Meanwhile on balmung, meds go between 100-200 bids usually, and good larges double that. Smalls usually range from 15+. Not enough houses for demand here tbh
This. Only this.
Houses exist, people just want something specific and would rather bid on a 200 bid plot than settle for one that can dropped to a 50/50 chance and eventually moved out of. This is what I did on Crystal, I got my house with 1 other bid in my first week of being there in the last month or two. I now have a decorated house that I can eventually upgrade to a better spot.
Yeah, Square should have unlimited housing but some should also recognize they're creating their own problems.
Subscriptions are the reason they keep housing it is. They've had several years to fix it, but they know people who have houses will feel locked into paying a subscription because of demo timers. They can't unsubscribe in between the meager bits of patch content we get.
Anything else is basically working backwards for why they can't do it. It's all just an excuse because saying that part out loud wouldn't be received well.
Yeah they're picked up but especially at 7.0 release where nobody can data transfer, they might get picked up but people start dropping like flies trust me I'm on Maduin, my FC isnt old but we got a medium in Shiro and bid on a large that got demo'd. Just cuz people have them doesn't mean they keep them on these servers
They don't need more wards atm at all, there are dozens of houses free for weeks now without bids on many servers.
Balmung and maybe a couple other servers being ram packed doesn't mean every server needs more wards. Move server, they opened new ones that gave the chance for every dream plot. You had the chance to get your house but you refuse to move server, that's on you.
Imagine if we had a ward system that adjusted automatically on a per-need basis utilizing cloud storage scalability.
That way, places like Balmung that really need the help would get more wards, while places like dynamis that don't really need any assistance at all could keep what they have. Resources could be used where they're needed, and "conserved" (for lack of a better word) where they're not. Cloud DC testing combined with island sanctuary's ability to store outdoor furniture in an instanced setting gives me lots of hope that we're going to get some kind of major housing revision soon. A lot of the cited obstacles (storage space being the most often cited one) are kinda solved now. The pieces are in place. Just gotta implement, right? It'd be weird if they didn't solve it. I'm so excited about how cloud scalability will let this game get around tons of its "we don't have enough space" issues. Maybe we'll get more furniture slots, the ability to write more in our search info, etc. etc. For so many QoL things, the reason often given was that there just wasn't enough space to do X. Well, now you have this cool new tech that makes the space issue negligible, right? So I'm hopeful!
What standard would be used to measure need?
Too many discussions about the need for more wards have been getting started by players that already have a house. Their complaint isn't that they can't get a house. Their complaint is that they can't get the plot and/or house size that they want due to competition.
Fair enough. I feel the complaints are justified since other MMORPGs with housing avoided that problem by using instanced housing systems. Not only do their players have no problem getting housing, they're usually able to get a house for each of their characters if not multiple houses for all of their characters. They're also getting the housing of their choice instead of being forced to pick through leftovers that others passed up.
If the others are doing it, it's puzzling that SE decided to turn FFXIV housing into such a drama fest by intentionally limiting the number of larger plots and forcing players into the small plots that are seen as less desirable.
But we're still back to the question of what would determine need within the current system. Is need by player or by character? Is it any housing or just house plots? Is it a plot of any size or must it be plot of each player's desired size? Does there have to be a sufficient number to match demand on a given world or is it satisfactory if the demand is met at the regional level?
Where does the line get drawn and players told to adjust/compromise if they can't get the housing they want because the supply still does not exist?
I would LOVE this. If we could just spend gil to increase the interior of an apartment (not even add levels just make the room larger) it would be so amazing. With lofts and such we can easily make levels in a room.
Slightly off-topic, my apologies, but I would also love the ability to hide the windows and pillars in rooms. xD
Just look at the number of plots available on a world, and when it gets below a certain threshold, make a new ward. The numbers are right there in game. This is easy to do if your goal is to just make more wards without a care for people who actually just mean "I want a medium at this specific place." My post wasn't written with those people in mind at all.
In reality, I think an instanced setup would serve a lot of people better than the current system. Imagine a kind of void house instanced area where you can customize the area immediately around your house, too. Want a home on a little island like that one (1) house in the lavender beds that always get 700 people bidding on it? Well, now you can just -have that-. That is my ideal. But for OP's suggestion, I was willing to work within the boundaries of the thing OP wants while thinking about how that could feasibly work.
I NEVER said it wouldn't. I want housing to get an instanced feature so badly, I am 100% in the camp that wants it. I just also know that it isn't guaranteed to happen. In that case we should push for the mods to improve the system that is already in place too. This thread is NOT about instanced housing however, and for that reason.
