Give WHM an out of combat AoE Stoneskin please. Problem for the whiners solved :)
I always say that, but in the end I can never manage to let someone die on purpose <.< I should start doing that. I say it in particular when someone runs away even from protect "if he doesn't need my buffs, then doesn't need my heals either, no?".
And it would make our life easier too. Not like it's fun standing there buffing a lot of persons, and possibly run around the place to catch them all. When I am on another role is so relaxing and lazy-mode, just having to stand there waiting for healer to buff...
Stoneshield + Regena is more useful than spamming vita.
My Opinion. Thats why i cast Stoneshield!
:p
Give the bard a stoneskinsong. Buffs stoneskin to anyone near him that is out of combat (including himself) He´s the supporter not the whm.
Is this really a thread?
whaaaaat? u r a scholar, damage mitigation its your thing, our thing, you r a damage mitigator, u dont diserve to have galvanize
MMO =/= real life
And I call BS. Most elitists did not solo grind. They had their buddies carry them to get them up to snuff. Truth. I know this because I used to be an elitist player in several elitist guilds in other MMOs.
It's nothing more than a divisive mentality for the sake of creating an entitled minority. Meh.
I like you, really I do. I can't disagree with your sound, and tough-love style logic. Your issues would never be with me, anyway, because I typically "do it right." I guess we're debating for the sake of debating. But if the group sucks or refuses to do their part reasonably, don't expect me to spam 8x stoneskin before every wipe if it's not a game breaker.
I really do agree with this:
IE T2 you really do not need to recast stoneskin - before ADS yeah it can help but definitely not on the nodes before or at the very start of the turn. More than enough on the tanks (if at all).
It really comes down to know the fight.
If you are preparing it can't hurt to just throw it up. *shrug*.
It's a bit of a buffer for a WHM to not just have to blow all the load from the start and risk some weird enmity mixup. It's not really a problem but can happen with weak DF tanks or gear difference.
My PLD has Stoneskin and uses it on himself whenever it's apt to do so, long cast of an evil skill about to hit my face, cast Stoneskin, unless I'm doing something Flash heavy (three Aevis) so far I don't need that MP anyway (lvl 45). I did have to tell a WHM to stop spamming it on me during fights, conserve that MP, I'll cast it on myself thanks. I had one numbskull leave a party because he thought there was no way anyone should be using it but the healer.
Do you even know what Stoneskin does?
I take it not since you only have conjure level 15 still.
But to let you know what Stoneskin does for a white mage.
Stoneskin-Creates a barrier around target that prevents physical damage totaling 18% of target's maximum HP. (10% until 36)
PLDs and SCHs only get 10%, so if you don't see why white mages use it and do it to everyone, you sir are possibly playing the wrong class and should roll as a dps and then ask yourself "Why is the white mage not casting Stoneskin on me?" :c
i usually only drop stoneskin on the dps in my groups because i can mitigate dmg enough with adlo on the tank. having stoneskin up on my dps gives me a bit of breathing room if they take a hit or two by accident tho. and really, if people are just standing around, why not buff them?
@Squa
Silly player, go study your tooltips and game mechanics before making another ignorant comment like this.
Sometimes tanks in my pug groups will just charge in without stoneskin or protect. Well maybe they will be fine w/o it but when DPS take damage, the stoneskin is basically a free cure on everyone. This not only makes the start of fights much safer but saves healers Mana from healing everyone as well.
TLDR
Stoneskin saves time, mp, and enmity when all 3 matters.
Stoneskin costs time when it doesn't matter.
It is obvious isn't it? It saves a healers MP during a drawn out fight. Might not seem like a lot, but it still makes a difference. ANY extra MP is welcome, ANY time.
Those few heals you didn't have to do at the start of the fight = more healing on tank. Whole group takes damage, just one Medica I is sufficient to heal them back up = MP saved.
Not to mention less enmity acquisition on a boss that hits hard on a pull.
Simple.
In my experience, it's never wasted. Either it's damage mitigated in advance for no MP (thank you default MP regeneration), even if it's only used against the final boss, or it's used up on normal mobs because people don't know how to position themselves, pull, and/or monitor enmity properly. Every single dungeon I've run through Stoneskin was always used on everyone I cast it in, myself included.
You should probably level as a conjurer before you make ridiculous statements such as this, Squa.
stone skins slows the build up of limit break bar. the less damage your allies take the less healing you do = less lb built up.
It doesn't really matter, considering I've almost always had both full bars by the time we reached the final boss. I say "almost" here because some groups I left due to them being terrible. Some wouldn't listen, some thought it would be okay to pull a dozen mobs at a time, etc.
Well, I'm not against/for this but.. *confession bear* I'm that WHM that never stoneskins, unless a few situations:
1. Someone died, has a weakness.. and stuff like geocrush is coming up
2. Avoiding tank stacks
3. Stuff like Death Sentence. But then i forget 80% of the time
4. Doing it to myself when i know I'm going to get busy pretty soon
Granted I've been through most content, if not all for the moment but it does have its uses, I just never had the patience to wait for stoneskins in the beginning of the fight.. and kind of feel slow when someone does it. I usually just sat there and did nothing until they pulled >_<
If you've got selene out, throw Fey Glow up whilst the whm is buffing, it cuts a good chunk off that slow cast time especially if the whm is a spell speed stacker.
I am a whm (worst ever that walked this planet) and if SS is all that people have to complain about is of the use of SS or not ..is silly at best. I use Medica in Titan alot, often, there is a reason behind it, the why may not be the best of the reasons but still a reason good enough for me.
We all play differently, we arent copy pasted, right or wrong, doesnt matter really, there isnt a right or a wrong way, just maybe a better way then someone else..

Remember when Conjurer had all the elemental spells and Thaumaturge had drains spells and Dia/Scourge? Ahh, those were the days. Now we have a "Black Mage" who only uses three elements, a "white mage" who oddly boasts the other three, and only one of those actually plays like they were supposed to play. I love being a White Mage.
Whatever happened to Quake, Flood, Tornado and Burst? I miss those. I also miss having a Freeze spell which didn't completely suck.
hopefully all the good WHM spells will be added with expansions...i really hope....anyways i always SS at begining of fight bc all the above reason of mp conservation and it saves more time for tank focus healing but if the fight allows it and its safe i SS the second healer in the party because i get paranoid i will faill and all will go down hill. ;-(
This is such an odd discussion. Stoneskin is part of mana management, and healing prevention. Every bit of damage you prevent is damage you don't have to heal, everything you don't have to heal, is more MP for later. Titan is a perfect example of this. If I stoneskin everyone, I don't need that first medica. And that means more room for error. Same reason you should be watching the other healer (if one) so you don't overlap AOE you don't need, and timing your shrouds. Not wanting to cast stoneskin is akin to saying "everyone dodge perfectly and take no damage so I can start the fight 40 seconds faster. also don't die."
Sure sure. In a perfect situation you don't need the extra buffer. Because you don't need to heal much at all beyond the absolute unavoidable. So in theory Titan all you should ever need is a few AOE, and cure2 on tank. and done(and a good tank is using cooldowns appropriately so you never need a lot of cure2's either, so usually cure1 is fine). But I have only ever been in a titan group like that twice, both times were FC titan farm groups. Usually at least one person takes extra damage/needs a raise.
So let me put it to you this way: when every single person in the game can play perfectly and never take unavoidable damage I will consider not pre-casting SS on everyone anymore...
Also if you have a problem with imperfect groups where ss is especially useful, why don't you run with a single static you can always trust (and with a WHM who never casts SS)? If I am DF'ing I hardly ever expect perfection, so I am going to play accordingly. Chances are in DF(or even PF) I don't know you, or how much damage you might take. 700+HP prevented ahead of time is one more thing I can do to account for the inevitable mistakes, which makes fights much smoother when things do go wrong.
When WHM could sustain its own MP pool. AoE buff and benediction would hit the entire Party
the old days were good... now were stuck with sh-tty mp management and heals that will land after the person dies (gdi animation)
They took out all the cool stuff and watered down everything that was great :/
To be honest, in ALL the fights I've been to with WHM if there aren't 3 or more deaths I've never ran out of MP. I believe that's pretty generous. Except probably at Twintania Hatch because I panic and freak out like hell and healed whatever damage came to whoever, in which I almost always run out of mp as any healer by the end of the encounter..
I find myself as a WHM I SS initially before pulls to mitigate initial un-avoidable AOEs or bad dodges, but never during the actual fight. Even if I have nothing to do at that moment (rarely because I am pre-casting medicia or a cure) I would switch to cleric stance and throw some dots up.
As SCH however SS is a part of my rotation. It's amazing how much damage can be mitigated with two shields on the MT giving me more time to pop physiks in prep for big hits.
I use it quite a bit...always at the begining of every boss fight. No questions. Why? Because it gives me that extra 2 seconds to run across the area, or wherever, to get in position.
I know whilst I am finding my fav spot for helaing that particular fight, everyone is covered and not needing my attention.
I cast in some particular battles where I know a damage spike is about to happen, and even if I mis-time it and the hit takes, my SS then pops and the tank is covered for a few seconds while I start my cure cycle to get him back up. Win-Win.
SS rocks! (bad pun)
