the queue if you also add another 400 DPS.
