Yep Wow has all of those right. Just because they stream lined the UI to the industry standard and quest progression another industry standard doesn't mean that they are not innovative.

PS: FFXI copying Everquest has been made official. Maybe now the rose-colored goggles can come off and we can move on.

Many other games have original features and additions to boast but they don't innovate at the genre's core, and thus don't appeal beyond the regular scope.
We'll see how 2.0 fares. For now, I'm cautiously optimistic.

As am I Gramul, though i was mainly directing that at some in this thread that were saying it was a WOW clone with basically
no innovation to speak of.

Everyone who actually played FFXI knew that SE used EQ as a base during it's production because most people who played XI that previously played MMOs could tell off the bat it was similar to EQ yet still did things in a unique way. No one has ever denied that except for the ones that seem to dislike that XI exists stating that others find it a completely original game. Also:

What failed? There's really been only a few of the MMOs between 1994-2002 failed from what I seen, yet we're constantly seeing most new MMOs fail right off the bat, unless you were trying to say FFXI failed, then you're just being biased, since if we're talking about failed MMOs, APB is a good example of one.

So far it does look like a wow-clone let just hope it does not keep following that road all games that make wow-clone end up failing. You can add wow stuff and make it your own but so far ffxiv 2.0 seem more of a wow-clone then anything most of everything that make it final fantasy wont even be in 2.0.

Only because everquest 2 didn't have quest icons during the time the FF XI developers played it before they created FF XI.

If you guys think the PC UI is too much WoW use a gamepad on your PC and switch to the gamepad UI (PS3 UI).

Just give it up guys this game will NEVER be Final Fantasy 11-2. And thank goodness.

Innovation didn't make 1.0 the failing that it was. Shortsightedness and lacking thoroughness did, along with generally haphazard implementations. You can make an interesting experience out of the kind of gameplay 1.0 planned. They didn't reach it, but that's a problem of execution, not the innovation.
