Huge Problem W/Loot Gluttony On JP Servers

True, but sometimes it's not always quite THAT simple. For example I do my daily low level on my ilvl 100 WHM. I have a level 15 Archer right now that could use some good archer gear that I might like to hit greed on just for that reason. But, since I don't have any tanks or melee DPS that I am working on, I wouldn't greed those because there's simply no need really. I'm fine without it.

If it's something I can't use other than for junking for seals and such, then I'll click pass in the event others, like me, have another class that can use it but aren't on said class.

Really it just comes down to how much you're willing to give to other players.

i played WoW, several years ago. At the times i played it(i have no idea if that changed till today), the proper use of Need and Greed was usual. And so i was shocked, that nearly no one got the meaning of those 2 buttons and just needed on everything.

It bothered me rly a lot, but after rethinking - it's not worth my energy - all i can do, is making the best out of it. If i am in DF with a bunch of lvl50 i'll also Need if i can need and hoping that everyone else is doing the same. If there is any lowlvl in grp that shares he same needable itempool as i, i switch to greed.

Yes people are greedy, but you have to remember they may need it for desynth, seals etc so why would they let up on a chance to further themselves for someone they don't know.

Yes you should greed if you don't actually need it, and I just pass on it most of the time. But its not worth the energy to think about it, that gear is nice but you easily do the game with gear from quests etc.

As others have said, it may not be as one-sided as you make it out to be:

* Dungeon Gear is a great way (and in some cases the only cost-effective way) to level Desynthesis.
* There's a huge need for Grand Company Seals for Relic Quests. Some people aren't crafters (to do any crafting turn-ins), and don't like FATES, so this is their way to get GC Seals.
* Lastly, if there's something, you, as a Low-Level really want, *ASK*. :)

I know in various DF parties in the past, if someone lower level asked the party if they could have a certain piece of gear for their job, we all PASSED. That's fine.

But don't assume that it's only "people being greedy," because it's not true. If anything, blame Yoshi P for adding emphasis back on Dungeon Gear to be used in a variety of manners again (besides just being worn) (Desynthesis, GC Seals, etc.).

I had absolutely no issue managing the GC seal requirements for my zodiac weapon rolling greed on things. I'm not a crafter.

Except it IS just people being greedy. The dev team added more reasons to collect items from dungeons, but they aren't holding a gun to your head forcing you to roll Need on things you don't actually need.

It's kinda funny, the Allegan Catalyst from CT is basically at garbage mat prices on my server now, if my retainer were to bring me something from a quick venture that was worth the same amount on the MB as an Allegan Catalyst, I would probably just discard it, that's how little it's worth. But when the run is over you'll see like 6/8 people rolled Need on it and 2 of us passed. And that's fine, they can have it I passed because I have no use for it, but it makes me wonder- are there that many people who really are like Oh wow Allegan Catalyst I can actually make use of this or sell it for 400 Gil- or do people just hit Need because they can. If that's how people roll on garbage mats it's how they'll roll on better stuff.

It's like that on Excalibur too. I was unaware of this until I actually trying to figure out what I could use it for the first time. (It's used for crafting ilevel 110 gear), and then kinda went ... oh... it's kinda worthless when the current BiS gear is well past ilevel 110. (There's no craftable gear after ilevel 110. Current BiS is 130/135. Crafting gear maxes at 70, BiS is 90)

So when V3.0 comes out, I assume that there will be new base level gear with different ilevel ratings, and new craftables that make everything available worthless overnight.

It's too bad we can't at least have something fun crafted from those Allegan Catalysts like for glamour or whatever, but all the current recipes must take expensive resources better invested elsewhere because the Allegan Calalyst sells for garbage prices and the gear that's crafted from it costs millions. (Like 1/3 of the price of a small housing plot on my server the last time I saw one available, as a frame of reference).

So in that regard, the whole thing with Allegan Catalyst = Megafail. We got one as a reward from initial WoD quest, one from weekly quest, and can roll on one at the end of a dungeon, and the most logical thing to do with it is to discard it vs. have it take up inventory space since supply BY FAR exceeds our ability to use it. Missed opportunity here in not having it able to be used for a larger spectrum of things (furnishings, glamour gear that doesn't require a fortune in demimateria, etc).

Historic evidence shows redundant materials get recycled in new, more important recipes later on(e.g Minium) Sticking to your logic, you'll be kicking yourself in the ass later when you could've easily had a stack of 99 Catalyst for no work.

The OP isn't talking about losing out on gear he's not on the job for. He's talking about losing out on upgrades for his current job because someone in i2000 gear is Needing on low level drops.

Part of this does rely on people working and playing well with others.

We're doing the dungeons too. We have every right to loot drops as the next person, regardless of gear level. Unless you're magically participating more than us, I'm going to need.

Call it being greedy if you want, but the system is working as intended. Who are you to say we don't have a right to need for the purpose of seals? Why is your gearing progression more important than my gearing (seals for relic) progression?

Threads like these make me want to need everything, always.
