Not really. While both do have long hair and fill the "Angsty edgelord" role, Zenos isn't hell-bent on worldwide conquest or galactic domination. He just wants to fight the strongest and continue getting stronger. He isn't like other Garleans, who think it's their god-given right to control all of Eorzea, because they're descendants of morons that sacrificed themselves to a god of destruction (as per their creation) and now must punish every other race, due to their own shortcomings.

On the contrary, I have next to zero interest in the remake, and I grew up on early FF titles released in America like VII. My reluctance also isn't just due to how overly saturated the franchise has become with releases related to VII; it also comes from an awareness of time. Nier Automata is already established as the 24-man colab for this expansion, and between now and the next expansion there is no telling which game - if even a FF title would be the most fitting for the next raid. On top of that, there are already the call backs you mentioned such as materia, and the Gold Saucer. Plus, we are also getting the weapons as our next set of trials.

To me, the question quickly becomes why use more VII when there are other, untapped wells to draw from? I'm still waiting for major callbacks to FFIV, which is another very popular FF title. It would have been the perfect choice for the 24-man back in HW that was so focused on the DRG job, and also bringing DRK into the game. Better late than never, I say. However, collabs in FFXIV seem to always be with other franchises, not other FF titles.

7 gets way too much praise just because it came out at the right time and had the right advertising.

Xenogears absolutely destroys 7s story and gameplay. Not to mention countless other Rpgs in the psx era did.

Id love it if one day we got a mortal Kombat crossover of some kind, that's my wish for crossovers, but an ff 7 of some kind wouldn't be bad.

Why the hate for FF7? We already have other titles as fan service in here and the last 24 man is a basic love letter to tactic fans. I say why not, lets have a fun 24 man based on some FF7 stuff. It's not like we already don't have things in the game thats from 7 and other games anyway. What's so wrong with a 24 man too? And no 7 wasn't my first jrgp.. my first would be breath of fire. Just pointing that out there. This reminds me of the old school sonic vs sonic adventure debate. Where people would say if you like sonic adventure you were a -new- fan. I always hated that point, I like Sonic adventure and FF7 and those were not my first games ever.

Ye but iirc, we haven't a lot of FFXII/Tactics references in the game. Maybe just the Sky Pirates for lvl 60 24 man raid as far as I remember.

We'll get the new trials based on FFVII and you want a 24 man raid too ? Guys ? Really ? Rename "Shadowbringers" into "FF7 Legacy" in that case.
