FFXIV to FFXI

^This. I'm tired of people saying that FFXIV =/= FFXI. We know that but it wouldn't be a reskinned game to have the same game mechanics but within a new world/new storyline/new bad guy etc...

I would trade FFXIV for a 'new FFXI' anytime with respect to what we have now, minor the huge annoying time sink there was. On the same idea, I wouldn't have FFXI with updated graphics for sure either because I know the story, have finished most of them (quit before they release the WoTG new missions).

Same classes and game mechanics (combat, improved UI from the very functionnal FFXI one) doesn't mean FFXIV = FFXI. I would also tarde anyday my harlequin's parts for some RDM AF's part and not look like a clown anymore >.>

They're actually in a really good spot to bring SC > MB back to the table. The problem in XI was the need for certain classes to fit certain roles. With introducing the 'job system' in XIV they could really give each class the option to 'specialize' in two~ different roles. Think of Conj being able to play either BLM or WHM depending on whats available. THM could do RDM or BLM. Giving different jobs to melee classes would help them possibly 'unlock' different weapon skills to use for SC's. It's not perfect, but the odds of getting a good party together would be increased a lot if each class could fit multiple roles depending on whats available using the job system.

Hahaha I agree Carmillia, those harlequin equips are awful to look at. And I know the game is fairly new with all of these changes and such, but how long does it take for developers to make new looks for gear... Every one of my Archer pieces look the same just different color schemes. I suspect that this is coming down the line, they're just working on the game itself first.

Yep. FFXIV's recruiting system is vastly superior to any other system I've seen, the real problem is that players are too lazy to use it and would rather just do the following:

"/linkshell Hey, who's on and wants to do leves at Broken Water?"
*no response*
"/shout Hey, who's on and wants to do leves at Broken Water?"

People, please don't blame SE for a "broken system", blame yourself and your community for being lazy. The recruitment feature is one of the few things they did right with this game.

what good is a system if the majority dislikes it?
and vastly superior to any toher system you've seen... well... it is a very one-sided system. Not superior at all imho.

Calling people lazy or the community lazy because a feature is majorly disliked won't help the game.
Why can't people see that only a MASS of new players can save this game.
You won't be able to appeal to everyone ofc. But appealing ONLY to the 5% of the people who actually bought the game... isnt the way to go.

As much as I loved old FFXI, I could not possibly dedicate the same amounts of time to a video game anymore. I would however like to see FFXIV take some of the newer FFXI (abyssea and beyond) ideas.

Yes, FFXIV is not FFXI, but that doesn't mean FFXIV shouldn't copy a few things that were working really well in FFXI.

We have to face it. FFXIV is never going to be a main stream MMORPG. FFXI never was main stream also. Sooner or later the biggest part of the player base of FFXIV will be the FF(XI) fan base, so if they are smart they will take the good parts of FFXI and implement those in FFXIV to get some people over from FFXI.

FFXI was the #2 subscription based MMO up until 2008 iirc, so saying it was never main stream is wrong.
Also it's not just the FFXI fanbase that will be moving over to XIV, but the Rift player base that initially left XIV, as well as others that left. Don't forget the brand new players either! For the 7 years I played FFXI I always met new people that were just starting off 3, 4, and 5 years down the road of it's release who had never played it before.

@OP yes I agree and SC >>> MB based system would make the battle system far more interactive especially with the huge decrease in buttons pressed coming along with Auto-Attack. I feel if they could just revamp BR and make it so only WS can be stacked and a SC would be the result along with a MB (if stacked WS, WS, Magic) that would not be as skill and timing oriented as XI's system, but it would still make BR a relatively useful part of the battle system.

Just don't make us press an activation button. Let us BR while using WS's in order just like a SC.

I don't really care about FFXI anymore, I'm done with it.

I want FFXIV now.
