Playing an expansion as current content has been a lacklustre MMO experience

At the time it was a thing, I was a little frustrated with things like Cleric Stance as an example - But now I miss it. I miss being able to mess up, get too greedy, and I miss the damage boost. What's funny is Y'shtola still has it in Brave Exvius.

I don't like that they continue to make the choice for me. Just like how my AST Sect was changed to give SGE more reason to exist, and I won't even go over how they butchered my cards. Rotations are decided for us for every expansion, we're not privileged enough to come up with our own anymore.

You're right that there's a lot of improvement along with the streamlining. But it really just seems like an all or nothing with that behavior, everything has to be streamlined apparently. Nothing given up to choice.

Edit: I will admit that RDM feels amazing now. So they're moving in the right direction with some things. (Just wish I had even more utility, and even less rez power tbh)

Now this is a more honest answer that I like hearing from people. Not saying that current combat is amazing. I still enjoy the current game and I find a lot of aspects of its streamlining very comfortable for an MMO but as an old-school jrpg player, I do wish we had more freedom and customization. Things like what I mentioned before like elemental weaknesses and variety of debuffs (imagine Sleep actually being useful for mob pulls) and allocating stat points. I wish I could've experienced 2.0 for what it was in the beginning but I know as somebody who likes this game, I would easily get tired of all the work around you need to do for combat, especially for an MMO, and I think the team and playerbase also foresaw this when it came to the streamlining we have now.

I would like some manner of variety in my classes, for one I would like more buffs and debuffs for healers.

I dont miss the 100 quest slog ARR to HW AT ALL, I did it pre and post changes. TWICE. I still remember the absolute nightmare of the "Whiskaet feast" questline that had me tearing my hair out.

You were running from pillar to post all the time , a lot of it was pointless fetch quests. Bluefog / Cereleum Refinery / wherever, those stupid bomb quests?? You spent that entire time going around and around in circles searching for them, it got real old, real fast.

Couldnt fly back then, so you were literally climbing and running back and forth looking for them..that WAS NOT fun.

Lemme clue you in on something, I was on Crystal / Zalera back then in NN, when new players learned of that 100 quest requirement they absolutely BALKED, a lot of them DID NOT like it, we lost more than a few who found it a horrendous slog..which it WAS.

I am sure there is much you may miss, but I am fairly certain that if you were to ask others, their responses would surprise you , and not in a good way. I dont miss a lot of issues with HW, specifically having to level one class to get another, the cross class stuff that didnt work, the specialist 'whistle whilst you work" setup that was just plain CLUMSY..you seem to miss all the useless makework that very few others miss..if at all.

Scattered Scions quest? I did that. It wasnt fun, it was infuriating and pointless.

The selective pruning that made that set of quests bearable was welcomed by EVERYONE..I dont know a single person who misses that godawful mess. TBH, that 100 quest slog put a LOT of people off , and it was NOT popular AT ALL.

You might miss it....but I doubt anyone else does.

Save the nostalgia for WOW Classic..if you can still find anyone who actually plays it.

You really just refuse to see what's actually being discussed. I don't miss any particular state of XIV 100%, I just wish we continued to develop and gave more variety to the player. I'm not literally asking for 1.0 or ARR, so I'm not quite sure why you keep saying that when there's a more broad discussion being had about the state of the play and not any specific expansion as a whole.

There is NO comparison between 1.0 - 2.0 and Blizzards massive deletion of old and CURRENT content. I pointed it out..they deleted content and questlines less than three weeks after the launch of Shadowlands.

Both game removed content, you picture it as a bad thing, but when FFXIV do it, sudently it for the greater good and their sins are no more. 1.0 was bad, not because of it content, it was bad cause of poor optimisation, bad gameplay design and weird choices (jobs having their pre level 30 name, no chocobo mounts...). In fact, people loved the 1.0 story and quests. Then again you complain Scepter of the Shifting Sand being removed is something bad, so im gonna leave it at ; You are either trolling or just made some fanfiction of WoW in your head.

Loving the new design over the old one is opinion, yes. Class being butchered is facts. No matter how you look at it. class lost some skills, or even mechanics as time passed by, and not everytime did we get something new to compensate for it. Take AST, They lost their 2 phase to turn into a full time pure healer. This being good or bad is opinions, but it a facts they lost a good chunk of gameplay there.

Here's my actual wishlist if you're curious, and we can talk about MSQ if you'd like. These are really extreme and would basically need to be XIV:2
(This is regardless of technical or logistical limitations)

1. Split MSQ up. Remove 3.0 and 4.0, give them individual quest series' that won't impede on the Hydaelyn Arc.
2. All future Expansions should be a 100% self contained MSQ.
3. Bring back Classes, remove Jobs as they are. Allow any 2 classes to mix, you can pull any ability from the 2. (Similar to BLU?) This is how ARR should have progressed.
4. Add more 'fun' abilities (Why's BLU the only one with quirky stuff?)
5. FATEs should be instance random incidents that impact much larger sections of the map.
6. Hunts should be what Critical Engagements are now, no insta-kill trains. Synced difficult world content.
7. Sync should only adjust your stats, not abilities. (Shut up about balance, have some fun)
8. Level sync to party leader so I can play with lowbies and reward us both with similar % exp.
9. Remove unsynced rewards altogether (This should be used as a learning tool, not a farming tool)
10. Class 'kit' should feel complete at Lv50.
11. Let me gain exp for open world content.
12. 1.0 Gathering (More engaging)
13. Increase/fix the horrible server Tick Rate
14. Instanced Housing
15. Add Marketboards and Retainer Bells to ALL towns.
16. Let me give my Chocobo a full Class
17. Branched paths in regular dungeons. (Not rooms, actual branches)
18. Don't pre-determine all pack count in dungeons, let us learn.
19. Add more interesting trash mob mechanics. Force us to pay attention and use stuns/slows.
20. Unlock dungeons when you meet level threshold, don't lock them behind MSQ. (Their fault for designing MSQ this way)
21. STOP LOCKING EVERYTHING BEHIND MSQ!
22. Double or even triple the amount of various types of rewards we can receive from ALL content.
23. Let us collect all Retainer Items / Island items all at once, let us batch 'Accept' actions.
24. Make FSH more rewarding, stop treating it like a trash gather.
25. Give us Battlecraft Leves, but make them map agnostic. (You get Leve from an Inn, then random location in Eorzea)
26. Add puzzles and random rewards in open world
27. Make world creatures an actual threat.
28. Expand Guildhests to match current content to train on.
29. Reduce the overall MSQ quest count for expacs, put that effort into the side-quests in the world you built.
30. Give actual rewards for side-quests.
31. Cross-DC Duty/Party Finder
32. Equipping an item unlocks the glam, no need for glam storage.
33. Reduce the amount of Rez RDM can do - It's made content trivial.

This stuff would remove the need for systems like Deep Dungeon, Eureka, Bozja. Pushing content to the open world and fun should always be priority.

We had cross class spells, it was very unpopular and was removed for good reason.

What makes 1.0 gathering so special? Removing jobs completely? Do you have any idea of just how hard this will be..if its even doable?
