This doesn't have much to do with the topic at hand, but Foresight is actually a pretty good CD by now! It used to be really bad in the times of 2.X, but since its effect scales with the Defense in our gear, the higher our IL, the more powerful Foresight has become. It's still not powerful enough by itself, but if you pair it with Sheltron for a physical tank buster, it will reduce a little bit more damage than even Rampart on its own. Specially as a PLD, Foresight should be the first and foremost cross-class skill, and the only one, imo, that is actually crucial.

Cure works, but you can't have it. It doesn't fit.
Every PLD should have Foresight, Bloodbath, Stoneskin, Protect, and Mercy Stroke. If you have absurdly high Skill Speed, you can drop protect for Fracture.
If you want to trigger Veil, use clemency. You should have the MP between Riot Blade every 9 globals and Sheltron.

I skipped protect for months without any issue...and even before, I used it less than Cure.

Only if you are doing older content that you out gear. Foresight may scale with ilevel, but the percentage of damage mitigated by the cooldown stays roughly the same when comparing content with appropriate ilevels.

Foresight mitigates roughly the same % in ~i240 gear in Sophia EX as it did with ~i210 gear in Seph EX.

Similarly, I never picked up Stoneskin in all of the 2.X series (where people actually liked it) and never had an issue. Really the only CDs that you'll see any real use out of are Bloodbath/Mercy Stroke/Foresight but Protect is easy to get and has niche uses so you might as well.

Also yeah, this is true - Foresight is roughly as strong now as it was at the start of 3.0 as long as you're doing current content. The older the content the stronger Foresight becomes. Soloing stuff is actually where Foresight shines the most imo, but there's no real point in not having an extra defensive CD regardless.

you may as well of applied it after so everyone has a shield for the next little while allowing your healers to do whatever they want. or better yet tell the healers your applying it and maybe it was enough of a shield so that the healer could of just dps'd the whole time instead of switching from cleric.

don't get me wrong its a good skill that should be used often, like encidna in VA you can use divine veil on both raid wide attacks as the timer will reset or you could use it just before the shared aoe as most healers wont prep for that they just react after so you could save them having to heal at that point possibly.

there is a lot of places it can be useful just most the time for raid wide's that healers are prepping for it isn't.

This is true. Most of the time divine veil makes no difference at all. if for example your group fails a dps check. then divine veil succor. sacred soil every shield possible will not save you from a wipe. (excluding perhaps tank lb3)

If your group passes the dps check however as a scholar i'll throw up a succor to shield the party before it goes off and time another to go off right after the bosses ultimate attack. and that's the party back at full hp.

Now if the group passes the dps check and a tank throws up divine viel with my succor before the bosses ultimate goes off. I'm still going to time a succor to go off right after the bosses attack and the party is still going to be back at full hp. so using divine veil has essentially done nothing to help in any way. it has had zero impact on the amount of healing I need to do to keep the party alive. because whether or not you whether or not you used it 1 aoe heal is enough to top the party off.

And I use clemency whenever necessary, even if I have a good healer. Since clemency is in between cure 1/2 most of the time, I'll pop it when I'm at 50% and know I'll be taking damage soon to make the healers life easier.

I use my mana a lot but I still wouldn't call it particularly precious. I will typicaly stoneskin myself when chance permits. those 3-4 seconds gaps where a boss does something like nidhoggs hot wing attack, brute justices big ass lazer or something such and often throw clemency up on myself or other people that are low on hp. if you time it right you can get clemency off right after hell wind obliterates the alliances hp in forgal. or in some of the newer alex fights where healers are to busy running there markers away from the group to get a quick heal on you. (especially when the dps move there markers towards the healer and force the healers ever further away.

For me I use Fracture, Mercy Stroke, Foresight, Stoneskin, and Protect. Given the amount of damage you're usually taking bloodbath just really isn't all that worth it
