I saw a comment a while back that said that FF 14 is a JRPG first and an MMO second. Whether that is the case or not is, I guess, a matter of personal perception. MMO does not mean , and never has been you have to play with others all the time.

All MMO's cater to both single play and group content combined, this is a matter of course for all MMO's in the last twenty years. Story content has always been a solo experience. I mention that, as more than a few MMO's have had to put up a roadblock to stop others overriding one players experience for their own goals.. i.e having the ability to cut off a cutscene for BOTH parties whether or not the other person wanted them to or not.

That is why in FF 14, a player alone has the choice as to whether or not to skip the cutscene, it is not up to another to dictate what they do and dont get to see. You may wish to rush, others prefer their own pace, which is as it should be.

Back in WOW, at the end of the Siege of Orgrimmar, we had our first clear, we were all watching the cutscene at the end when the raid leader abruptly overrode it, stating he was in a hurry. and we could watch it later. The ensuing deafening storm of protests told him just how little they appreciated his actions.

So, in the end, an MMO can and does have a solo as well as a group component.

There are times i feel the same as a arr release player. I still enjoy aspects of the game but it also doesn't feel the same anymore.

You can still have those same things in FFXIV. Group rushes but that one first timer wants to read all the little diary pages in the dungeon. Who is in the right?
The whole "one person wants X but another one wants Y" is inherent to every multiplayer scenario. We could get together and play a physical game and one player might insist on reading the lore texts or maybe someone pushes the others to play faster. This is also in FFXIV. It's also in the MSQ if a group tries to play together and rejoins for dungeons. So that problem exists nonetheless. You could make the cutscenes only skip for the person who skipped it or only if all players of the group pressed skip. Easy to implement.

Pretty much 90% of my friends from that period quit during heavansward or by mid stormblood. Part of the reason i still play is because i still have a couple close friends who play that i play with. And some things i still enjoy doing is also what keeps me playing.

It already has been. Thats one reason Trusts have been implemented. So players can go at their own pace and not be forced to run at 1000 mph.

What about the inverse? Would you be for a way to do the MSQ in a group?

It would be great to have a party sync feature like WoW where you can replay quests with a low level friend.

There will always be "that guy" who says "You dont need to see this so skip it because I dont want to wait for you" Or "The MSQ sucks anyway, you can watch it later in the Inn"

So no thanks. I do MSQ at my own speed and in my own time.

^look I’m not going to argue about whether a fully developed story like 14 belongs in an MMO but more so if you are that against working with other people then why are you playing an MMO, sure “RPG first MMO second” insert random yoshi p quote but if you truly are that against dealing with other people in an MSQ setting then why not just play an actual single player FF game, there is 14 other ones in the mainline

This is one of the big things that irks me about both the way 14 is being developed and the community (yes boomer screams at clouds incoming)

Square makes this game as newbie friendly as possible. Selling it as a true mainline FF game you can play solo, then it causes people to come in who don’t actually like playing MMO’s, they want RPG’s, so the MMO aspect gets watered down and removed in favour of the casual people who came in and want this to act like basically a sandbox mainline FF game while people who want this to be an MMO get left behind

If you want to play a single player mainline FF game go play one. Don’t come into 14 then Complain about the fact that an MMO has MMO systems
