Just stick a roman numeral on the end or be original :P
Free up names from level 1 inactive characters, so active players can create new level 1 alts just to hold those "popular" names and nothing is truly solved.
We have first and last names, we also have ' and - to further modify your name. If someone was faster than you at getting certain name then tough luck, just think of something else.
So you're salty because you were not the one thinking of that name first? :P
There are millions and millions of names out there, I'm sure you will able to find one/think of one that's not taken and that you like just as much, if not more.
With the first name/last name system I don't really see how you could be locked out of a name you want, unless you're trying to be 'Cloud Strife' or something.
If a player is still paying their sub then they shouldn't lose their name. I think the housing demolishing is a little extreme. The devs siezing land to resell to the people? I don't think taking things from paying customers is a good business model.
I agree to an extent some names should be cleared up, having multiple alts, across all servers with the same name just to namelock with them all being at level 1 is a bit ridiculous. But you do have to go about this in a way that doesn't affect anyone in a major way. Maybe alts that havent been touched in 2 years or leveled past 30 in two years isnt a bad start. It probably won't free up names you want but it would be a good clean out of some names i'm sure.
I've had some original ideas bounce back in the past. To have some old names rotate back in would be nice.
if the subscription is being paid leave them alone.
if there's no sub i would be okay with
Under Lv 30 - 6 months
Above Lv 30 - Be within one expansion of the current one. So if a Lv 50 character quit before HW and hasn't paid their sub since, their name should go back into the pool when 4.1 is released. if they paid anytime during HW even if they didn't buy HW, they should be fine until 5.1.
