To be frank, from your story it seems like that Monk simply was an idiot.
You did nothing wrong there, except maybe not kicking the Monk after they demonstrated to be a problem on purpose and tried to get you kicked.
If you pass the minimum ilevel requirement with gear for your job and try to do your best it's cool.
Not pulling aggro, or dealing with the aggro, is part of our job description as DPS. As is dodging out of stupid.

Sure, things likely go a lot faster when they're running with their guild, the tank can pull the whole instance and they can just ignore aoes to eke out that additional % of damage because the healer just heals through it while DPSing. But that's running with their guild, the DF is not their guild and when they sign up they have to accept that they're going to be matched with random people who will have random levels of gear and experience with the content. If they're unable to adjust to that they should stop running with random people and just wait for their guild to form a group for the roulettes.

This is a bit like the tanks who will insist on repeatedly trying to pull the whole instance despite the healer and/or DPS not being able to deal with a pull that large and then throw a fit instead of just slowing things down to a manageable level.

Had an ARF run last night that was just... weird.

Healer friend and I (BLM) queue in, a few minutes into the dungeon the other dps asks if anyone has a cat and what they are feeding it. So far so harmless, if a bit odd to ask for cat food advice in a random dungeon.

Then he asks if my friend's cat (as he replied fed his cat dry cat food) had teeth. Uh, what? Then he goes "teeth die when you give cooked food you noob" and "but at least it's better than nothing so gj". Which just came out of nowhere as no one had even mentioned cooked food, besides being unnecessarily rude.

I proceed to call him out on being rude. After some back and forth he tells me to stfu and kill. I question the hypocrisy of starting a conversation and then telling the other party to shut up when they talk back, which only seemed to annoy him more. All this time, I'm fairly easily out-dps'ing him.

Second boss I walk a few steps too far and accidentally facepull the boss. I apologise, only to be met with "chill". What, am I now not allowed to apologise to the tank for accidentally pulling? XD Of course you are, says the tank, and apology accepted. They seemed pretty cool with it.

At the end of the run the dps leaves us with "take good care of your cat".

My friend and I were never able to figure out just what this guy's deal was.

Except in CT, you'd be surprised at how many times people wipe on bosses like the Bone Dragon, Phlegeathon (or however his name is spelled), Angry Mango, Cerberus, and Cloud of Darkness because people don't care to follow the mechanics because they're all "a Raid of 60s without a new player bonus." I'm consistently in groups where those with bonuses do a better job at following mechanics compared to those without.

All caps is unnecessary, but I still find myself having to remind people "4 people to a pad on Atomos, guys" or "Everyone run to your pads now" before Phelg's Ancient Flare. Or "Please get the meteors" on Cloud of Darkness (the most commonly typed phrase).

Once upon a time, I was a little MCH in Haukke Manor, with a GLA tank, some healer who was clearly the GLA's friend, and a random ARC. So, no melee DPS for LB.

As we go along, this GLA is clearly having issues with keeping aggro from me, but I don't really care since we're progressing at a steady pace, nobody's dying except the mobs and nobody says anything anyway. We kill the first boss, get down to the cellar, going through the motions, LB bar fills up.

Yay!

So when the GLA pulled a group of 4 mobs, I blasted them with Big Shot. It was fun!

Except clearly not, since the GLA demands to know why I used LB. I can't remember what answer I gave, since the stupidity of this question baffles my memory even now. Anyway, they started throwing a hissy fit about me, claiming that I "fuck up DPS" as a role or whatever, because apparently I should be psychic and bend to a tank or healer's whims just because.

Long story short, I got kicked just before Lady Amandine, for doing my job, by people who couldn't be bothered to do their jobs. Incidents like these are why I have no sympathy for struggling newbies nowadays. That, and I've played all 3 tanks to 60, so personally, I'm of the opinion that if a tank can't keep aggro from a DPS, it's usually because said tank isn't using their aggro skills to the max. If I, as a tank with an ilvl 200/210 weapon, back in 3.2-3.3, could keep aggro from DPS with ilvl 240 weapons and beyond, in Expert Roulette dungeons, I don't think other tanks get to blame DPS for ripping aggro from them.

Honestly, all I can advise is having a parser running while mindlessly beating a dummy with a 1-button combo and see how much you manage to do.
Then see what kinda numbers some abysmal dps players put out. I think theres no better cure for this "mindset" for feeling awful about kicking people.
You just come to realize that it CANNOT, absolutely CANNOT be a matter of "being bad". Anyone whos GENUINELY trying despite not being really good,
will quite easily do double the damage than these guys managed to do. And for being lazy, theres simply no reason to feel bad.

Instead,we should make some people realize that encouraging laziness is the actual bad thing. :/

You know I can't even disagree with this...

I too wonder sometimes why some of the people I DPS with even play a DPS. Its like dude... if you don't like putting up big numbers, what's the point in playing a DPS job. Go play a healer or something.

Then I get the really good ones (DPS guys), they're competitive and trying to out DPS me (They usually lose) but I'm on the other end going... whoa nice hit man, you nailed that combo. Whoa nice nuke... good job, you lost, but... hell of an effort. And it makes me work harder too. And on top of that, at the end of the day its our combined DPS that decides how smooth the clear was.

Yeah of course I'm on the other end going... yeaaahhh I want to do ALL the DPS, but then I wouldn't be a good DPS if I didn't think that way.

And then you get the ones who don't even bother... and you're just going... man, why are you even playing a DPS, its pointless for someone like you. At least try. If you don't like to DPS then go play something else that you do enjoy or are good at, stop playing something just because it looked kewl.

In my (completely anecdotal) experience, new players in CT screw up often, but fix it. Old players who "know what they're doing" keep making the same mistakes over and over despite trying to tell them what's going wrong.

That guy who dies 5 times to Doom on Angry Mango? There's a good chance he doesn't have a Bonus. :P

SMN main. Created a new character to tank. Not a sprout.

Aetherochemical pops for Roulette.

Big pulls. Going fine. Bard goes "Do you know how to group properly?"

Grouping was fine, except maybe one. I say "Sorry, I'll group them up better for you"

Pull before the 1st boss, Bard goes ahead of me. Pulls them all. No matter. OP, OP, ta-da. They quickly type "pull TO THE caster"... no shit.

We get to the nodes. 1st phase of adds pouring in. Immediately target the healer, & they freak. OP, OP, flash, ta-da. Node down. Healer starts explaining to me what the green, yellow, and red markers next to enemy's name are. Mind you, the healer ran away, not towards me. Also adds "LOL I have a level 60 Warrior too" Bard and healer now tag teaming the rest of the way.

Final boss. One of them mark Igeyorhm with "1." Thanks.

Boss dies. I exit with one comm. I check, and, yep, they were both from the same server. Blacklisted.

In Great Glubal Library, two people are new to the run. Tank is very, very impatient and doesn't explain junk, so I do instead. Eventually we're having trouble with the last boss and he throws a fit and says "please kick me I just wanted singing clusters :(", despite the fact that the two newcomers are getting used to the dungeon. We eventually votekick him, new tank comes in and what do you know, we ace the last boss.

Zefiris, if you're reading this, you're a bad tank and a worse leader in dungeons. Be patient with new people you nincompoop.

Unwisely, I chose to queue as DRK for level 60 roulette. I have ilvl 260 gear and 270 accessories for that job, but only an ilvl 235 Padjali sword for it because I'm lazy and farming PotD makes me vomit blood.

Anyway, DF decided to put me to the test, and dropped me into Xelphatol with a NIN using the ilvl 255 Kinna daggers, and a BLM with an ilvl 275 anima weapon. The WHM was completely new to the dungeon.

The first pull was a little rough, but I managed to regain control of it with liberal use of Abyssal Drain, which is the best skill in the world (<3 <3 <3), and the BLM was kind enough to use Quelling Strikes after I pointed out the 40 ilvl difference in our weapons.

The NIN could've used Shadewalker or Smokescreen at any time to help out, but didn't. Okay, whatever, fine. I had to push myself to the limit with juggling MP management while spamming Dark Arts aggro combos on bosses, but I did it and kept aggro while everything was being killed. We cleared in roughly 20 minutes or less, an average run with a new, relatively-undergeared WHM, and I somehow got 2 comms out of it. WHM got my comm for admitting they were new, sorry I couldn't give much advice, but I honestly hadn't set foot in Xelphatol since... January.

So if I can keep aggro from a BLM with a weapon that's 40 ilvls above mine, I can't find it within me to have much sympathy for other tanks who can't.

Wiped to the first boss in Sastasha hard 5 times. No one was stunning the boss and healer/MNK were apparently friends so they spent more time typing "lol inside jokes" than playing. Group got vote abandoned after the 6th time. :(

15 minutes ago, Aetherochemical again.

This time I'm on my SMN. Tank starts by only pulling two adds in the beginning. Then just one. Great start.

1st boss, tank won't soak any turret damage. Healer dies. I rez. Fight over & tank says "Wow, I was scared there."

2nd boss. Dragoon and healer both die. I rez the healer.

Last boss, first phase, tank dies. Dragoon dies. I rez the tank while holding aggro as a SMN.

Last boss, final phase, only tank and I get in the orbs. Dragoon dies. Healer dies. I rez the healer.

Dragoon dies again. I rez. We finish. Tank thanks us all for a great recovery, and we leave.

Zero comms.

Lvl 60 roulette with a friend last night @ GGL Hard as an AST and BLM respectively. The other dps was a SMN who... only throw tridisaster, occasional ruin 3s and maybe quickflare or fester... absolutely no bane at all. Quick check on him show him to have everything at lvl 60... so the 2 possibilities are that either this guy is messing around or he absolutely have no idea how a smn work.... When I request that he cast his 3 dots manually, he literally kept casting them on a loop on 1 target only, still no bane.

Was just in a World of Darkness run as AST to get the final Aether Oil I need for my final relic. After setting up buffs for the party, I see our NIN run in and die faster than a DRG. They respawned before I could get a raise on them and thought nothing of it at the time. When we got to the first boss, however, they did it again. Pulling and dying, then respawning outside the fight to avoid doing anything. I asked them to not do that and I could raise them, but they said nothing. I checked their gear and saw that they had i270 melded raid gear, so they knew exactly what they were doing. They did this for every fight, and I tried keeping them alive through all of it. After calling them out on it, after beating the Cloud of Darkness, they finally say, "Do the Data Center a favor and hang up your AST globe. Thanks." and leave before the chest even opened up.

Yeeeaaah.... i woulda booted the last two guys.

What is it with this?? Especially in 24 man content...like that one dps would even matter.

What is this carebear attitude...I also usually tell them to kick me then. Although I do it way earlier than just before the last boss.

Did you call out in party chat what they were doing? I've noticed many people don't pay attention to others and hence don't understand why you're trying to kick someone. I usually call out their behaviour in chat before even trying to kick, to make sure others notice it and also to give the person a chance to correct their behaviour. Then if the person keeps doing stupid things, I initiate the kick and others are more likely to join after seeing it for themselves.

I haven't heard this kind of BS in a long time, but it happened again.
Someone called me an elitist for expecting Healers to DPS (and various other stuff).


I called them out during a dungeon because they were literally standing around and doing nothing for extended periods of time.
They told me it was only their second time in there (and that being their reason for not DPSing), but they didn't even attempt to DPS. I don't mind one or two wipes if it can help improving their gameplay. But their attitude gave me the impression that they never had the intention to DPS in the first place. And yes, they were overgeared for that dungeon.
Next time I will just spam Ruin I because I "don't take the game as serious as others" and "just wanna have fun". Improving oneself, after all, is not fun at all! Dragging down others is, though!

Also, another gem:
Chrysalis, Trial Roulette. A ton of people between 50 and 60, bonus message.
I'm someone who watches guides if the content is old and generally expect others to do the same. If they don't, I expect them to at least be polite and tell the party that they are new and need some explanations.
Complete and utter silence. Level 52 tank (new to the duty) pulls.
Wipe because they don't know how to eat dem balls.
I ask the party: "Could you please speak up and tell us that you are new and need some explanations? Don't worry, no one will kill you for asking."
Again, silence. Again, the same tank pulls the boss.
I try to get at least a few things in (save LB for me, the DRG; eat orbs red > black > red; etc), but people still don't really know what to do so I eat multiple orbs of the same color so that they do not reach the boss. I hug the floor.
Another person dies and the healer decides to use LB3 with 2 people down.
We manage to kill the rift shortly before the big meteor obliterates us and finish the boss. I get a snarky comment about how much I must like hugging the floor.

Is dragging down others and not wanting to improve yourself really fun to you guys?
Is your fun more important than the fun of other people, the fun that you are trying to ruin with all your might?

If I am an elitist for not tolerating your behavior, then so be it.

For those that need even more:

Today in PotD, I was being called names because I told someone they should adjust to the party.
Long story short, they were the only one looking for Accursed Hoards while the rest of us was waiting at the Cairn of Passage.
"Please don't look for chests, the rest of us clearly wants to get this done as quick as possible"
"I am not looking for chests, I am looking for the hoards you twit!"
They ignored me while I was pointing out that both are just a waste of time if the majority wants to speedrun.
According to them, I should use PF if I wanted to speedrun.
(sounds like a certain someone from these forums tbh)

I proceeded to Vote Dismiss them but the other two randoms rejected it, asking us to "get along" since we were at floor 96.
Apparently they didn't know that three people are more than enough for the Final Boss (especially since we got three pomanders of resolution), but I decided to not remind them.
Eventually, we finished the floors and I had to tolerate yet another dimwit who wasn't aware that concepts like majority rule are a thing.

Why can't people be civil these days?

I just got out of the guildhest All's Well that Ends in the Well. The one with Braxio of the Well.

Our healer decided to sprint and run into everything, which I mean, I guess that's fine. He wouldn't let me get the hate off of him, but if that's how he wants to do it, so be it.

When it comes to the boss, I keep trying to grab the enemies off of him, but he insists on taking hate. So whatever, he can have it. Then I stop getting heals, and see this in my party log:

you want me die then you will do too

He made one mistake though... I was a goddamn warrior. I warrior'd my way through that, and didn't die.

Seriously man, it's a little 2 minute guildhest. No one needs to speedrun it, and if you decide you want to be offtank, at least stick to it. :P

Farming Dun Scaith for DRG pieces since I got her to 60 this morning. She's 5 ilvls short of making it in there, so I'm running on AST and hoping people will be nice and pass on the pieces I want. ;_;

Anyways, last run, MT kept dying; not sure if from no heals or no cooldowns, since they weren't out alliance's tank. Our tank stepped up. And god, I wish they hadn't. They tried, but they only had 5,000 more health than me (they were a DRK), a Padjali weapon, and a 215 body piece. One hit from Diabolos Hollow took out 80% of their health. Not even a crit Essential could have saved them.

While Diabolos was doing his Double Edge towards the end, none of the tanks had him so he was just running around smacking people. A bard from another alliance got marked, and ran to me while I was trying to heal my co-healer. That attack hit me for 70k. WITH A CRIT SHIELD AND A BOLE ON ME. I squeaked a little there. That is over three times my health pool.

And worst yet, not a single DRG piece dropped. ;_;
I'm only after the head piece, body, and legs. D:


EDIT: Well, just got out of my seventh Dun run today (I obviously hate myself). My co-healer was great; just they kept having disconnecting issues. ;_; Their husband was in our group too, and during Hollow, both dc'd, so I was doing everything I could to keep everyone up. Entire alliance was ranged except for the tank, who REALLY wanted to MT. The entire run the tanks were arguing with each other in alliance chat about who was MT and who wasn't. It was getting very annoying.

The tanks were as follows: DRK / DRK / WAR. Our tank was a DRK. For the first Diabolos Hollow pull, the second DRK was MT. Well, they decided to also eat the tank meteor. Twice. While also tanking Diabolos. No one went into the center door, so the Dahak showed up outside. I'm trying to keep people alive, since my co-healer was dc-ing again, and the Dahak comes after me, since my HoTs triggered it. Second DRK is complaining about MT having to eat the tank meteor, and I know that our tank was too busy fighting with the other two over who got to tank Diabolos. The WAR was also fighting, so not eating tank meteor. At one point, our tank was dead. I raised him, and he never accepted it. When the second DRK started complaining about the tank meteor for the third time, I flat-out said "Our tank was dead, and wouldn't accept my raise."

Second pull, we managed to kill him, but it was messy. Co-healer and her husband both disconnected, and kept coming back. We eventually got LB3, which they used. But shortly after, everyone was dead again. At the end, the DRG body piece dropped. Now, I'd asked in the beginning if I could have that piece if it dropped, and people said they didn't have an issue with it. Well, the BLM that I raised more than I should have been raising (they died close to 10 times throughout the raid), rolled against me for it, and, of course, won.

I just... I am just so tired now. ;_;
I really wish I was at ilvl to go in on DRG myself; one Diabolic piece would probably put me right at 235. Guess I'll have to just try and get tokens from Creator Normal for placeholder gear... just sucks that we can't turn them in for GC seals yet when we're done, and I already have so many other Creator Normal pieces clogging up my retainers. ;_;

(No, I can't get any lore gear at the moment since I spent all my lore on umbrite for my next anima... I really wanted to do the PLD one. ;_; )

I have a friend who has been going for the Sephi Bird for the longest time. As a matter of fact, since we are on a raid group and sometimes we are bored we just group up to help him out on it.
His luck is just astonishing. We had helped him through at least 30 runs, and it has dropped about 3 times, but he has dared to lose it every single time. He has now at least 87 tokens.

Just yesterday we got one drop at the 5th run and he rolled a 21, while a pug rolled a 32...

I am more pissed at his luck with RNG than he himself!!

Haha. Nah, because my total HP pool would be less than 17k. Instead I'm trying to get 2 more shafts and 2 more cranks for the Prototype Alexandrian stuff for now. My skill speed is going to be through the roof though. ;_; I made a gear set on Ariyala, and if I can get the Diabolic head, body, and legs, and pair them with Shire gloves, belt, and shoes, with a Proto necklace, an Alexandrian ring, and Shire accessories, I should have about 650 Skill Speed, which is what I read was ideal for DRG. Will definitely need some Det melds though. (At least I have 3 stacks of Brass Spoils for that! XD)

So I'm running Creator Normal for now. Btw, I love it when tanks eat Punishing Heat with no cool downs and then freak out about almost dying. Just pop a cooldown. .-. I understand you're awesome in your Savage BiS gear, and that this isn't A12S, but A12N still kinda hurts. So just use a cooldown. So that your healers can DPS a little more.

When I'm the tank and I'm explaining boss mechanics to a new, undergeared, struggling healer in Leveling Roulette, I could not possibly care less about you trying to annoy me into pulling faster. I seriously don't understand WARs that want to MT, and then stay in Defiance the entire time. Especially when the other 2 tanks are DRKs, which benefit FAR more from MT than

I keep rolling 80s and 90s and I am always out-rolled by one person rolling a 97 or higher. FML.
If I can get the 250 body on my DRG, I will be able to get into Dun to roll need on DRG gear. Just hopefully they won't mind my two piece of gear that are from the Vault. :v
Still need 8 more tokens for the Shire weapon, too... Sophia should do for now though. If Zurvan wasn't so salty, I'd do 10 runs for the spear, but ugh. No. I don't need any more salt today.

I love you dearly but please for the love of Moogles, do not cast regen while I'm pulling. You aren't helping me, in fact you are actually sabotaging my ability as tank to gain and maintain aggro. If I die during a pull that's on me, not because you didn't regen.

I didn't know that people actually mistreat DRG's until I did a trail roulette and died at the end due to lack of heals. I say it's not fun being on the ground and the healer says "says you" with an attitude. Well maybe if you worked a little more on healing and less on trying to play DPS. I wouldn't be dead in the first place. Only so much one can do when it comes to unavoidable damage.

On a Sohm Al HM run a while back, I got teamed up with a WHM who was constantly throwing up Medica II before every pull and generally making the tank's life a lot harder than it needed to be. I asked him to stop putting up regens pre-pull. He responded "I'm not using regen I'm using medica II."

I will forever remain baffled by tanks who do this. Like, Dark Mind has literally no other purpose. You're not super legit amazing for eating Punishing Heat without it. You're an idiot who just made the run slightly longer and far more stressful because now your healers have to deal with damage you shouldn't be taking. At least Warriors have an excuse to blow CDs for stacks, but even then, you can time it properly and get your stacks plus the mitigation.

It happened awhile ago, but I remembered I captured a video of it happening and decided to gif it. I already posted it on a ping thread, but... some tears were had and I'm sure there are a few of you out there who have experienced this.

Basically, the server ate my Sharpcast buff and I did not appreciate that (the pause between Thunder and Fire III was the realisation of what happened... or rather, what didn't).

Had a couple tanks that completely failed to put any cooldowns up for Triple Spark on the Chrysalis, but one was apparently clever enough to moan about someone else using LB3 pre tear. And, as usual, they dive in with blight debuff for full duration. We still cleared, but the amount of stones coming from glass houses on these roulettes..

It got so bad when PotD healers started running 60 dungeons that I had to make a macro for it:
/statusoff "Regen"
/statusoff "Aspected Benefic"
/statusoff "Aspected Helios"
/statusoff "Whispering Dawn"
/statusoff "Medica II"

In keeping with the spirit of the thread - just did Sohm Al HM as PLD, with MNK, MNK and a "healz onry" WHM. Took 43 minutes. I couldn't pull more than one group at a time, since no one could/would AoE.
