I think the achievements are very fair, aside from the get 100,000,000 gil off of NPC kills or whatever the fuck it is. Seriously what the hell. I can't even think of an immediate NPC that drops gil.

fair means everyone is on equal ground, no advantages, so yeah, 100mil is fair lol

but beastmen drop gil if youd like to know what you can go to for it


alot of these arent meant for short term either, like that one, but for long long long long long long long term

i think my 2 synths for 1 they did does count as an advantage. i can be sure i would have earned my luminary tools for a few classes had my synths from grinding and spritibond crafts counted. all of the grinding done and all of the materials and finished products made before do not count so yes they do have an advantage.

if the luminary costs me twice the amount of time, gil, and synths than it does someone else for the same end result then it is an advantage no matter how you look at it.

Not necessarily...you both start from the same place. If anything, you are the one with the advantage because you have the benefit of experience. You've already done it, so you know what is cheapest to make, what is most cost-effective to synth, and you can probably synth it at least twice as fast as the newb if you are well-geared and use your skills.

I fail to see how your retroactive time/effort somehow gives the other guy an advantage. You ended up putting in more time, but both of you started from the same place... at 0. You can argue the fairness of that all you want, but there's definitely no disadvantage on your part. Starting from 0 you both get to the same place at the same time; you actually will likely get there faster because of your previous experience.


As far as these achievements go, a double-melded tool can own luminary tools outright, and a triple meld is a no-contest at all. Imo if you're already capped you might as well work on melding an HQ double/triple meld tool instead of farming irrelevant nodes thousands of times. Thats just my opinion tho, some ppl just want the tool for the prestige.

did things i did in game go towards the luminary tool even though it was before the luminary was put in place? no.

will players starting now do synths that will not count towards their luminary? no

the point is an advantage is one person having to do something another person does not have to do. i leveled my crafts and did not get credit for those towards the luminary. new players will not so it is an advantage. if it wasn't an advantage then everyone that levels the class gets no credit towards the luminary whether it is done before or after the achievement went into the game until they hit rank 50. after rank 50 then the synths will count towards it.

it is an advantage no matter what is said. even if it was 1 synth that i did that didn't count towards the luminary tool and a new player had 0 then that is still an advantage. the advantage is i had to complete 3001 synths instead of 3000.

Some of you are forgetting how many synths it used to take to get to lvl 50. On top of the low experience that people used to get, I took the route of riding a synth that was cheap for me (back in the days you couldn't store leves). I mined my own electrum mats and made rings, and I did it far above when i should have been, just because it was free and one of the only doable/fastest/whatever-you-want-to-call-it synths around.

I know for a fact that I made more than 3000 electrum rings when I was leveling up.

That being said, it doesn't matter to me one way or another what method SE chooses. Those of us who care about our jobs will get to work and get our tools, those who level the jobs just to have all 50s will complain about having to do too much work.

Just get in gear guys and knock out those synths, many of them will still make you some gil while you're at it.

You're using the wrong word, what you are talking about is fairness. As in it is unfair that you had to do more work to get to the same place as another guy. I get that. What I'm saying is that is not "advantage" or "disadvantage" for the precise reason that both of you start from the same point: 0.

For instance if I instill achievements tomorrow, even though youve been gathering ages, both you and a newb start out on a level playing field. Your counter is 0, and his counter is 0. Thus no one has an advantage, if we assume "experience" is entirely not beneficial.

One person having to do something another person doesn't have to is the definition of unfairness. I agree its unfair, but it doesn't give anyone an advantage. Either way it takes both of you the same amount of time after achievements are put in place, since both of you start at the beginning. Advantage would be you getting progress on your achievements based on what you did beforehand, while the newbs start at 0. At that point you are starting from different places, and you are likely to finish sooner.

He is not and I'll tell you why. After achievements are put in, you both have to complete 3000 synths. He does not have an advantage over you at all, since that extra work you did was completed before he even started.

It would have been nice if credit from pre-achievement actions could have been counted. Some transferred over, others didn't. Kill quests, exploration, levels, dungeons, and quests carried over. Crafting, gathering, leves, and gil did nots. Gots ta go through some of those steps again if you *reeeeeally* want it.

If achievement hunting and what item rewards call to you... if you have fun along the way or you think the end result will bring about great fun, by all means, go for it!

I personally don't have fun going for most of these. Some achievements have equated to getting the shell together on some faction leves across the realms with some costume swapping and picture taking, so to me, was quite fun. But I wouldn't suggest changing your gaming lifestyle for these (unless it results in fun for you).

These luminary tools are going to be the base tools needed to upgrade to Legacy Item Tools (Relic Weapons).
