OP doesn't appear to have been to Coil 1 or 2. Has no idea what he's talking about since he has only done simple content.
100% correct. Wow pretty much uses the same hotkey battle system but with a 1.5 gcd. The rotations are also similar or more complex than what we have here and with more utility/cc/situational abilities. 2.5 sec gcd just makes the game easier and also possible for console users.
BTW in not advocating a change of gcd but implying that a longer gcd makes combat deeper and more strategic is flat out wrong.
While I have enjoyed the fast pace of MMOs with minimal or no GCD, I think that the current system fits the game well. Removing GCDs does often benefit players with good twitch reactions, but as often as not it just leads to players mashing the same buttons even harder and faster than they do already.
I would love to see GCD removed and each skill get its own cool down. It would make combat more tactical and less button combo rotation mashing.
GCD is really a blight on the MMO-scene. Its a crutch to rely on when you don't want to put in the effort to make a truly awesome combat system.
Unless you're a PLD. Pretty much all of our non-GCD abilities are reactionary. I wish there were more non-GCD abilities that could be used proactively across all classes, but overall I don't mind the combat system.
This is true. I can't remember any MMO that had so many abilities on a global cool down. Or if there was a GCD, it was short and very specific.
