Long story short: Its not a gil sink as long as the gil stay in game, even if they're now in the pocket of another person.
On top of that: There are other ways to get mounts, minions, emotes etc. - by farming for them. You dont have to spend gil on them, if you dont want to.
A true, proper gil sink would be a mount or something else that you can only buy from an NPC for a signifcant amount of gil that gets taken out of the game that way. -

Am I fool to think that a reason why pockets become so inflated with gil is because the game uses a ridiculous amount of currency other than gil? Why am I spending gemstones on crafting mats dropped from mobs? Why do beast tribe currencies exist when the spoils are locked behind quest progression? I remember spending six figures on each of the ARR beast tribe mounts. What the hell happened to that? Mastercraft books; bought with scrips? Why, when they can slap a serious gil price tag on those? Why are crafting mats bought with tomes earned through battle?
I support the devs a lot. Like a lot, a lot. This change doesn't really affect me all that much other than reduce my net revenue. Yet, it has ruffled my feathers and I find myself thinking WTF. The reason is because it is one of those changes that lets you know they are not allocating their resources properly, and when they are as limited as they claim, you don't want to make stupid, needless decisions with them as is the case here. Unless of course, someone can provide some insight that applies reason to this decision. I can't think of any. -

i think it was just the fact that you could buy all the stuff to make them on the marketboard extremely cheaply and only have a tiny tax removed from the gil-pool then immediately turn them into collectibles to add 100x as much gil back into the gil-pool
honestly though i think crafter botting is so easy and widespread that they removed making raw gil through it strictly because of that, maybe even RMT related -

Huh... I just discovered gathering and crafting as a more or less "new" returning player that bought all the expansions and is subbed, how am i supposed to farm gil if they remove the means of selling stuff at lower levels, i mean.. Housing costs millions... And equipment is sometimes pretty expensive especially as a new player, if i want to buy a sword needed for , let's say, the curtana relic quest the base sword is listed at around 350 to 400K gil on my server... There is no way a new player can get that much money that fast... If they only think about "long time" players that saved up to 100 Million gils, they sure do forget about newcomers that don't have it so easy.
Also, in almost every Final Fantasy Game i was more than happy to farm dozen or hundred millions of gils too, i don't see this being out of the "norm" in a final fantasy game, i still have saves in the original FF7 / FF8 / FF9 with a ton of farm'd gils (i know it might not be relatable to an online game but still, i don't think it's so out of the ordinary for final fantasy games)
Oh well... I was enjoying selling stuff i gathered through mining tho... This change is coming so soon, it's scary, i could only profit from that side of the game for such a very little time :( Who is thinking about the noobs ?
Maybe i'm wrong but making it way harder for new players to make gils, doesn't it defeat the purpose to fight against RMT in the first place ? Oo
