Chat Bubbles In Game!! Will Make Community Better

People actually read text in game?! With all the "watch vid on youtube" and "discord or (insert voice chat thing here) required" spammed for stuff I started to wonder if people forgot how to read stuff in a game... >.>

That said I actually like not having chat bubbles. I've played MMO's that had them and it quickly became annoying in populated areas.

Click the gear next to the chatbox and edit your log filter for one of the channels to only see local/whisper text?

It's probably your only real hope of getting what you want done.

Not everyone hangs out in Limsa all the time.

I found the speech bubbles handy in WoW in combat content. I'm not looking at my chatbox when I'm in combat, I look at the arena. And if I see a speech bubble pop up in the arena well then I know right away someone has said something. Without speech bubbles I do miss what is said in chat quite often when I'm in combat.

Idk about your Limsa but mine has barely anyone speak in /say chat. Its all in /tells.

Chatbubbles please! But you should be able to disable them. :)

Yes. When I first started playing the game I missed so many people talking to me. Because I wasnt used to no text bubbles. The speed the Novice Chat went by all the time just hid everything being said in regular chat. Not to mention the gil vendors who block out the entire chat with their wall of text and no way to filter it.

If someone walks up to you, you see a text bubble appear and you read that. If someone walks up to you and it appears in the chatbox I generally miss it for the next 5minutes cause Im focused on playing the game not looking at chat. And that is with me disabling every type of chat except say/tell/shout/yell/linkshell. Only thing Id see immediately is a tell but only if I wear a headset because it makes a notify sound.

I used to play a game called Gaia online, this was during the prime time of online chatrooms... It had speech bubbles and it was never a problem. Some areas were overpopulated but it never made it an issue because the bubbles didn't overlap, it just shifted to the side of the other one.

I think speech bubbles in game is a fantastic idea.

I'd actually be fine with that. Messages appear in chat anyway so it's not like it's going to change a whole lot to have chat bubbles ... But i'd say this would still require careful implementation, as they could be a nuisance when trying to interact with NPCs and such. Like someone else said, the option to turn them off would probably be a requirement.

Only if there's an option to turn it off.

I mean I personally probably wouldn’t use it. I always turn them off in games where i can that have them. I also don’t think I would care if they were there or not so long as the option not to have them was available for me. It would be quite easy to implement so the cost to put them in would be quite minimal. So I guess I wouldn’t mind it. I think further customizing like “friends list only” Or “FC only” would be good for that sort of thing.
