It's cool that they are looking at introducing missing genders. It will be easier for them to do it now rather than later, so they should probably capitalise on the window of opportunity while it's still available. But at the same time I feel like it isn't a huge priority. Still, I wouldn't complain if they put resources into this as opposed to anything else.
Before you guys get your hopes up, you ought probably to realise that they merely said they will "do their best". And as the current state of FFXIV might suggest, their best isn't usually what one might expect. It might so happen that they need to drop development of the missing genders in need of focussing on more important features.
They have an entire team dedicated to Characters if you are to believe Yoshida's most recent Letter. Which I do.
Still, SE has to probably remodel all the existing gear sets as well as create the models and animate them (hopefully not from scratch), so it could be a massive undertaking. And given that the team devoted to making it could instead be working on modeling new gear as well as new monster models or hairstyles, etc, then it serves to suggest that having the team work to create the missing genders comes at a cost to development of the rest of the game.
My point being that, despite having every intention of implementing the missing races, they might have to drop them (or at least some of them) in favour of other features.
MidgardZolom, I stand with you! this is so very awesome.... (Lynnfoxx from Eorzeapedia)
read your updated letter and saw the dev post...
I am gonna make a harem of catboys for myself! yay for female gamers who finally have their objects of desires!
I'd suggest you go watch the "Making Of" video they have for XIV about equipment.
They make 1 Armor, fit it to the body then use "Alpha Shaving" to make it look different. 1 In Game model ends up being used like a dozen times with slight variations and different textures.
Quote system ate my message up
from this statement I don't think you saw the development system they use for character creation now.... its not like XI where they actually had to make individual armors for every individual body type and race.... in there new development system it showed in the video it took them seconds to change a clothing to fit another model.
also what mid said.
Missing Gender Pride Linkshell: Who wants to make it? ( could have thought up a better name but im tired so yeah...) any takers? any intrested? specially if your gonna reroll~ im so happy tho wave of cat boys ftw! Heres hoping theres a Shota-esque pretty boy face option <3 mew~ bet all the haters and naysayers hearts(or the black void where a heart should be) just skipped 12 beats XD alittle belated but take that Kam! \0/
I had that video in mind while I was replying and therefore said "hopefully not from scratch" because I envisioned them tweaking the armours using their engine the way that video showed. The fact remains that they still have to fit all the gear though, as well as create oh so many models (for the actual races). It's probably easier said than done.
I'm not trying to dash your dreams or anything, I'm just saying, they might have better things to do.
Nice dude. This is probably the coolest comparison I've come across aside from Thundercats. I personally hope SE chose to go this direction.

Genie from Rune Soldier is a good example of an attractive Female Highlander imo
also as far as male miqote. . . there is a new thundercats anime being made and they look better than the old ones (even though i loved being Liono for Halloween when i was a kid) http://www.myremoteradio.com/wordpre...hundercats.jpg
Heh, everyone from Queens Blade would be too.
Ick that is way way beyond what i meant lol
I really like the faces and hairstyles of the Thundercats, but I'd prefer a more slender, agile Miqo'te.
Bruce Lee's body, with Red XIII's hair, pointy ears, and a tail sound about right. :D
Could go with....

If they do this can Se please give an option to change your race, even if its just once, just so we can get rid of all the god damn mithras!
i made liono on DCUO when I played it was funny XD I named snuggle muffin after a similar name from robot chiken.
FYI to ppl saying they got better stuff to do.
SE already have the models made just lacked ppl to put them in.
I hope I can make a male miq'ote look like david bowie whenj he was in the labrynth I loved him in that movie :3
hmmmm even with all the hush about missing gender; i only read it as they will introduce it, not hitting it as it was playable or not :\
I bring you guys Cake in celebration!
http://static.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl...001.png?_v=66n Guys. I'm so all about this right now.
Meh, the only reason i can see males making a female miq'ote right now is to see a cute girl running on screen at all times. If that's true and the male version is anything less than awesome i don't think the female miq'ote population will decline much. Then again, probably PS3 players will chose males more readily. Coupled with a one-time exchange option it should even things out a bit.
About female roegadyn, i too am expecting a "pretty" version, but people shouldn't cling to one word in a single piece of lore. The female roegadyn in it may have been beautiful... but for Roegadyn standard. Also, seeing how every miq'ote, elezen or hume female is perfectly fit in this game the concept of "beauty" may be quite peculiar in Eorzea, seeing how usually uncommon features are those considered beautiful. Plus there will be the female highlander to take the spot of "strong woman". I am really unsure which way the devs will go for roegadyns, as they must be fairly baffled by the request already. They may just give us the chubbiest, most bearded woman they can manage to create.
Hopefully they will release concepts before it's too late and taste the waters for our opinion on them.

To me, Is really pretty.
ya took me a min to notice, so we already know grand companies are starting some content today. Looks like they not waiting for ps3 to release missing gender npcs... so chances are there is good chance playble races @ ps3 lauch. Ima still make a lalafell. ima just find every male miqo'te and drool. :3
Also this thread has reached 100 pages lol and almost 1000 responses, that's pretty intense.
So happy to hear we're actually going to be getting this. I'm going to keep making progress in hopes that we'll have some option to change be it a one-time deal or even $/crysta. I'm sure SE wouldn't mind making a couple extra dollars off people wanting to change their race.

Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn female Roegadyn??? maybe is a Duskwight Elezen but i think she looks diferent
Is that really a female Roegadyn? WE NEED SOME DEV CONFIRMATION RIGHT NOW! just kidding, take your time guys :p
Merlwyb is a Female Roegadyn.
Elezen have shorter necks then Elvaan. Merlwyn is closer to Elvaan then Elezen in the neck department.
Elezen do not have a Brow nose bridge line like Roegadyn do and like Merl has.
Merl has Short Spikey hair that curves her head and points backwards like Roegadyn, no Elezen female has this hair style as all Elezen Hairstyles are braided or down.
Merlwyb follows the Roegadyn Naming Convention (Lots of Y's and duplicated single syllables.)
Elezen use a French style for all names. Roegadyn use a very rough language as their source but I can't identify it.
Yeah i think Merlwyb is a Female Roegadyn looks so pretty :D
Not to mention being in Limsa it would follow the lore for the Sea Wolves. The more and more I look at her the more I'm almost 100% certain she is. Her design even conveys some power and authority without being huge or necessarily muscular, I love it! Even in the big picture for Companies with her on the chocobo, almost certainly a Roegadyn.
