It was actually pretty rare that new people got kicked. Mostly they just got left behind, lost and wondering what was going on, with an out-of-context cutscene popping up now and then.
I actually enjoy the pauses when I run MSQ (usually for Moogle tomestones if I am not leveling a class). Was watching the digital fan fest last time I ran it and we were all chatting about the reveals in party chat during the cutscenes, it was great!
This crops up a lot, but as everyone has said, the huge rewards are because the cutscenes are unskippable and recompense for the time spent. If you don't want to spend the time, there are other ways to earn the exp and tomestone rewards, do that. If they ever make the msq a solo run, you will hear the wails and lamentations of the masses when that nice chunk of exp goes by the wayside.
Then people will just leave and requeue when they see new players, making it more difficult for new players to clear the content and ultimately defeating the purpose of the roulette.
Also remember to remove the bonus XP/tomestones/gil when Vote to Skip Cutscenes is enabled since the player no longer needs the additional compensation for the additional time required to clear.
Newplayers getting to see them was the reason behind it?
If no new players, the DF system doesnt recognise rewards based on new players or not, just its the MSQ.
A choice if no new players are there to see Cut scenes or not should be available.
The reward isnt there just for the cutscene, you have been playing long enough to recall Yoshi P stance to why this was increased.
Why pressure them since people just went on ahead.
The cut scenes were made unskippable also so that new players could do that fights, if theres no new players in a MSQ then an option to skip be fine, no new players hurt in the process and people still took the chance at MSQ roulette, isnt that how rng works and how people say well expect anyone in the DF?
I'm glad to hear they can't do this, but even if they could, to the OP, the entire reason the extra rewards are there is because of the unskippable cutscenes. MSQ was not nearly this rewarding prior to those being unskippable. People were being jerks to new people and it became such a problem that the cutscenes became unskippable and the rewards were increased to lure people into still doing it. So it is the new people we can thank for that roulette having those insane rewards. Which is why even if they could ever find a way to do this, they won't, because it would lead to griefing new people again. Or they would make sure the extra rewards were removed and then people would just bail anyway.
Parroting what others have said here. If you don't want to watch the cutscenes, don't run it. Get your tomes and/or experience some other way. It already goes as fast as humanly possible and you have people on different voice settings starting fights and leaving others out, so that doesn't need any further encouragement.
Most groups I'm in MST3K the hell out of the place and it's a lot of fun. Or we have the wackiest conversations. In a game that is so rush rush rush, it's nice to have one place where we can just chill and enjoy the ride.
Because you actually needed most of the people in the fight back then. Our ilevel wasn't as insane as it is now so one or two people didn't cut it. The fight couldn't start if the new person was a healer and in a cutscene. So they got pressured to skip them and watch them in the inn.
This is why you see old school people still running behind the pillars in the hallway after the elevator. We avoided the big guy and things in the hall because we couldn't just drag them into the next room and fight everything there.
MSQ roulette gives you absolutely nothing that you cannot get elsewhere. You only need to do it once for the msq itself. If you don't like it then don't do it again. Simple as that. I don't understand why this is difficult to grasp.
On the days I don't want to deal with msq roulette I just get my xp and tomes elsewhere. Apparently this is some form of rocket science that just flies over some people's heads.
The change to the MSQ was only made much later into the game, and yes I am aware of the situation back then.
People here are trying to argue the rewards are based strictly on the cutscenes when its actually more specific to the new player experience to engage in the boss fights that ensues after them.
Since the cutscenes are strictly designed with new players in mind, if there arent any, then why enforce with no options to all vets to watch the cutscenes.
I swear the FF playerbase really wants to ensure the vets struggle for no reason more then any other game.
