I have encountered some players that struggled with RDM but were willing to hear and learn the basic steps and some hints. I also encountered players that tried to shut me saying "sorry, I am [insert nationality here] I don't speak English". Then I proceeded to ask a pause to the party then translate my tips with a traductor. I know it probably wasn't a perfect message but-well, it happened to me twice and they always ignored the messages onward. It was not difficult to kick them.

My 50/60 Roulette today went something like this.

Queue and get dropped into in progress Amdapor Keep, 8 minutes in. I'm WHM because farming verity for mats with a WAR, RDM and NIN sprout. I open with my usual "Hi, hows it going?" to see if they'll tell me what the issue was and someone responds "Bad healer". I look, the person who responded is the tank. DPS are both silent apart from their own welcome.

I am already suspicipus, they haven't made it to a boss yet but don't have protect on which means they either wiped to trash or the healer was so bad they didn't cast it.

The tank pulls the entire courtyard before the first boss and I am confused because if you're speedrunning you don't need to fight all that. He pulls it right up to the gate for the first boss. The one enemy there turns into a Soul Collector which the tank doesn't grab so it aggros on me because of all my spam healing. I wind up Benedictioning myself at 715 health because he clearly isn't grabbing this thing back.

This is a level 50 dungeon, I don't know about tanks but as a healer I am missing a lot of important abilities at 50. My MP and his health both have their low points and he loses at least one enemy per pull (because he only pulls until there is a barrier stopping him) but usually I can manage. I am swiftcast+cure2ing myself like a boss.

This is also the kind of tank that will die if you stop casting Cure II long enough to move (because he gives no fucks about aiming AoE away from me) or cast Regen. At one point my health is about 3/4 and I eat an AoE in an effort to heal him thinking I can take it but I can't. I die and they are all dead in the following few seconds.

To his credit the tank doesn't get snarky per se, he does say "Why'd you die?" though, to which I respond "There were two Hound Lights on me so my health wasn't full and I ate the sword AoE to heal you." This doesn't get a response but he sprints away and does the same pull again. We make it easily because there are less enemies.

The point is while this was technically faster even with our wipe than a normal run it is not something that you can expect random DF healers to be okay with. The RDM stayed behind after the NIN and WAR left and told me that she didn't think the other healer was bad, she mains an AST and she said she wouldn't have been able to keep up with him. We wound up having a nice little chat about overpulling and the reasonable expectation to enter DF with.

To that RDM - thank you ma'am, you were wonderful.

That tank though... They need to reevaluate. To call someone a bad healer because you wiped with 15+ enemies on you is awful. If that healer ever sees this I gotchu fam, you aren't bad, that guy was. Also I got his comm.

Trying to help my bf tanking. I'm not especially good at advice but I try my best. Anyways, we decide to do Haukke Manor with me on CNJ and ah, our DPS was hm, less than stellar.

We have a SAM and a BRD pulling left and right for some reason. I ask them to stop. The BRD responds "non" twice, but we made it to the first boss regardless. I see my bf not dodging the AoEs and so I say "you have to dodge the aoes as well"

the BRD, for some reason, responds "mayonnaise" (???)

After we get past the boss, the SAM gets aggressive with pulling. The BRD for some reason starts laughing at me so I've had enough. If you want to be a clown? Then die like a clown.

I votekicked him.

The SAM, for god knows what reason, decides to pick up trash and starts running... around with it? Like, literally running around the dungeon with these mobs. A SMN joins and unfortunately gets attacked by the mobs. Like. What the hell?

We decide to lock the idiot out since we'd gotten to the second boss before he pulled the pack off. And thankfully, me, the SMN and my bf get through the rest of the dungeon without much trouble since this SAM was too busy being a tool.

This run wasn't fun.

Leveling up my SCH and I get slotted into Qarn in progress. 30 minutes in and they're still at this first boss, already pulled despite a healer not being there.

The SMN was alright, as was the tank, just a bit squishy, but the samurai...

They were spamming Enpi. Even after we told them how to do your basic H-J-G combo. They seemed to respond overly positive to our advice on how to play, almost condescendingly. It was...a weirdly frustrating and long run.

Just remembered an older story of mine, let me tell you the story, of the Derp lander of Enigma.

Doing Cutters cry for the third time since i unlocked it, trying to level up my main job Dragoon. During this run however we had a very strange healer, he never spoke, used protect or regen. We were wiping a lot cause the healer wasn't doing a very good job healing healing and we were getting kinda frustrated, that's when I noticed something, our healer wasn't a white mage...he was a Conjurer. When we noticed this we wondered what this guy was thinking, maybe he forgot to equip his crystal or something...that's what I thought at first until I checked his info...HE DIDN'T HAVE WHITE MAGE UNLOCKED! No but that wasn't the weirdest part mother fker had a lv 51 Gladiator, NOT PALADIN, GLADIATOR! When I told our Warrior and black mage about this we just wondered how the fk this guy made it this far with no jobs! Actually he had 2 jobs, Red Mage and Samurai which at this point I think he unlocked by complete accident! We had NO IDEA what to think of this guy, he was either trolling, had no idea what he was doing, under some sort of self proclaimed challenge, INSANE, or a FREAKING LEGEND IN THE MAKING! Well we didn't want to be mean so suffered with him for while through the dungeon but eventually we had to kick him, keep in mind the guy NEVER USED PROTECT and our tank was very frustrated with this and made his frustration well known. Now I just wonder where he is now, how many classes has gotten to level 50 and many jobs has he never gotten? Weirder still is that I looked up his character's name and found no results, its as if he never existed at all.

I'm sorry you had to go through that :/ It reminds me of bardam I had on my drg - we had sch and sam from the same FC, along with pld that was more or less fine. But the sam apparently had no idea what he was doing. I think I've seen him doing the three signs attack once through the whole dungeons. At trash mobs he seemed very confused, occasionally did the two signs aoe, but otherwise somewhat derped around. In party window at bosses his aggro meter was barely visible and thanks to my, uh, third eye, I was doing more than twice his dmg on drg. At first I was giving him the tether eye buff, but then I switched it to the tank, because even he did more dmg than the sam lol. And the sch was only jumping around for the majority of the run as well :/ At the last boss only me and tank remained standing and killing the thing too. It was not fun and took so long ;-;

So, last night my buddy and I queued for Levelling Roulette as WHM (me) + BLM. We get thousand maws of toto-rak (total crap IMO). We are paired with two sprouts, the tanks claims first run status. Ok, no biggie or so I thought.
First 3 mob trash pull tank is getting hit hard, really hard, really hard. I check his gear after the pull, he is wearing a Gathering chest piece, crafter gloves and belt, no helmet or rings, and his DoW pieces are between lv13 and 18.
I ask him about it and he states it is all he has. Ok, we then state, full clear, all chests to the tank. Unfortunately, the random ARC in group did not adhere to this and took 2 pieces of gear along the way.
I basically was relegated to heal only status for 90% of the run. Poison was absolutely wrecking him, he maintained aggro hardly ever. He did die once but I consider that an achievement given how woefully undergeared he was.

My experience with SB tanks in dungeons.

Stop mass pulling enemies when the healer isn't there and you're still in DPS stance, no one cares about your DPS, I'm tired of ripping hate after a couple weaponskills. Actually, just stop with the mass pulling. Two trash packs minimum. On top of that it's always the parties where I'm the DPS trying to AoE everything down while the other DPS is barely using their AoE rotation. I feel so bad for healers this expansion, you have my sympathy.

It's been a theme lately.

Queued into Ravana HM and one of the tanks says that he's new to the duty. I'm not sure who pulled Ravana immediately after, but new tank proceeds to hold him. At some point while the butterflies are dropping, newby ends up pulling Ravana towards a wall. I tell him not too close to the wall, but it doesn't seem like he understands what I mean. Sure enough, after Bloody Fuller, Ravana does his pushback and the newby goes flying through that hole that Ravana made that I warned about.

Funny thing is, one of the healers went flying through a hole directly across from it. It was an interesting run for sure.

At the end of every dungeon (roulette) where the other DPS snubs me (DPS) on commendations, I'm always trying to figure out why the other DPS would be so spiteful.

- Did they just forget to commend? Inexcusable. If they can find the Loot button they can find the Commendation button.
- Did they commend the healer or tank instead? Why? They're guaranteed to commend each other, usually. They're set already.
- Do they not know the unspoken etiquette of commendations in a solid 4-man rando group? Tank + Healer. DPS + DPS.
- Didn't they see me deftly burning TP on those massive trash pulls with AoE rotations? They think only casters can AoE well? How often will they see a melee as not-sucky at AoE as this?
- Are they embarrassed about dying that one time, and assume I won't be commending them? Hogwash. Next time it could be me on the floor.
- Are they jealous I outdamaged them on the most recent boss? I personally love getting outdamaged, it means the group's going hella fast, and that I have more to learn.
- Are they displeased with my damage output relative to theirs, because their class just happens to be really strong/weak right now?

To be honest, I kindof feel the same way. But I've been lucky on coms and I think it has to do random actions. I've been leaving dungeons with all 3 comms. and the only time it doesn't happen is when I'm in 8 man groups. I couldn't tell you what to do honestly, just recently I got all 3 comms for simply goading the rap out of warrior tanks this morning. At one point I was just being silly spaming it on them whenever I could just to see their reaction. It had to have made them laugh. This etiquette is apparently so unspoken that I've never heard of it.

I commend whomever I thought played best, whatever role they are on.
If nobody played above average, I usually don't commend anyone, and on the rarest of occasions I am blessed with a party where everyone is outstanding and I wish I could commend them all.

I agree. I've never heard of it or heard anyone complain about it before either. Pretty amusing that someone actually stews over something so trivial.
I was under the impression that the tank usually walks away with the coms unless things went badly and the healer had to step up. Didn't realize DPS com entitlement was a thing. Honestly, I feel that mentality completely goes against the point of commendations (not that there is much of a point).

If it is a thing, someone somewhere will feel entitled to it. I honestly can't tell if that post was a troll. There is honestly no point in gathering comms beyond 3000 of them, and you can easily get those without having to beg for comms or whatever.

I didn't even know this was a thing. I just assumed that tanks and healers tend to get coms. I know when I do a roulette, I either give it to the tank or the healer, depending on whether I'm DRK or AST. Then again, I don't really see comms as a big deal either.

Only time as a DPS I feel entitled to the comms is when on RDM I prevent wipes by throwing out res after res to the healers who keep dying. Do I get the comms? 1% of the time.

I always give the comms to the person I feel did the best job(be it a sprout that actually knows what they are doing, or actively seeks knowledge; or a veteran who was on point the whole time)

No one is obligated to commend anyone, tanks, healers, OR DPS. Commendations are a completely optional thing, and in no way mandatory. Sometimes I commend, sometimes I do not. Sometimes the commendation goes to a tank, sometimes to the healer, and sometimes to my co-DPS. Sometimes I commend a party member based on skill. Sometimes I commend based on glamour. Usually my commendation goes to an individual that bothers to respond to my "Hello!" at the beginning of an instance. Other times, the group was so bad I don't commend anyone, or the player I was going to commend does something to lose said commendation. If I'm about to hit my commendation challenge log for the week, and I happen to be rolling a level 70 job, I skip a commendation to get the experience on a job that's not level 70.

Point is, no one is obligated to commend anyone in a duty. It is an optional courtesy one can choose to participate in. At the end of the day, no one can see your commendations but yourself, and they aren't something that strangers tend to care about. I honestly don't care about if I get commendations or not; used to I would get miffed for busting my butt carrying a group/saving a group from a wipe and leave with nothing to show appreciation for my efforts, but now I just don't care. They aren't a reflection of your skill, so don't really treat them as such.

It depends for me.
When I'm on DPS:
- Did the tank or healer do an amazing job? Right, I'll commend them (it's usually easier for me to gauge tank/healer performance as I main it)
- Was the other DPS total garbage? If I'm on DPS and you perform abysmally as a DPS, I won't comm you. I've been known to refuse to comm groups who have been awful (though I've probably not been perfect either). OK-ish runs will still usually result in a comm being issued though. Please note that one or two deaths, doesn't count as abysmal performance to me. It would be things like Larryzaur's "Basically, Dragoon" video, where you ignore everything like AoE etc, in the pursuit of top DPS.

When I'm on tank/healer:
- Did the DPS do something amazing (such as keeping everybody topped up on TP/MP, targeting the right mobs, or me dying as a healer, RDM gets me ressed quickly, then heals the party until I can get back in the fray, etc)? Then they'll get a commendation. However, because I don't use a parser I can't judge based on your damage output.
- Was the tank/healer passable? They'll usually get the commendation unless the DPS did something amazing.

Sometimes though, things like a new player who has shown an amazing affinity for picking things up quickly and learning from it, will result in other guidelines of mine being bypassed.

As for your "etiquette", that's not an unwritten etiquette at all. It's just what you want to see, if I'm being brutally honest.

At risk of expounding on a throwaway rant I posted in a vent thread and making it seem like I'm actually busted up over not getting commendations on every dungeon run (I'm not)...

I agree 100%. From my own perspective any group that can stay vertical and plow through a dungeon at a brisk pace and not botch mechanics is such a group you described. They're very common, thankfully, and often I wish I could commend all of them. Been in some horrid DFs, though, so my bar is set pretty low. I don't think a DPS needs to be top-tier for a commendation. If their TP is going down sharply on AoE pulls, that's a selling point. If they're keeping up with the group and firing buffs off frequently, selling point. If the boss is dying hella fast, selling point, etc.

However you cannot commend everyone, sadly, and you have to choose one. This is where the previously-mentioned "etiquette" comes in. The fact that a dozen folks have so quickly stated that they

confirms some of my suspicions as to why I haven't received them sometimes. More often than not, I do walk away with a single commendation as DPS. This tells me that more than likely, more people have heard of this "etiquette" than not. And it's a little comforting that some folks may have just not known.

It's true that DPS are almost 100% disposable in a dungeon run (except on DPS check mechanics). If a DPS disconnects during a dungeon run, you can keep going. If both DPS disconnect, you can probably keep going. Not much is expected of DPS, so from my POV as a fellow DPS main, I commend DPS who don't take this for granted and put forth the extra effort regardless of how unnoticed their efforts go by the group at large. It's easy as a DPS to hit the cruise control button and faceroll through a dungeon while the others are busting their rears. We hear about those guys all the time in these kinds of threads.

Palace of the Dead, as another example on commendations, you just commend whoever you thought may have been the most clutch. It's almost always a healer in that case.

8-mans, I usually commend one of the healers (the one without death weakness) because I straight up can't DO what a lot of those healers do. I've tried 8-mans as healer and just can't keep up. To this day, not sure whether or not most of those wipes were my fault or not. Occasionally, I'll commend the other melee DPS in an 8-man if they stay alive and/or handle the LB perfectly, and if they don't run away from my DRG tether, which happens...frighteningly often.

No i dont.
My list as DPS is:
-always Healer if the Run was ok
-Tank only if the Healer was bad and he was doing his Job ok
-DPS only if Healer+Tank leaving immediately

If the other DPS is rly great,nice i like fast runs but DPS is a easy Job in DF

I was under the impression that you gave your commendation to the person you deem most worthy? Or, conversely, you could not commend if you feel everyone was scrubbin' it up real good?

I think everyone's getting upset about the "etiquette" thing. I must clarify, it's not written in stone. It's if everyone performs roughly equally well in the group and the decision is difficult/can't decide.

I've never heard about this either and it makes no sense to me. If someone is playing exceptionally well (or just really well), they get my commendation. If I'm a DD and I get a DD that does more DPS than I do, I usually give it to them unless the tank or healer was exceptionally good. If I'm a tank or healer I will give it to an exceptional DD (in DPS and party support), a tank who does smooth and big pulls and does proper DPS, or a healer who handles both healing and DPS well. If all party members are average or worse I don't usually give it to anyone. If all party members are really good and I'd like to give it to more than one person I thank them in chat for great performance.

So SAM as Trials Roulette, a few days ago, dropped me into Chimera.

The WAR told the DRK, "you MT". Fair enough, if a little odd since WARs have no DPS stance at 50. What's not fair was the DRK refusing to respond or pull or do anything besides stand there blankly. The silence stretched on and became awkward. The WAR didn't step up to do anything either, presumably still waiting for a response.

Finally, the WHM (it's always the WHMs who are impatient jerks, of course) threw out an instacast Aero spell without a word. Being the gallant sort, the RDM took aggro off the WHM and gamely tanked while the WAR got their shit together.

We survived and killed the thing, no thanks to any of the aforementioned tanks or WHM, and I gave the RDM my comm for tanking. RDM tank best tank.

I had a terrrrible leveling roulette yesterday, or maybe I was too sensitive. I loaded into Gubal NM on my PLD with a WHM, BLM, and SAM. First pull, went a little slow, and I didn't see any holy.. checked cast bars and saw the WHM wasn't dpsing. My HP stayed up, so I figured hey, I can just pull two groups if they want to heal only. I noticed also that the BLM used Blizzard 3 four times in a row while taking down the last monster, but thought maybe he was just thinking the mob would die quicker and didn't want to be left in astral fire.

So I pulled the next two groups and diligently cycled CDs, starting with heavy ones.. and noticed the BLM was still only using B3.. and the WHM decided to Medica, plus I did not have regen. My HP kept going lower and lower, and the WHM didn't throw bene or tetra. I tried clemency, but didn't make it in time, so I died. WHM ressed, I accepted, they died, so I ran back to them.

In killing the mobs that I drug, I did see the WHM casting Cure 2, but my HP was still low enough that I was healing myself. I think they were maybe healing someone else? They had a lot of 270 gear, so it's not like they were really undergeared. I asked the BLM if they knew their rotation and they said nothing.. kept with B3 and ran off once the last mob died.

I told them I wasn't going to put up with that, wished them luck, and ate the penalty. Didn't feel like asking the WHM what was up, either. Queued again later and had a smooth as butter Sirensong Sea run.

I do feel my words were a little short and could have been softer, plus I could have asked if bigger pulls were ok. But, the healing on the first pull seemed fine and it's not like the WHM ran out of MP, so no idea why they just essentially sat there and watched me die.

On comms, I give it to the nicest person. Usually the only one says hello back. Or if someone is new, they get it. I don't worry about them too much. And always comm. Unless everyone was an asshat. But that's actually pretty rare.

Anyway on that topic, this DRK I got in leveling roulette today was a trip. It was Halatali and first thing he says is, "Great no Grit". I understand, it sucks. But almost immediately started demanding Protect. He pulled the first group and I started using Scatter. He asked what I was doing. It's a new and its Halatali, probably never seen it. We keep going, he starts getting onto me about trying to tank. I wasn't, I was using my enmity reducing skills too. Then he said, you don't have Vercure so stop trying to tank. Wait, he knows Vercure? I looked at his search info. He had a Lv70 RDM and didn't know what Scatter was. Well we got to the chains and he didn't pull and was expecting one of us to do it and called us bots. It's been awhile, but don't tanks usually get them in case adds show up? Anyway, after that we kicked him. Got a new tank and finished the dungeon.

I was healing the Sunken Temple of Qarn as a White Mage.

We had a very squishy tank so I decided to use Fluid Aura when I could to reduce damage on him since I couldn't DPS at all otherwise, and he was melting like a stick of butter.

He immediately threw a tantrum together with his buddy, demanded I stopped and claimed it was messing up his rotation.

Now as far as I know, at that level rotations are either 1-2 or -1-2-3. Shield Lob was never required on the targets since it didn't make him lose aggro.

This tank stopped taking mobs I got aggro off and stopped using flash for aoe pulls just so I got aggro.
It got to a point where I had full aggro and he and his friend just walked off because it was me who had aggro and not them.

He ended up continuing his tantrum till the golem boss, at which he sat down and refuses to enter until I swore I would stop using it. I never gave in and he sat there for a good hour or so while I played on my phone and made some food.

IMO, I think you could have reported the tank or kicked him. I believe what he was doing (not entering until you decide to not use fluid aura) was pretty much disrupting gameplay.

Actually, I'm almost glad he didn't. The moron tank wasted a full hour while the OP played on his phone. If he had been kicked, he would have had an instant requeue.

I tend to just leave instances now if everything is fairly normal.

But sometimes, when the planets align, I get matched with lady Roe Warriors who are basically goddesses. They take no damage, while swapping stance back and forth for holy spam chain pulls, never lose aggro, and use every single ability they have. All they need is a regen.

Inspirational. Instant comm.

I wish I could post these with the names.
Sad thing is this guy had 70 mnk already.
I was doing more than double his dmg and he pretty much failed every single mechanic in the dungeon.

Oh I did report him afterwards though. I didn't want to kick because it would hurt me more than it hurts them considering it wasn't even close to the exit.

If I was in the run I would of kicked the healer. You just do not use a move like fluid aura in a dungeon because it screws up positioning for AoE. Especially in a dungeon like sunken temple of qarn because you have to position certain mobs in certain areas to progress in the first place.

Also what is to say that the "moron tank" was not also playing on his phone? The two got into a anger contest over something you simply do not do in a dungeon excluding any particular instance where you have a set of mobs that include two or more ranged mobs that cannot be conventionally gathered easily with the rest of the pull and thus the use of a knockback ability can put the ranged mobs on top of each other for the pull.

What the healer was doing was disrupting gameplay, just like the tank, and the healer is the one who started it.
