You have to remember, the Au'ra WAS their attempt at creating something original lol. Keep in mind the community is greatly divided when it comes to what they want in game, obviously as evidenced by this thread.

During Au'ra's development we saw their concept art as a more beastly, edgy race. Some liked this, other's didn't, they listened to the others and later revealed what we have now.

Obviously this just flips which sides complaining and which isn't. But, personally I think the majority of the outcry at the time was caused from the extreme sexual dimorphism of the new race...

I mean... look at them... she comes up to his waist lol. (one of my personal pet peeves on current Au'ra are the lack of black sclera on females... was really looking forward to that)

I hope to never see them as a beast tribe though. Already kills me that Lamia are a beast tribe... now we'll NEVER get them /cry TT^TT

Did we? I'm pretty sure no one had seen the Au Ra (and Viera) concept art until the second HW Fan Fest, which was when they revealed the final design for the Au Ra. Heck, I'm pretty sure they had the final design planned the moment they put Yugiri into the game (despite technically using a Miqo'te skeleton).

Hmmm, you know you might be right there. Could swear I've heard something about their concept art design not being popular so it was changed to what it is now.

As for Yugiri, that girl was covered head to toe, even her horns were covered and were slightly bouncy to boot lol (lead some to speculate viera ;P) only thing we could see was her tail. With the way gear works they could've done just about anything with her model bar make her male Au'ra size.

I'd be excited to see what kind of city these ffxiv viera would reside in. A tree city sounds nice. Someone else also suggested an underground city which I thought would be cool.

I surely am disappointed that we won't get any new race in Stormblood or at least enhanced character creation options to already existing races. Still, I would love to get Viera over any other race! Since FF12 I always wanted to play Viera in a online MMO. So saaaad >_<

Nothing lost yet. From what I see its still possible for them to add new race in next patch after st release. We just need to continue to support the idea. I'm also disappointed they didn't add anything.

I highly doubt they'd add a new race during a patch cycle. They didn't add a new Job during the 3.X series due to not having the time (adjusting current Jobs) and that will most likely be the excuse they'd use if asked about a new race. Heck, it apparently takes them 6 months or so to make new clothing :I

The devs actively said they aren't doing that. No new jobs, no new races. If we were getting anything like that in 4.0, we would know it by now.

Yeah, I agree it's highly unlikely for a new race to come during a patch cycle. I'm gonna guess 5.0 or 6.0.

5.0 if SE find a way to make sense of why they wouldn't be seen within the Garlean army and 6.0 because we'll most likely be going to completely new lands, where the only known lore of lands of the Far West revolve around the Mamool Ja.

Also, here's hoping 6.0 will try something a little new (potentially being a new starting point/opening. 1-15 zones and the rest being high level zones because you gotta go to Eorzea for X reason. A few changes to the ARR storyline if you start in the new city). 6.0 is very far away and if they do introduce a new race, it'd be a little jarring to make them playable when they'll only appear as NPC's in 6.0 areas.

Viera please. We all miss it

Yea I still wouldnt mind seeing this running around the game. Would make me feel like more of the FF world with different races.

I support Viera as a new race but find it unlikely they will add it anytime during SB. However I find it strange that SE has yet to respond to a thread that's now surpassed 100 pages of responses. It's pretty unprecedented and obviously the demand is there. The cost of making the race would, imo, easily be compensated by the amount of people that permanently, or temporarily, switch to Viera.

Q: Not to bug you, Yoshida. But I'm a big fan of FFXII's Fran. The Viera race was considered for Heavensward but never included and Stormblood marks the second time they've been left out. Should I give up hope?

A: I don't think you should give up hope. I mean we're hoping Final Fantasy XIV will have a very long lifespan. With that being said. Fran and the Viera race have a very high heel and trying to depict that in Final Fantasy XIV is challenging. They won't be able to wear any shoes that exist in Eorzea right now.

This is why we need more high heels! even if they didnt have such an extreme need for a high heel I think people would be happy just to get a viera in general....like me :D easy remedy tho, is just make the basic outfit for the race have a basic high heel shoe, let the glamour community figure out the rest.

I wonder if they could make this work in the future by doing what they did with belts--making the shoes invisible for Viera below a certain level. Instead of displaying ilvl 20 shoes, for example, even when the Viera has them equipped, it would just display default Viera high heels until you reach the level where Square started designing unique shoes for Viera. If they added Viera for 5.0 for example, they could get away with default shoes for all ARR/HW content and just go back and add shoe models to Stormblood content... If they added a few glamour shoes for Viera to help bridge that time where they wouldn't have unique shoe models, I can't imagine people would complain.

So true! We don't need another "weird ears + tail race." We have cats. We have dragons. We don't need another race like that - totally pointless just make a Miqo'te with a small tail and throw on the bunny ears from gold saucer and BAM - you have your "bunny" race. It is too bad they ruined the only "normal" human race in the game - can not get passed Hyur looking like they have a stick up their rear while standing and running (truly awful running animation.) I'd rather they update/fix the "old" races animations than waste dev time on adding a redundant playable race into the game.

I played FFXII. I was wonder where male Vieras. But, now I see your post males!

If Viera in FFXIV. I will play male Viera <3

Just give them more human-like feet and add high heel glamours in the future. All races will want heels anyways.

If it is really not possible to model the characters with high heel feet I would not be mad about normal human-like feet as long as Viera still have distinct features to differ them from other races and give me the "Yes, those are Viera!"-feeling. We need to probably come to an accommodation to the producer if it is so difficult to implement original FF races like Ronso, Viera and others into FF14.

I'm willing to compromise. If giving them normal looking feet would make it easier for the devs to put them in game, I'm okay with that.

Except that's not true at all. People forget that Viera have digitigrade feet, HUGE hands, unique facial structure, and very thick eyebrows on top of their large, fluffy ears. You could probably mistake an Elezen in bunny ears for a Viera if you were like... blind.

Anyways... I would like to see Viera. I would be excited to see any new race to be honest, but the chances of anything other than Viera (or anything remotely different than what we have) are very slim. If Yoshia cites Viera's non-human feet as too difficult for them, can you imagine them trying to do an entirely new non-human body? (continues to dream of a good MMO where I can be a centaur or a mermaid... pls)

I mean, i liked the original design, but if its such a huge issue that it causes them to not add viera, well id rather they just did this because it is better than nothing.
