Lack of Coil static? Hmmm!

I can't think of a single day in the past few months that I haven't seen multiple recruitment PF's up. Lots of statics are seeking replacements for people that didn't work out, and lots of players are seeking statics. I got really lucky that my SCoB stayed together for FCoB, minus a couple of members that didn't work out and were just recently replaced (they are friends so nobody wanted to do the deed). Previously, we'd struggle for several weeks to get through a turn because of people just not paying attention to the mechanics. Now that they've been replaced, we downed T10 within a couple of days, and then T11 within a week of the first time we entered the turn.

I guess my point is, even established statics might need someone. If that static happens to be on T10, they may be willing to help get a T9 clear. Hell my current static helped me and an FC mate clear T5 so we could join for SCoB.

Fun is subjective; it'll vary between player to player. Even if you do take the initiative in starting a static, there's the matter of keeping it together. I started one back in november (starting on T7). We've ran into numerous issues, including healers bailing out on us, tanks no-showing and dropping our of our static because they were looking for multiple ones (and lockouts existed during this time), and christmas hiatus.

That being said, when you do find 7 other like-minded players, raid content can be enjoyable, and there's nothing like the ecstasy of clearing content for the first time. On the other hand though, it's just not worth the headache of finding those 7-like minded people, and that just gets harder to do so as FCoB gets gated behind T5 and T9 (picking up someone that's on T11+ but not in a static, or getting someone up to speed and pray they will commit afterwards.)

Believe what you want, but I find coil very fun. I look forward to every reset so i can run them again. The fact that the fights are more challenging than any other content is a big part of that. I like that doing coil taught me to be a better player. I like having different clothing options.

But i think the thing i love most about doing coil is group-learning with a static tbh. Obviously, this may vary from static to static, but in the statics I've been a part of, pressure to perform is always in a very good place. There's enough of it there that people try their best, but at the same time, everyone understands that the group is learning together. Mistakes happen. Wipes happen (lots of them). Until suddenly they don't. Things just click in a really wonderful way, and the feeling of accomplishment after that first win (and often several wins after) is awesome.

Coil aside, having a static for other content makes the game so much funner. No more rolling the dice on ex primals and hoping 7 other randoms can play the fight. No more diving into dungeons w/ stupid dps who ignore mechanics that shouldn't be ignored. Crafting/gathering buddies (if they're into that). Farming without having 7 other ppl to outroll.

That's not to say that statics are drama free, but the amount of time and effort that my statics have saved me trying to accomplish my in-game goals has exponentially outweighed the stress they've caused me.

No argument with that. Ones I was getting at are the ones who do want to do coil (to be fair, in many cases be carried). Expecting others to activelly pursue them for their static and then complain on the forums that they can't find a static instead of directing that energy to socialising, making contacts to activaly find a astatic. If that doesn't work, starting a static. Also, many won't go through the learning process of a new static in FCoB they expect to be able to jump straight into an already established static and get the shinies from day 1.

So much this. I spend a lot of time with people in my static even outside of raid time. We are all in different FC's so the raid leader set up a linkshell for us and for good solid people that regularly sub for us. There's usually at least one person to run dungeons/trials with, farm light, etc. We'll get together as a static sometimes and do SCoB/EX primals, WoD/ST/CT for the weekly, and whatever else we feel like doing. A lot of us are avid crafters/gatherers so there's that as well. We kind of have a little crafting circle going, lol. ^^

This has got to be the number one killer of groups. I have led a team since BCoB and in that time countless members have come and gone. The persistence of the leader in recruiting is a prime factor of the longevity of the group. However it is super frustrating when every week someone is missing. Its compounded by the fact that a pug might get loot/tome/coat/twine your group needs more to progress. It started to get a lot better when i used the app GroupMe so everyone is in one giant group chat, if someone is late or going to be absent they can send everyone a message at once and none of our time is wasted wondering and waiting for someone to show up to raid that is otherwise priorly committed. To me that had been the most frustrating thing about leading. Attendance, and rerecruiting. You do catch a break sometimes and for awhile you get all 8 players that like playing together, play well together, and have fun together.

It takes one person to initiate, it takes one responsibility to lead while having a member who take things lightly.. Kick that member and hey.. Some people dont like it and leave as well.. People put this to make it sound so easy to lead where people have difference in language,personality, free hours, jobs and play style.. If people being lazy, there are reasons behind it..

You yourself have highlighted the main issue as to why most players cannot find a static: Most established statics are on farm status for at least 1-2 fights by now, and exclusively recruit other players who appear to be on farm status. Teaching a player mechanics that are hideously easy to succeed at when the rest of the group is in order is labeled as 'carrying' but what most raid groups won't admit is that it really means 'risk reduction for new recruits'.

Players not formerly in a static are severely hamstrung on what means and resources and connections they have to players in the right mindset to be in a static. Most don't even know where to begin with organizing a static and most that try fail within weeks due to lack of attendance or social connections for viable, capable replacements. Conversely, players who have already 'broken in' to having a static have less and less of those barriers due to experience in how organization works and social connections they form with other capable, trustworthy players.

Amusingly, those same statics regularly complain about a dearth of 'good' players to recruit into their groups while rejecting even half the viable population to fill them outright.

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy not unlike the US job market. Telling people to hit the bricks and find a job isn't going to help when how we make jobs happen is fundamentally flawed.

I think my static's been pretty flexible as far as this goes. Since we've only cleared T10 and T11 a couple of times, we're not looking for someone that has it on farm, though experience is a plus. We've tried out a few people for the static because we recently got rid of a couple of people that just weren't getting mechanics. The person we're trying out this week has no T11 experience, so the raid leader told him to just watch a few videos and jump into some learning parties to get experience at least through the first couple of phases.

Then we get to throw tethers at him and see if he flies or dies. :3
