I understand this could be found unrealistic, but there are bigger fish to fry. Much, much bigger fish to fry. This is so low on the list of things I think need worked on that realistically (heh) if it were never handled and most of the list were, I could care less.
If anything SE might take this criticism to heart and perhaps when designing new mobs in new areas they could program such behavioral data, but going back and redesigning zones/mobs just for shits and giggles? I doubt it.
uuuhhh theres flying mechanics to consider certain attacks that dont work as well on flying and vice-versa your asking to remove game element because you find something a little annoying.
The state of this forum is truly sad.
I do not know what you mean... it is obvious the birds are a critical issue that square must solve immediately or the whole battle system updates will mean nothing.
What does all this content and changes mean to the NA community without interactive birds? absolutely nothing >.>, better birds or gtfo.
Yea this is sad that people are so low on new things to complain about they are complaining about the birds that are backgrounds more of less.
I am surprised no one has mentioned that it is raining non-stop in uldah's areas now... but right after a heavy rain storm there is a sandstorm... after that much rain over the what last ~9 game months is their really any dust to blow around, seriously why is thanalan not underwater yet!... talking about unrealistic..........
I didn't realize that people in this thread were saying, give me sitting birds or give me death. I also didn't know they were wanting these changes imposed before battle changes or other pressing matters.
You assume way too much in this post and too many people are looking at this as if it's so drastically unimportant it's not even worth mention.
It's just something I personally would like to see down the line. I'm not going to speak for everyone else here but, I kind of would like more 'full of life' mobs. And I'm not saying drop all plans for battle changes to do it.
IF you do not care about this topic, that's fine, move on. But so many people are just posting just to put it down like it doesn't matter. If it doesn't matter to you, that's fine. But bitching about how much it doesn't matter to you just to put down legitimate players like me that would like this to be looked at 'some day' makes you just as much as much a troll as you claim the person who started the thread to be.
I didn't know there was a right and wrong way about ideas on the forums. Thanks for showing me the way, guys. Next time, anything with slight impracticality I'll make sure to curb the urge to comment on.
This is all I hear:
"Don't implement realistic birds because SE is too incapable"
"Make everything unrealistic and an eyesore because it doesn't matter anyway"
I mean come on guys! What game are you even playing? SE is supposed to be a game company that prides itself on its graphical and animation prowess. And yet, for some reason, you think they can't do this one, simple thing. It's a sad indictment on your expectations of SE if you do not think them capable of such a simple task.
Furthermore, the one staple commodity that this game has going for it is the graphics and realistic style of animations and other suchlike features. Why sacrifice FFXIV's one selling-point just because you want to include a recycled model from FFXI that nobody even liked ten years ago.
Just why? Why are so many people so appreciative of these crappy-looking birds and their equally crappy manoeuvrability?
Typical. Just typical.
Herpda Derp. That is all. XD <3 this troll thread rules. You should have made it about enemy movement all together and just include floating birds into it. Would have gone over a bit better with the average forum-goer here.
They could do with improving, but they shouldn't be removed.
Remember most of the time it's the little things that make the game.
Of course, take out enough of the little things and it can leave a game lifeless.
Maybe I didn't make myself clear on what I said.
I think it's the little things that make the game, but as a generalisation.
I was speaking for all the little things in FFXIV, personally I don't feel a lot for the birds either, but take them out and you may feel like something maybe missing.
Sounds stupid I know but you never know.
To me that does sound stupid because the birds detract from the overall experience rather than add to it. Therefore eliminating the detraction would make it an addition, by default. Hence kill them all.
Just because it's there doesnt mean it's good. Are we really so starved for additions that we must support something that takes away from the experience?
Like I said it was a generalisation, I was only making a point about what adds to the experience and what gives that immersion.
The birds for me is just another little thing in the game and doesn't really cause much distraction for me, yes they could do with work if they are to make a nice additional touch.
Of course this is only my opinion which I thought I'd contribute like everyone else.
This thread is just.....lol.
I don't care if they change or not but i would rather the birds walk around sometime then fly sometimes which most birds do.
Also most birds do spend most of their life flying unless they have bad luck and happen to have a human owner ^.^
It doesn't make sense to completely remove the birds, that's crazy talk, they should at least think about redesigning them at some point (some point meaning when they have less important issues to contend with)
This is an unpaid beta test. SE doesn't have to give lore-justifications before they fix bugs.
And if they did, then by that token they would have to explain the upcoming battle changes. Try explaining the imminent release of auto-attack. What? - so now we're all suddenly automatons from Windurst? Um, wrong game S.E.!
Besides, here's a reason:
The birds, being so opposed to gravity as they were, eventually found themselves floating off into the heavens. This mass exodus of befouling fowls was met with nothing but rejoicing sounds all over Eorzea as people ran into the streets in their jubilation, crying with delight as the birds ascended to their perch in the skies, never to besmirch the landscapes of FFXIV again.
what a useless thread
let me put this thread in another perspective:
Lets say a new MMO came out with mobs that dont move and just turn in circles like old SNES rpgs (FF mystic quest).
Would you say "its a fantasy game, so that normal" or would you say "wow that game is outdated"
Now we know other games have come out with realistic birds.
So why would you want SE to have outdated floating birds
Why do you always seek out the most minor problems and magnify them to a point of distressing issue Vesperia?
i dont see how being outdated is a minor issue.
The game has failed
compared to rift its a joke
and it hasnt even caught up to rift in over half a year
i realize hes a troll but he pointed out a serious issue. this game has some things that are really oldschool. Its like they took the fail parts of ffxi and ignored the cool progressive parts. so you have an old outdated game, that is pretty but has repetitive boring areas, that honestly can't even compare to the gameplay/story/content of the vanilla ffxi.
How am I a troll? Was it something I said?
I, quite frankly, am of the opinion that floating birds are the real trolls around here. But if you beg to differ, I guess that's just the way you see the world. Maybe in some weird, warped way, floating birds make a lot of sense to you, Gramul.
I don't think you're a troll Vesperia. I just think your focusing on the micro rather than the macro, and that doesn't work well for design.
You gotta make the outline before you go into the details. Especially with such minor things like the gliding animation for one type of enemy.
Hell even if you brought the issue up as "General mob animations" with some issues that the other monsters tend to have with there quirks and bring the floating birds as a strong example.
But focusing on one single type of monster and blindly fighting against people who don't agree it's a big issue.
Although even in the case of poor animation in general SE has some solid mobs with very good animations. Efts are animated perfectly and even react to your presense before agroing noting they go into "Active search mode" for sound agro.
Considering that my first ever thread was on the direction of FFXIV (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ction-of-FFXIV), it is not true at all that I focus only on minor issues.
Besides, there are broader implications of the floating bird scenario rather than just the fact that it's an eyesore. The floating bird is a microcosm for SE's greater failings.
The floating bird represents the path of least resistance. And SE has taken that path way too often.
