Yes, actually. A long quest that you would have to be dedicated to do with someone, really wanting to marry them. For the wedding and gear have them different tiers of cost.
Basic would be something cheap, maybe 10k + doing the quest.
Higher tier plans can get up to 1 mil for the outfits, and 2 mil for the mount (or varying on server economy status).
I think housing prices are ridiculous, but not impossible. A large house was something that I /really/ wanted, and in saving up since 2.38 I was able to get a large personal house to myself in 2.4. I did this singlehandedly, no one helped me gather the gil. It was not impossible. If a single person can raise 60 mil over a few months, I think that two people would be able to reasonably be able to raise 2 mil together if they really wanted to get married.

This is also more fair to people on tight RL budgets.

If we really want both people who have tight in-game budgets and tight-RL budgets, I would really really not mind having both options. You can pay for gold in-game for a high amount of gil (like 2-4 mil) or you can pay for it out of game in the cash shop. It would appease both styles of play.

LOL, you cannot "win" at collecting items unless those items are in limited supply that will never be increased. Only in that case could collecting mounts/minions/vanity items be considered "winning" as you'd be depriving someone else absolutely of ever obtaining that item. You have it, they can never get it. *ding* You win.

However, given that there are no limits to the number of minions/mounts/vanity items the Eternal Bond system has, there is no way to "win". All you can say is that you get to collect it... along with everyone else who pays for the items.

Pay to Win, by it's very nature, does not apply to anything that does not get you ahead of other players in any fundamental way. To get ahead of other players in FFXIV, you'd either have to receive better gear, an ability that is better than any attainable in game, or limited supply items that will run out eventually and not be purchasable in the future. None of which are in the Bond system... ergo, it is not Pay to Win.

the trouble is not that it's pay to win or only cosmetic... and a lot of you seems to miss the point about it.
it's about the fact that a part of a feature was take out and put into a cash shop...
for make simple a feature added in the 2.45 will have a premium option in the cash shop....

can you imagine this adapted to any new feature added to the game? because it can happend if we allows this to pass.
forget the eternal bonding and the reward if you pay cash, put it to the basic of the situation. a feature, advertise in a whole, was strips of a part and this part was added behind the cash shop. it can be the hunt or the futur raid or anything it create a precedent.

what forbide them to adapt this idea of the premium option to any new feature added to the game in the futur? today is the eternal bonding, tomorrow... who know what it will be!

And ultimately regardless of what SE does it will be because a majority of players, or at least enough players support it. Maybe if this game wasn't so devoted to appealing to the lowest common denominator the cries of bloody murder over this and the cash shop in general would mean anything, ultimately we are all easily replaced because SE is casting a broad net. The amount of people who are supportive, or at least indifferent about these decisions far outweigh those who are against it I assure you.

You do gardening and chocobo raising as well as coloring with your homes. Not just for cosmetic reasons but also to grow other items needed for various things in the game. Trying to compaire housing to the marriage system doesn't work because the prices don't fluctuate. And also, not everyone is able to scrape together 3+ mil as easily as you think. Mainly because not everyone is able / want to spend hours of their time crafting or grinding dungeons for cash.

I don't think you're quite getting the concept of eternal bonding.
It's not supposed to be a quick "Hey hun let's go get hitched and be back in time for lunch" kinda deal. It's supposed to be a big beautiful event, overblown and overpriced, just like in real life. Well some real life marriages, anyway.
That's the whole thing. A lot of people complaining I don't think have the same opinion on the system as a whole, and in my eyes, these people only want it for the mount, vanity, and perhaps the utility. What you should want it for is the union of you and your beloved betrothed.

This is how I see it as well.
People shouldn't have to run a gauntlet to get married. if you want a free wedding, it's there. If you want a fancy one, the option is there. You and your spouse should take time and DISCUSS which one you want.
It's meant to take time, and a bit of money if you WANT IT. (honestly it wont' be outrageous. I cant see SE making it too expensive.) This isn't "LOVE BOOT CAMP" for peet's sake.
