Seems like people forgot this was a bait post.
Teach me your ways, OP!
This thread needs to be purged wtf
Can’t you just opt out if you find someone has been putting parses of your personal dps up? I don’t think it’s a big deal either way, because the kinds of people who get really anal about percentiles seem to be few and far between.
Ignore this thread please. OP self-necro'd it to stir the pot some more. Best you can do is just report it for being necro'd and it will go away.
You can hide your logs apparently but I think that would only look more suspect. And there’s really no other way to match play styles and skill levels without said website. I’d much rather ffxiv added their own damage meter in game so people could strive to get better. Not having one has only fueled the fight club mentality of rule number 1. Awarding people for doing good and or showing people they are lacking wouldn’t alienate anyone. In fact I only believe a damage meter in game would bump up the overall skill level across the board because who actually “wants” to be bad at a game they play? SE’s stance on “including everyone” has only exacerbated the problem by never showing people they are “doing it wrong”. I venture to say most the Mentors out there are grey parsers that don’t know any better. At the very least let the quality of the players’ play style be graded for them alone to see.
Is it really a problem though? I feel like this whole thing is a nontroversy.
As I said before, all DF content doesn't need to be parsed and as long as half the group isn't asleep, you're gonna get through. Who cares what people think in a DF, you group with them once and probably never see them again.
If its for non-DF content like PF, Statics, FC, or whatnot.. then well people ought to be allowed to pick and choose whom they group with. That's a consent issue there. If someone doesn't consent to grouping with you outside DF then its immoral to try to group with them.
I don't personally like parsers. I don't like being shamed for not being "good."
Now I put "good" in quotation Mark's for a reason.
As long as you're clearing content you are good enough. Some of us are trying our best - I'll be dead honest - I tank, but I don't optimally use my defensive ability cooldowns. I primarily only use 4 - Fortification/Arm's Reach/Sheildron/Hallowed Ground
Is that optimal? No. Does it work just fine? Yes.
People (thankfully a minority) already demand certain things and will vote kick you if you can't do it.
Example:
Wall to wall pulls.
I can handle a double pull, maybe even a triple pull, ONCE I managed a wall to wall pull.
I'll be honest, I'm not comfortable with the last kind of pull. I'm afraid I could lose aggro, miss an enemy and not realize it, etc
It becomes really stressful to me.
I'm supposed to play the game to relax. To be yelled at for not doing mega pulls is really disheartening and I've been asked to leave groups because my method takes a little longer than they like (really, maybe an extra minute or two total time for the entire dungeon isn't a big deal people) and I would hate for these people to start yelling at me for being less than optimal.
I'm doing my best AND I've only been playing a month AND I don't come from WoW or other highly competitive MMOs and people who use these tools against other players tend to be jerks.
You are doing great. Simple as that.
Anyone using parsers to judge others in DF is a cancer. Those using parsers to judge themselves however are using the tools properly. What I find ironic is people who think you ought to do wall to wall pulls and misuse parsers are trying to act tough. They're not. They're in DF and not in a Savage raid. They would get their tails kicked in a Savage. In savage they'll be required to do more than press 3 buttons in a simple AOE rotation, and they'll have to stay alive due to mechanics. And they won't see the juicy numbers due to trash pulls not being the normal standard. They'll have to maintain complex single target rotations while surviving.
Ironically, I believe you would do just fine in savage in comparison to those eltists that give you issues. You know your abilities, and you appear to be on the right side of the Dunning-Kruger effect (you're better than you think). If you've only been playing the game for a month, you keep doing what you're doing. You'll be fine.
