I support Male Viera for a playable race. I hope this thread gets back on track too.
Aren't you the same dude who complained that your Hrothgar was getting picked on or whatever?
And yet you're coming on here starting crap and picking on people race choices.
You and Ohmy are just going around the bend over and over to irritate people.
Stop already.
Just gonna add this to spark from M. Viera love that we need instead of nonsense fighting.

How about you read what I wrote? I said you can make their faces softer looking, but their bodies are not feminine. There's no "can be feminine looking" when it comes to their physique.
It's not a matter of not liking something you say, but rather a disagreement. No need to get defensive.
Here's some more male viera art I found by twitter user @psyblix

edit:
I've seen some art floating around from that zine, and it's good art. Although I have to admit, I don't really like seeing male viera in risque poses or clothing, so it really wasn't for me. I should have expected that from something called Hare(M) though lol
I was hoping Hare(M) would be something that could be presented to SE in support of the addition of male viera, but because of the risque content in there, and the fact that mostly japanese business men would be looking at this, I don't think it's suitable for presentation...
I hope that if another zine is created in the future, it will be more PG so that it can be presented to the devs.
I'm confused.
Are people now asking for Boy buns to basically be flat chested versions of female Viera? Like, what's with this talk?
Yes, outside of Highlander/ Roebros/ Hrothgar you CAN MAKE any male in this game look cute/ soft/ feminine like some Kpop boi. That's because they have slim builds that allow for that as well as face options that can make them look that way and gear options that can give off that feeling. It's an option, I can see some cat boi running around with the pissed off manly looking face looking GARR af and I can see a lil soft kitty boi pass right on by in his best truck stop teen get up.
Now IDK why people would want that to be the only option or the default shape for them. I personally find this obsession with their body shape to be on the gross side ... they're gonna be tall and skinny and basically a better looking Elezen with black coded face features like the females IF the devs bother making them happen. Which means you'd def have the option to make them look more ore less manly depending on face.
Like Yoshi said, I personally think "whats the point of having another handsome race when the only difference is the ears" and would prefer (IF they happened. I think it's not gonna happen ... still waiting to see if they address the Hrothgar hair sht whenever they update things) that they look like this. Full on animal heads with fur. Would be good for people who wanna play a furry dude whose not a beefy boi and that kinda inclusion to the line up would be worth the effort. But that's just me.
I like how people are using this thread to be toxic when the entire purpose of it, as proven by the title and first post, is to generate support for removing the gender lock. Well done, toxic ffxiv fandom.
Anyway, to the actual subject at hand, there was a lore blurb on the Viera even before ShB dropped. And they gave their reasons for why they didn't release two full races.
1. They have stated that after these, there will be no new races in ffxiv. Likely, the higher ups decided this, which the devs didn't seem to happy about. So they made two entirely new races as placeholders, getting both their foot in the door, as it were.
1.a. Fans demanded Viera, and have been demanding for years. We are the customer, and good business means making customers happy.
1.b. the devs wanted to make a more beastly race. They knew this was their last shot to do so, and they settled on another race that already existed in the franchise, the Ronso.
2. No one has stated outright that there will never be male viera or female hrothgar. My opinion is they simply didn't have time to create the entire concepts of both, and given the reaction of the playerbase to the lack of it, it is more than likely this will change in the future.
3. They have stated no new races, which means whatever new things they add will be related to what is there already. It's even possible that this was a marketing ploy to garner more interest. Nothing like creating conflict and then 'cater to demands' to draw more people in. Imagine all the fantasias they'll sell to people who 'finally get what they want'.
4. Character modeling. Just like with the whole headgear situation with the viera and hrothgar, they'd have to go through thousands of models and modify them for the new genders. Tbh, I'd rather they finish that on the female viera and male hrothgar first. This fact shows they rushed it, so they need to finish development on these before they bring the others out.
In closing, tl;dr, there's many factors why we didn't get male viera and female hrothgar. These are the most likely points, and all will no doubt be corrected in the future. It may be 5.25, it may be 6.0, but if they removed gender lock for male miqo'te and female roegadyn, they can do it again for male viera and female hrothgar.
Had fem Viera also been more beastly, this could have been a fun option...but when the ladies look like 12's humanoid supermodels, it'd be odd to pair them with something non-human. We already have a race where the female and male look silly standing next to one another.
I disagree. You can make their faces look like that, but not their body type. In my opinion, all the male races, aside from lalafell, are well built. Including elezen and miqo'te. Putting aside male viera entirely, I feel like this is a body type we are lacking, and I'd like to see it included one day.
I just want to clarify that I wouldn't mind if male viera had the physique of a kpop idol or something, but I never said that was likely to happen.
Here's the information we can go off of right now:
Honestly, I don't think a body type like Omega M is that far off the mark from how male viera were described. I think Omega M's physique, which is still toned and strong looking, but slender, would be suitable. That's just my opinion.
Sounds like a personal problem. What are you trying to imply exactly? You get people talking about butt sliders for females, but this crosses the line for you? I mean, was this comment even necessary?
I don't care what they look like honestly. I know the team will do a good job either way.

Viera females original were beautiful but had more monster features like big claw hands and big feet. The team will clearly do whatever the want... so sit back and enjoy whether they be big or small.
Considering the amount of work that current Viera and Hrothgar need, I doubt we would see anything before 6.0. I speculated that if they went to work on fem Hrothgar and Male Viera at the time the xpac dropped and focused on it intensely, maybe 5.3 or so at the earliest. In reality, 6.0 would be likely considering itd be a selling point and the turn over time for the races will likely be quicker after they work out the bugs from the current models.
Well, yeah, no disagreements there. Ultimately it'll be up to Yoshi P, Matsuno?, and the devs. As it should be.
Since female viera look great, I think if male viera were to come out, they would look just as good.
If male viera were to get added at all, I would say 7.0 or maybe even later personally.
Yasumi Matsuno, the creator of the Ivalice Alliance games (or at least those that codified the IA games) and creator of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, which made Square hire him for FFT and the rest is videogame history, one of my personal heroes.
Also, I'm thinking 6.0 could be when we'd get them considering the amount of work that would go into making M!Viera/F!Hroth, and the armor sets will be stuck at the QA level for quite a while. Considering that, it's 6.0 or when the game stops getting major content patches, as a way to entice back/retain players.
I would say 6.0 or bust due to the amount of work that would be required.
Take female Viera and male Hrothgar for example the amount of limitations on them at the moment yet compare it to what would be required for a 6.0 release of the same amount of work 2 genders model, fitted to gear, unique hairstyles, emotes, mount positions etc etc which would be everything up to and including 6.0 (1.0 stuff included) there will be the same limitations if not a few more especially if they keep the current work schedule which they don't seem to be changing at the moment.
Now add everything from 1.0 to 7.0 and it looks bleaker and bleaker as time goes on so long as they have this work schedule, also bare in mind we have no clue how much would be released in 5.XX and 6.XX lifetimes but if on par with Stormblood at least welp i do not see it happening beyond 6.0 not without either heavy limitations on the race (very little gear usable) or a change in their work schedule happens and the developers are given more time( goodluck getting the playerbase to agree with longer waits for patches).
I think mostly because 7.0 will have an unbearable amount of clothes for remodeling for a new race.
Even if part of them is just repainting, you still need to adjust them and check that they work without critical issues. Time for some rough math.
We have 9407 armor items, 2981 accessories and 3484 weapons right now according to official lodestone database. It's 15872 in amount. Let's assume that about 20% are repaints (which means that the 3D model is shared) then it's 12697 in rest. The game is 6 years old, 7.0 means another 4 years (2 for 5.0 and 2 for 6.) of new armor items. When we will reach that point, there will be about 27.000 of equipable items already. It's just too much. And this is just clothes without hairstyles (which probably will be limited anyway) and emotes/animations.
And while it's not impossible to bring them for 7.0 if process is smart, the 6.0 looks more reasonable. More than this, I'm afraid that at point of 7.0 the end of life cycle for the game will be very near, so we don't even know how game will go after that.
I do agree that the sooner male viera is added, the better, because there's always new gear coming out that will have to be adjusted. It will pile up over time, so it would be more work for the devs.
I just didn't figure 7.0 would be that far off - it's just a couple of years. I was thinking the cut off point would probably be 8.0 and beyond.
But I guess estimating that male viera will come out at 6.0 at the earliest (if they come out at all) is reasonable.
As said, yes, because the longer it takes, the more models need to be checked and the longer the process of making the new race will take, and that's not even considering emotes like /sit, /dance, that must be checked to make sure they don't end up clipping or bugging. The team seems to be overworked enough without adding 2 expansions worth of content to their backlog
Yeah like... it's not impossible that they will come out in 7.0. Just the chance of it is lower and will drop with every expansion. Though if we assume the schedule where they model just the race at first until let's say 5.4, and then spread clothes modeling in rest ~3 years till 7.0, then it seem to be more logical and not that harsh in terms of deadlines. But I doubt they have such schedule in mind tbh, it has its serious flaws.
Here's my thought, we could very well get Male Viera & Female Hrothgar in 7.0. But, I won't hold my breath about headgear. At least for the Hroths.
Because there is alot of helms and stuff that would need to be completely redesigned & altered for the unique heads, the Viera have a better chance at headgear because they are human-ish faced. But would need to sculpt the gear to have Earholes. Unless they just decide to go AuRa and let the ears clip through.
It might not be SUPER bad...Ive seen a few helms actually look good on AuRa despite the horns clipping.
---Please Dont Lump the whole fandom dude....and Im not just talking about myself here, there are legit some nice people here on the forums, and in game.
Lumping the FFXIV Fandom as Toxic is an insult to the people that arnt toxic. Personally its pretty toxic to just lump everyone over a handful of other people.
---I don't think the HigherUps alone decided this, I think the devs also agree that they probly wont make anymore races because literally the time and money it takes to make them. Pile on all the gear they need to fit. It just doesn't make sense logically, otherwise we could get a worse situation then Genders and no headgear. I know the devs have thought about that without the HigherUps.
---The Hrothgar....arn't QUITE Ronso. They are Called Ronso in the First sure, and they could be considered heavy Referenced sure, but there is only one Face Model & Custom Option that is truly Ronso. I have a hard time calling them Ronso because only 1 face option even GIVES the option of a Horn, which Male Ronso have. But outside of that, they dont...and you can remove the Horn in the ONE face option....which goes against what Ronso's are.
Eh, Ill await for somebody to potentially correct me on all of this.
---I can see your angle here....but at the same time as mentioned above, it would make more sense for them to stop here for making races... As cool as it would be to get Ivalice Moogles, The Bangaa, Lupin, other beast races, The Nou Mou (Im sure I botched that) or even Pixies...the cost AND development plus refitting and redesigning some gear (Cause remember the Bangaa & Lupin & Most Beast Races have unique heads to) it would just take up WAY to many resources to do. Id be behind them if they stopped here
And whats the problem with people coming in a thread to support male Viera and just talk about how they would want to have them? Just like you can tell us that you want something that completely looks way too different from the females, others can have something they want to. It in the end does not change the way the devs might implement them but gives us something to discuss.
I mean if people grow tired of a certain topic in this thread, then either not pump it up by also talking about it or simply try to steer it in another way.
Found some more male viera artwork.

Check them out on twitter!
Since we're sharing fanart again...
Maybe you're making fun of the second picture's fashion, but I don't see anything wrong with the first picture at least? Personally, I think both pictures are fine. Yoshi P had said that male viera would probably look slim, elegant, and handsome. These fit the bill for me.
