I'm just gonna leave this here:
There's a reason there is RMTs is cause there are IDOTS that actually buy the gil. I still want my right-click RMT report SE! Heck, if I knew players that are buying gil I'd report their asses too.

OK I'll post screens later then. I have no reason to make this shit up so I don't see your reason for trying to invalidate what I posted, are you rmt? I too play every afternoon. In fact, just yesterday I zoned into uldah and right next to the crystal there were 3 players with names such as hhdbd hhdbd, asd asdf, kvjdh kjhgf and they were all set to away yet shouting Gil sells. I asked a friend if they had ever seen these obvious bots and they said yeah it's been going on for days. Those ppl were there the rest of the day just shouting and they had some in other zones.
As for /tells idk how you're playing 5 hours a day and only getting 5. Do you have only 2 50s or something? Maybe they don't see you as a profitable customer. I have every class to 50, crafting and gathering included as does my wife and we recieve anywhere from 1 to 3 /tells every 30 seconds. I have filled blist and online status set to /busy just because it's gotten worse since the free login campaign. As for the person that basically told me to shut up because rmt will never stop, you're the exact mindset that perpetuates rmt. You may not be able to completely stop it, but some games have succeeded in atleast cutting down the traffic. If enough ppl continue to brainstorm and complain then something will be done, nothing is accomplished by being that guy that says "back in my day we had to walk up a steep hill for 50 miles in the snow just to get away from rmt AND YOU KNOW WHAT, WE NEVER COMPLAINED ONCE!"
FFXI has no RMT? Could've fooled me.
Also, the only true way to stop RMT is to remove trading. There is no other way. Even if you put every material on an NPC, it would just cause something else to drive up the cost on the MB. Maybe we should just do away with the MB and let people buy directly from NPCs? Oh wait, then RMT will be used to buy from NPCs, but gil would be worthless at that point so we should just put all items for sale on the NPCs but they all cost 1 gil. Of course, even if you make it so people can't trade, there will still be RMT for leveling services. So take out levels, make it so when you create a character you are handed max level gear, max level character and unlocks to everything in the game. There, now no more RMT.
OP, you do get why selling to an NPC at market price is dump right? Player to player no money is injected into the system while with an NPC the money appears out of nowhere. This inflates the economy and makes your Gil worth less. Take diablo 2 for example. Money had no use and people switched to a rare commodity, SoJ rings.
So correct me if I'm wrong, but you want to stop RMT by making the thing people pay real money for worthless thus ruining the entire marketboard and destroying crafters and gatherers server-wide
Your not going to get rid of RMT but you can ruin the items that they try to sell to make players pay 20mil for a sky pop item cus they claim bot back in FFXI.
RMT are less prevalent in FFXI than in FFXIV because they changed how the system works. It used to be WAY worse.
I am saying there needs to be a player gil cap of 100mil held at any one time so that's 500mil if you use retainers + pay for 2; total 5. And the trade limit... market board or otherwise... 1 mil only (not including tax). This will limit a lot. The guild chest could have a limit of 100 mil as well.
Next raise the item to npc sell price accordingly.
