The problem is that Fire IV doesn't refresh Astral Fire, so after 2-3 Fire IVs, you have to throw in a regular Fire, which is 180 potency, or just a Fire II. Also, Fire II hitting more targets gives it more chances to score direct or critical hits, but that's unpredictable anyway.

Whatever the case, in Sirensong, a BLM's AoE rotation should also include a Thunder II every once in a while, whether on proc or hardcast, and Flare.

I'm a recent WoW convert - after almost 12 years - and you are correct but in fairness a lot of the things that 'saved' ARR were lifted straight from WoW. What is interesting, I'm finding, is the way ARR seems to be going through the same process as WoW did over the years – things (not necessarily dumbing down) but changing to accommodate a more WoW-eque design ethos. Either way SE has my money now.

Yeah I know the Thunder II and Flare also, was only pointing out why you might not see BLM using Fire II as often since SB. For getting Astral Fire back after 2-3 Fire IV yes of course if there is still 3 targets it is better than Fire I, but yeah it confused me at first when I saw BLMs not using Fire II very much so I figured some others may have not noticed why just like I did. I didn't figure it out till I played BLM some on my BF's character and saw the potency changes.

I actually got chewed out by 1 dps and a healer clearing out a dungeon during leveling roulette while capping my pld. First time since v1.0 of the game that I hear someone get mad over getting exp. Here I thought I was being nice, as a tank, to clear out all the mobs from a leveling dungeon, for the dps that probably had be queu'd for 30 minutes.

Lesson learned i guess? Stay classy.

Had a PLD in temple if the fist who face pulled and didn't use flash, the day has come, duty finder randys have finally broken me, I must take my leave and only queue with fc members. Joking but seriously how can you get to 70 and be so bad.

Had a rage inducing moment in o3, my co healer was about as useful as a chocolate fire guard, was dead 50% of the fight, I ended up carrying half the dps and him. I roll for my loot (you know where this is going) but floor healer wins. I leave that instance with 0 coms too, I stole my fc members for every run after that, never.again.

Last mini story, got Susan on trial roulette, decided to MT and during the sword phase I learned something new. Did u know you can fail the sword phase and wipe if your dps is so bad? I didn't but now I do, you have 25 seconds to kill it, after 25 sec on attempt 1 it got to about 50% hp, I just let Susan kill me at that point, free me from this realm mighty kami. Second attempt we get it down, just, but the bad dps stretches the third phase for maybe 5-10 mins it felt like eternity. Dps and one healer kept eating dirt, poor whm was carrying them and as MT I just got to watch the train wreck in slow motion. The SAMs kept getting cosy with me during stormsplitter, may they find peace in the afterlife. At one point so many dps died that the thunder aoes started aligning with me so I had to take Susan on a magical mystery tour every time they appeared. I was helping with healing as much as clemency can, reprisaling any arena aoes when I could to help my poor whm. We ended up seeing 1 lb3 and 2 lb1s the dps was that bad but we cleared it, somehow. Honestly if your dps is so bad you can't nuke the sword you really need to check your rotation out guys...

Depends on the dungeon and their current level. If you get Satasha as a lv50+, you will want to finish the dingeon ASAP, as the bonus exp comes from the last boss. If you get Doma's castle as a level 67, then the difference is neglible.

Yep. It also never hurts to ask "Do people want a full or quick clear?" - usually speaking people speak up and give their preference. I tend to ask that only if I see someone not level synced though. If I see everyone level synced, I tend to assume quick clear.

I was spamming a lot of Omega (normal) on WHM last night to try to get a few parts to get my healer up to i320. I got paired up with a lot of WHMs and most were okay. Some were unfamiliar with the fight so I had to carry a burden a bit more but I didn't mind that either and I would expect that from any first timer too.

Then I ran into this one WHM in O1N who had VIT melds in their accessories. I think they only had a Regen on the MT for about 35% of the fight and using very few of their cooldowns to help me - effectively forcing me to solo heal the entire fight and focussing their own efforts on their "MUH SUPER DEEPS!" mentality. It was very stressful for me because people were taking vuln stacks everywhere as well due to unfamiliarity of the fight. Normally this doesn't bug me but what pissed me off the most about this particular healer is that you would think VIT melds = player who raids and knows how to optimize for fights and work with their partner to minimize healer stress. Nope, it became a "I'm not gonna give a rats ass about the party and just focus on being selfish". [edit2] I'm glad we have a cross-world contact list where we can see players we instanced with recently and have the option to blacklist them if we don't really want to deal with them in PF. I did that so fast with this WHM it's not even funny >>;

This PLD would actually run behind the boss and just kinda keep zigzagging behind the boss for like an additional 10-15s before finally pulling the boss. It was so.... quaint. >>; It almost felt like he enjoyed the weapon drawn sprint animation for PLD (which I will admit I love it too, lol)

Alright I've got a few stories.

First one has no screenshots, but I was doing Bismark HM for trials roulette as a Red Mage. Normally for fights you can fling yourself off the platform, I take off Displacement from my bar so I don't fall off the edge. There were two other red mages in the party, and inevitably, one accidentally throws them self off of the edge. They even commented about it in Party Chat earlier with "Oops. I messed up." We were doing fine until after the second phase with the two adds and somewhere around trying to damage Bismark's corona we came up short for DPS, and thus, we wiped. The DRK tank decides to say "I wouldn't expect any less from red mages. Nah man I'm done for the night. Enjoy your ques." and then he on purpose threw himself off the edge and went offline. We somehow managed to 7-man Bismark the second time around. Nobody threw themselves off the edge, nothing. I commended the tank who stuck with us and many victory poses were emoted afterwards. :D

Second one I was dragging my FC mate through Expert Roulette. We get Kugane Castle.

So, not wanting to put up with this pleasant gentleman, I decided to bounce, and my FC mate shortly followed. I reported, then blacklisted him of course.

Third story was an interesting case. I wanted to farm Shisui for the swimsuits, and I already had the caster one, and my WHM was the closest one at that level.
So I bugged my FC mate once again, and we hit up Shisui. Only to be greeted with this lovely tank:

She wasted five minutes of our time. ._. Look, I get it. DF is full of jerks, but that don't mean you gotta take it out on the rest of us! Since another 30 minute penalty wasn't worth it, we did kick her. I blacklisted, too.

Hate getting Sastasha, mostly because it's boring as all hell(I sometimes get my tanks killed because I'm DPSing in it) but also because the EXP sucks per kill. That, and trying to gear up for the later dungeons isn't easy when you get nothing but low leveled stuff(still wearing Augmented Shire - full set - on my 65 WHM)

Try running Bardam's Mettle. If you run the dungeon CLOSEST to your level you're guaranteed a piece of gear appropriate for your class.

Oh, I'm aware of doing that. It's more for the roulette which gives 1m+ daily. Some days I only have time to run a few roulettes, and I try to do the leveling one daily for whichever class I am leveling.

Quite rapidly...went from level 28 Botanist Saturday night(when I decided to start leveling it again) to 43 when I went to bed. Got to 53 yesterday just doing leves waiting for queues to pop.

I remember a long time ago I was running Aurum Vale - I'd done it before and knew what to do, but one of my teammates that I had been paired with was either being a troll or had no idea what to do on the one boss where you ate fruit every few stacks (my friends always recommended at 2 or 3 stacks).
Everybody else seemed to have at least a decent idea of what to do, and until then the run had been going absolutely fine. This dick ran around the boss arena eating all the fruit as soon as they spawned, and I think by the time I managed to get one my stack was at like, four or five. To my recollection we only barely made it through, no thanks to that guy.

I had a Monk in full level 50 af go mental and fake DC Cutters Cry in levelling roulette because the tank was skipping mobs in the oasis sandpit areas after the first boss.

I mean, you're obviously at least level 50 these 7 mobs are literally not worth your time in a roulette.

Before his fake out he stood outside the second boss calling us all names while we three manned it... oddest reason to rage I've seen in a while.

The funniest part is, he could always go back and fight them AFTER the dungeon ends. It's how I've gotten people their grand company hunting logs completed for the dungeon after accidentally skipping over the relevant mobs in the dungeon.

Whether he'd survive is another thing entirely.

I got menagerie in the menagerie roulette today, and was healing. Long story short, a bunch of people stood in the stupid and died. The LB bar was full so, of course i do that and bring everyone back, but what i didn't see was the little message flash across the screen "Shinryu gathers wind aspected aether". SOOOOOOOOOO

For what it's worth, it doesn't have to be the dungeon closest to your level. Any level 51-59 or 61-69 dungeon will pop a piece of gear right into your inventory on clear.

To contribute to the thread myself: my last two trial roulettes have been Titan Hard, which I actually kind of like getting every once in a while to break up the Ramuhs/Shivas/Moggle Mogs.

As is oft the case for my roulettes, I queued in with some friends for the first: me (BRD), a WHM, a DRG, and a WAR. I don't recall the party composition otherwise except that the other tank was a PLD. So we load in, see what we're in for and basically give a collective "oh man" before the pull. WAR friend pops Defiance, PLD pops Sword Oath, and we're off! Things go well for a few moments... until DRG friend falls off to one of the first few Landslides. Whoops. She apologizes, we all have a lolDRG laugh in the party chat (thanks for being such good sports, everybody!), and we continue on with the fight. At some point, WHM friend goes sailing off the platform. Whoops. We push on through the heart phase, and people just start dropping. Towards the last bit of the fight (the last 10 or 15% I'd say?) we're left with me, the two tanks, and the other healer. WAR friend continues tanking like a boss, PLD is on-point with breaking party members out of gaols, the... AST, I think? is keeping us all alive, and I'm DPSing my heart out. Things look good until the AST is gaoled; PLD and I free them ASAP -- but they immediately eat a Landslide targeted at the PLD before they even have a chance to move. Whoops. With Titan almost dead and figuring I have little left to lose, I use the first BRD LB3 of my career and manage to land the killing blow just as WAR friend dies. That was a butt-clenching run, but it was really fun, haha. It was nice to walk out with some comms as a DPS, too.

TL;DR: Titan (Hard), only two people left alive at boss kill were myself (BRD) and a PLD.

My second Titan (Hard) roulette went much the same, actually, although this time DRG friend didn't fall off until about two-thirds through and WHM friend didn't fall off but instead died to a stack of Weights of the Land... and never got Raised by the other healer for some reason; they kept raising DPS instead. I believe the fight ended with myself (SAM), the two tanks, and the other healer alive this time. A little smoother, for sure. Was disappointed I didn't earn a single comm for being the only DPS to manage to stay alive, though, haha.

I know I say this pretty much every time, but once again, not horror stories -- just mildly interesting ones. I had fun on these runs!

While that is true, it's gear from that dungeon that you get. Not gear that is suitable for your level(did a Vault run as WHM, 63 at the time, got piece of gear from the Vault, so not suitable for replacing anything).

That is indeed true as well, haha. I guess that would be all that's relevant for gearing up theoretically, although it's good to know that it works for all the leveling dungeons if, for example, you wanted to use a piece you could pick up on your WHM for your AST or SCH that you were still leveling. But I acknowledge that that situation wasn't a consideration in the original discussion, too.

There are only 3 trials I get in the trial roulette any more: King Mog, Shiva, Hildibrand.

There are only 2 dungeons I get in the 50-60 roulette: Snowcloak and Keeper of the Lake.

In levelling roulette, I'm lucky if I get anything other than Shisui or Sirensong as a tank. As a healer, it is always Dusk Vigil.

Not a gripe at anyone in particular -- I know more new players need these dungeons now -- but please, DF. I'd even take Aurum Vale at this point.

I have to admit, there is something about seeing my main job played poorly that just... infuriates me. I'm not talking about dropping Enochian occasionally; those are just minor mistakes. I'm talking about the kind of idiocy that you only see from someone who doesn't understand the very basics of the job. I've always thought of BLM as a job that's really rewarding if you play it well - it never runs out of resources, even if you've just died and ressed, and the DPS keeps flowing when other jobs might be out of MP or TP.

So I ran 50/60 roulette as RDM. Sastasha HM with PLD, WHM, and BLM. Oh god. WHM is mid-50s, BLM is 60+ in full 260 Shire gear, and at this point that just screams jump potion to me. Which is a cue for me to do a pre-emptive double facepalm in real life.

PLD pulls the first 3 mobs and stays there. I'm throwing out Scatters... and this BLM is throwing out single-target Fires. Why should anyone expect anything more from a BLM, indeed? Thunder II and Flare are obviously spells that I dreamt up in a fever-nap, since this BLM never cast either of them throughout the entire run. Thunder III? Perish the thought!

I saw them leave Astral Fire on in between fights and let it fade, when they could've used Transpose to regen MP. I saw them hardcasting Fire III and using Transpose when they had enough MP left to cast more Fires, let alone Blizzard III. There might have been more, but I probably didn't see it since I was also busy concentrating on my own DPS.

Whatever the case, I just really don't have enough words for someone who has all the skills of the best AOE DPS job in the game at their disposal, and doesn't use half of them. There is just no short way to explain everything they are doing wrong.

Sounds just like when I was leveling WAR. Nothing but Cutter's Cry in the leveling roulette from the moment it was able to enter, until it hit 60. So sick and tired of that place still, and WAR was my 5th or 6th class to get to 60.

Duty Finder’s Parties is NOTHING like a Static Party.
Read: “I don’t put any TRUST in you, DFPs. My faith goes to SPs.”

With DFPs, to read the Party Members’ actions at 1st pull.
Read: ”To go with the FLOW, that’s my MOTTO!”

That gives the Big Picture about how the run will be, and how to adapt to it.

Read:”You 1-2-3-HATE-GATHERING who can’t hold nothing! Think you are a TANK; you toy?”
Healers should… Sleep the remaining mobs?
DPSs should… Target that tank’s mob only?

Read:”You HELLER that priorities DPSing! Think you are a HEALER; you hellbringer?”
Tanks should… Pull small to take least DMG?
DPSs should… put a quick end to weaker mobs first?

Read:”You WANNA-BE-TOY that loves going 1on1 on mobs. Think you are a DPS, you ego-tripper?”
Tanks should… be a hate hungry?
Healers should… not encourage the trip with Cure?

If the situation is unpleasant, there always the “Vote Abandon” button.
Then, the DFP’s members can be thank for their time.
And a wish for their success in their upcoming endeavors can be left.
Read: “/point <t> where is “t” targets “Hall of the Novice”. That’s where you should Duty next.”


If the situation is intolerable, There always the “Leave” button.

Then, the DFP’s members can be excused, something that requires your immediate attention came up.
Read: “The tolerance to mediocrity has reached its pinnacle.”

And a word can be left (please, behave) to announce that you will no longer continue the current activity: “Goodspeed!”.
Read:”IPCONFIG a word as well as a nice command. If you don’t know why, you are the reason people goes “Offline”.”

Sastasha and Copperbell Mines, about all I can say for leveling. Past 4 days these have been the only dungeons I have gotten. While I am all for an easy dungeon I am so sick of trying to get back into the groove of a class (currently leveling NIN, hit 61 a bit ago) and getting stuck with a 1-2 combo with like 1 skill to use outside of it ><

I enjoyed it as much as standing up at 5 AM on a sunday morning to babysit my neighbours 4 year old son while washing the dishes and listening to Justin Bieber on the Radio.

Well... This time i bring a funny story about a fail i made with RDM.

You see, this was in the release of Omega Savage. Our FC does not usually do savage, and neither do we because... well, we dont have a static of the sorts. Also, in my group there are some who are reluctant due to past experiences with people from the Salt Country. This time i managed to get 2 or 3 to come with me to try OS1 the very first day using the duty finder. Nearly 1h later we found a group, and a nice one at that. Everyone was a first timer and friendly, so that made the run, even if we did not clear, a lot more fun and relaxed.

We wiped several times while we were discovering the mechanics. One of those times i noticed i had both Black/White Mana at +80. The boss had just use an attack, so i knew i had a time window to make my combo and deal some serious damage to him, so i proceeded with the melee combo after using Embolden. Before deciding over Verflare/verholly, i used Displacement to reposition myself away from him.

I jumped off the arena by inches.

Before everyone -myself included- bursted of laugh i realized and said out loud: I just did a Dragóon with RDM.

Me: I've done this a billion times. I've got this.

Doesn't matter what it is, from Tam Tara to SephEX. The second I get cocky, I die in a dumb way. So I was solo tanking Sophia for birds. TBN all the things! First couple of runs I spent relearning the fight. After a few quick runs I got cocky. She did her tank swap mechanic and I popped TBN. She followed up with the giant head.
