Can turn your old parts into a frame version of the same part, but no idea what you do with the frame.

Looks like there is a new Submersible prototype recipe up.

Seems the nautical map is an entirely new map of sectors.
Guessing it has something to do with 5.0 patch notes:

Bonus values added according to rank.
* Bonus parameters will be added in a future update.
edit: Nevermind, those pieces are used in workshop recipes for upgraded versions of themselves, which might have the bonus stats
@Flanny How do you access the nautical maps menu? Was that an item dropped from voyage that you had to use from inventory to unlock, did a voyage unlock the new menu w/o using item, was it just there?
The new modified parts can be viewed on the marketboard for those of you keeping spreadsheets up with part stats or those just looking to check them out.
Looks like +2 surveillance and +1 retrieval bonus per level beyond 50.
Two of my submarines returned from Sunken Vault, one unlocked the new map and the other one didn't, so it's not guaranteed.
EDIT: even though my second submarine didn't get a message saying it unlocked the new map I'm able to deploy it there anyway.
Sunken Vault -> Sea of ash: South Isle of Zozonan
You cant go to both a new map and the old map simultaneously, distance from base to South Isle is 9 + 12 survey.
Old map is called Deep-Sea site for reference.
Sub went from 50-52 on that trip, gained 2 surv, 3 retrieve, 1 range (CCWY)
CCYC sub went 50-51 and gained 2 surv, 1 ret. (Other CCYC sub to same place did not level [fun])
so possible:
51 - 2 surv, 1 ret
52 - 2 ret, 1 range
Updated the spreadsheet I look after.
New ship parts & values added.
Bonus stats added for ranks 51 & 52.
edit: updated again, lower level capacity may be messed up if they didn't just up capacity across the board, but raised it to 80 at 50+
If you notice any mistakes, please let me know and I'll try to fix them accordingly. This has been an extremely long morning so it's very possible.
Oh good, not just a clear multiplication of the bonus. That going to make the spreadsheet fun.
Didn't notice that. The 51 subs are showing 80 too so it seems to be locked at that. Not sure what the capacity is while leveling below 50 now.
Looks like capacity was upgraded to 80 for rank 50, and all modified pieces have a cost of 20 and a required rank of 50. So every viable build is possible at 50 (every build with enough range to do a voyage)
We need a new item for Prototypes called "Cocobolo Lumber" -- 18 of them to make the new schematics. If you get any of this from a sub please post the info! I'm assuming it's a drop from the new areas, or a new drop from old areas....
Can I ask a stupid question that I'm sure is covered in here, but I've yet to find it explicitly stated? How do you get started? :)
Do I just build the first class of sub and start running missions and then upgrade from there?
Get a full set of shark parts and begin doing missions to increase your sub's level and to discover various sectors. You'll then want to look into what you want to go after, what parts have the stats needed for that and what the level requirements are for those parts. Get them prepped while you're sub is leveling or hold off a bit and see what new info discovered on additional sectors/parts that were just added.
The parts you can put on your sub (or airship) are limited by your sub's/ship's rank. So the ONLY set you can use at the start is the first one. After you get some ranks you can start looking at building different parts and equipping them. Your sub/ship is also limited by the "gear slots" it has, which increase with rank, so even if you have the minimum rank needed to equip a certain part, you might not be able to equip a full set of those parts at first because you won't have enough space, so you'll have to pick and choose which part you want to upgrade first and which can wait.
I have an outdated guide I wrote up back when airships were new that goes through how to equip and level them. Submersibles work pretty much the same way. You can use this as a starting point but keep in mind some of the info is different now (though the basics for getting started haven't changed much which is why I think this still may be useful to you.)
https://astralflamesblog.wordpress.c...#airshipsbuild
First you need a Flight Credit (airship) or Dive Credit (submersible) which you buy from the resident caretaker. I think it's just one for the first ship, maybe two. You take that to your workshop with the lowest level pieces, and assemble/name your craft. You send it out on voyages, where it gets exp to rank up, and unlocks more zones to explore. When you explore certain zones, it unlocks another ship, which takes more flight/dive credits to build.
Another observation about the new pieces, they are all direct upgrades of the previous model. Some or all of the stats are higher, none are lower.
All modified parts are equal in combined Surv/Retr/Spd/Range, at 105, with favor random.
Nautical maps, just providing info so far, I had my sub out at Deep-sea site 7 and the Sunken vault. It doesnt say on my Voyage log which one triggered that nautical map though. I unlocked The Sea of Ashe map, Rank 50 South Isle of Zozonan.
EDIT: Sent my first ship out to the new South Isle of Zozanan and it brought me back Pure Titanium Ore. Ship Surveillance stats are 170 -
The other one brought me back... >.> Earth Crystals. Lame. Surveillance stats on that one are 95 .
After my first voyage to Zozonan it unlocked Wreckage of the Windwalker.
I checked in three subs from DSS7 and none of them triggered the new area. My three subs that went to Sunken Vault triggered it immediately.
Edit: Make that six subs from DSS7 and no new area trigger. I don't think you can get it from DSS7.
Make sure to report Surveillance stats with any item discoveries made. This will help narrow down the Minimum Surveillance Requirements per item and I'd like to see a good documentation of that for theorycrafting this time around.
@Auric, did you find any Abroader Otters post-5.0?
Where does the cocobolo lumber come from?
*edit never mind the question was answered.
In order to exchange to the new framed components, do we have to craft new ones to exchange? Or is there a way that we can take the existing ones off the subs?
I've been looking but can find an answer. How do you run more than 4 airships/subs at the same time? or is 4 at a time the limit?
Each FC is limited to a maximum of 4 airships and or submersibles total out at a given time. If you see people providing info on more, it's because they have access to multiple fcs.
The modified parts (you can view them on the market board) are direct upgrades of the part being modified. Some are bigger upgrades to their original versions than others.
i'm confused - it said the question was answered where coco lumber comes from? what sector? or is from the new map?
also I'm still confused about frames. so how do they work? you hand in a part and get a frame, but is that frame a part that makes up a sub? or do you have make something else from the company craft workshop to use it?
The later.
You trade a ship or sub part for a frame. That frame is not itself a ship/sub part, but a fabrication material. You then use the frame and several other crafting mats to fabricate a new ship/sub part in your workshop. (The new part you make using the frame will have better stats than the initial part you traded in for the frame.)
Discovered pure titanium ore from South Isle of Zozonan. Rating was S, surveillance is base 150, bonus is currently 2 but I'm not sure what it was before leveling up (ship is currently rank 52, I believe it was 50 when deployed, so bonus was likely 0). Also got slabs of hard mudstone, truegold sand, and earth crystals from that location.
We had six subs farming DSS7 doing a trip that took almost exactly 24 hours. Each ship was capable of getting two hits per stop (though the second hit on DSS7 is never better than 60% successful at finding something, grumble.) So that's 42 tries each week. The drop rate is about 1/50 so we're close to what you'd expect. Our ships were CUUC and CUSC builds.

On hitting level 53, my subs gained +1 Speed, +1 Range, and +1 "Guardian Favor" ( Guardian? Eh?). My subs also found a new sector, "The Wreckage of the Windwalker" off of Zozonan.
Subs were all CUYC builds.
Oh just checked and "Pure Titanium Ore" is NOT the same as "Titanium Ore". The "pure" stuff is a new mat needed to make metal that almost certainly will be used in the new sub parts. It take 9 coke per piece too because of course it does.
The bonus so far is:
51: +2 surv +1 ret
52: +2 ret +1 range
53: +1 speed +1 range +1 guardian favor.
(ty Auric, back to editing the spreadsheet. guardian favor = regular favor? o_O)
Yes. New schematic should unlock all the recipes for modified parts that you can see on the market board. That I know of, no one has retrieved the lumber yet and that person was just referring to a guess that it's from a one of the new submersible destinations.
If anyone's got submersibles below 50, could you post what the level and part capacity is?
