Honestly, benchmark should have been a teaser for beta, not the other way around.
A large part of this community is already going to be in beta and the benchmark will just be
"meh, we already saw the graphics and know how it runs now"
So the benchmark will only be for people not selected for beta. Which is ok, but it would have been better as a teaser for everyone. Instead of just the people not selected for beta.
THe benchmark will probably be released closer to the final build after tuning is done. They will probably have options for different settings as well.
Well if Bench uses max settings or something, that'd be cool, otherwise alpha videos should be enough as *teaser* But that depends on what the Bench shows also i guess :p Hope it shows fight with Behemoth or something.
Kind of agree and kind of don't. From a technical stand point, any time you change tech specs of a program (especially if it's lower than the previous version), you always want to put out a benchmark as a small program for people to see what machines will run fine without the install time (which does take a long time).
On, the other hand, as you said, the benchmark can be used as a valuable teaser and would have been better for everyone and not just those selected. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt though and say that they probably can't release an accurate benchmark until they accurately know how the current game plays. I have no evidence to back this up, it's just me giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Isn't that the purpose of delivering us 2 benchmarks?
One now, teaser, general specs example, graphics showcase, for those not in beta,
One later, finely tuned, closely matching the game requirements for actual benchmarking purposes.
benchmark could be release with this letter coming up tonight with the beta email. Beta may not start to next week but at least we got our invite and benchmark :) here for hoping :)
As with any game (benchmark in this case) every time you play/watch it as a developer you kinda go;
"Oh, sugar honey ice tea! I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT TEXTURE WAS MISSING"
"Is that animation meant to do that?"
"Why are we getting a FPS drop at X point?"
"Oh it crashed..."
These questions and more crop up constantly, they then need to be noted, rectified and tested.
This takes a LONG TIME.
As developers we can say "We'll have it out next week" and then 2 hours later find a truck load of problems with it and quickly patch them up delaying the initial release.
Trust me your patience will pay off, you'll recieve a fully functioning product that meets the standards you expect
TL;DR
These things take time, be patient.
