There is also the problem that Inner Beast is a GCD skill, while TBN is off-GCD. It's more difficult to activate IB in time. When you just hit an attack button when the tank buster cast starts it's nearly impossible to activate it in time, except it's a really slow cast.

On paper IB is maybe better, but in the real fight TBN is more reliable, especially for the standard player who plays "on sight".

A. Our party shield would cost a ridiculous amount of MP, compared to the other 2 tanks who essentially get something for free.
B. Remove WARs shake it off shield too, it should never have got one. Shields are Paladin stuff.

What would be better I think, is if everyone got their own unique spin on it.

Paladin would have Divine Veil and Passage as they currently do.
Warriors Shake it off could increase the parties members HP by 8%, with a further 4% added for defensive CD's used.
Dark Knight could have sole survivor debuff the enemy with "shieldsteal" effect, essentially a portion of damage people do to that enemy is turned into a shield. Should work well in 5.0 with the addition of displaying shields on your HP bar.

If each job has its own spin, then TBN shouldn't be a "shield". It could be a reflect/leech effect capped at 20%/10% of target's max HP. And if the full amount is leeched, you gain the Blood surge. The little extra DPS would be welcomed too.

Then maybe change the DRK animations to reflect that 'fast paced' action, which really seems to suit the WAR and PLD aesthetic more, so that you're not clipping every single animation off immediately.
Dark Arts has like a 3 second animation, and you're you're flying around the battlefield with an enormous greatsword.

In my opinion the class should be slow, due to the massive lump of metal you're dragging around, with any speed coming from magic-based skills you weave between the slow GCD weaponskills.

The cost of a DA to multiply TBN by 4 or 8 times? Doesn't seem too costly to me, but maybe the base cost of TBN could afford to be cheaper. You shouldn't have to stop using your signature skills on the off-chance you need to pop your shield.

You can't make TBN cheaper without making what's supposed to be a defensive skill into a DPS gain. At the moment, so long as it pops it's roughly neutral. That's what makes it a bit interesting to use, you have to time it so it pops otherwise you'll lose damage.

DA-TBN would (currently) be 4800MP, to do something that the other tanks can do for free.

Tanks don't need party shields anyway. Paladin got one in HW and it was nice, and it was unique, and it fit the Paladin theme.
Then Warrior got one in SB because of course it did, the other tanks can't have anything that's just for them.
And now people think Dark Knight needs one, and they keep suggesting the worst possible implementation of it over and over again.

I don't think it's what DRK needs, but slightly better than DA-TBN.

Essentially though, it would be as if using Divine Veil cost Paladins a holy spirit and put Sentinel on cooldown. They'd never use it.

Technically, it's not "free". Basically this game has three cost (soon, only two), which are TP, MP and time (Fun fact, DRK is the first job that got screwed by having Dark Passenger cost both MP and time). Divine Veil and Shake It Off both have a CD that prevent from using them too much. A 4800MP partywide TBN would have a far better uptime, if you're willing (or need) to sacrifice some of your DPS...which depending of how DA-TBN returns Blood, might not even be that big of a loss.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a DPS loss either providing its made up elsewhere.
Bloodspiller would feel a bit more satisfying with a potency buff.
