There Might be DLC. It is rather weird to not Release FFXVI with a Season Pass though....but that would Guarantee that there is DLC

I recall Yoshi saying that FF16 was set to have more Eikons and abilities but some were scrapped (likely Leviathan) because it was overkill to have all these Eikon powers. They probably likely chose to remove Levithan entirely cause if we fought Levi and did not get the powers, people would probably complain about that. I really wouldn't overthink Levithan as anymore than a cameo for those "Where is Levithan?" people. If they make DLC for the game, I personally expect a "Royal Edition" style of them doing it.

If there is DLC, then it would have entered development before FF16 released. Due to how long it takes to develop, and QA modern AAA content, and due to the transient nature of a game's time in the spotlight, game devs do not wait until after a game is successful to begin working on DLC. If they did that then the DLC would release well after people have lost interest in the base game and have moved on, meaning diminished sales.

I think that Tomb Raider was multiplat (I can’t remember. One of them was exclusive for a while) so maybe that’s the difference. I know on some gaming forums people joke about square always being unhappy with sales.

Nah, Square has been pretty vocal about being disappointed with the sales number for Tomb Raider.

Whether they're planned or whether they'll ever be done and delivered are 2 different questions.

All you really need do is look at FFXV and the sheer volume of planned stuff that they never delivered on. Or ended up cutting from the game..

As for tomb raider I dunno what SE was smoking. The reboot trilogy titles have been the most successful entries in the entire franchise making it more popular than it ever has been.

I dunno what sales targets they were hoping for but I think they just looked at how popular franchise is and added a zero to the sales targets...

I'm sure the dev teams has all sorts of utilities that assist with development. They aren't reinventing the wheel every time. They don't need the original dev team to add content.

Leaving possible future story threads isn't them holding back. The narrative and game still works without having Leviathan in the picture. Other story driven games do this for the sake of adding extra details in their lore without needing for the game to address every single thing.

Even if they decide to make another project it would be 5-6 years away and not even in production till at least by the time of 14s next expansion after this in timeframe if we go with how long games can be in pre production etc.

I agree it's pretty obvious who OP may be, but I don't think he's wrong about Leviathan. I'm trying a new thing where I don't immediately dismiss someone based on some convos yesterday. Agree with you also though that some DLC for a game and assets mostly already done wouldn't be as much of an undertaking, so would have less of an impact than an entirely new game.

Leviathan is my favorite Summon/Eikon of all of them so his (or her in this case)'s absence was prettty notable since they bothered to write her as existing. People are also speculating exactly where Leviathan would be on the map also.

300m for the studio and its IP is not the best deal of the year, but it seems (my opinion, clearly) SE wants to move from AAA single player to "GaaS MMO videogame" and Crystal Dynamics was not able to show results, thus the sale.
